Who knew that we'd talk about Six Days in Fallujah for two weeks in a row some 12 years after the original iteration of the contentious game was cancelled. Yet, it's all our sphere wants to talk about, as the FPS revival of Six Days is drawing the ire of predictable industry-types. The question, though, is simple: When does criticism of a game stop being about the game itself, and start being about the critic? This is a deep subject, so naturally, we dive right in. Plus: The DualSense class action lawsuit is on, Avengers is getting its PS5 update very soon, Legends of Mana, Ninja Gaiden, and even Xbox-exclusive Stubbs the Zombie are all PS4-bound, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Does G4's revival have any prayer of succeeding? Following the recent Nintendo Direct, are we hankering for a State of Play? Does Project Triangle Strategy tickle Colin's SRPG itch? Is Chris in action figure form as eldritch as it sounds?

Note: The video version will be up later today.

So happy this posted. Got a few hours in a ladder to listen. I paint houses BTW.

The bus full of nuns! What a throwback. Man, I bought a PS TV from Best Buy for 20 bucks. I picked it up for the sake of owning a random piece of PS tech. Every now and then I go check the eBay prices lol

"Why is everyone's problem with Six Days in Fallujah?"

IslanderButNotLong

As a Canadian I did not enjoy the sarcasm in Chris’ voice regarding Crave lol Crave is actually a great streaming service that has loads of content new and old! If Chris was lucky enough to be a Canadian I am sure he would be subscribed ;)

Timothy Martin

What is the problem with 6 days in Fallujah? None. A game like this only serves as a litmus test on your political leanings. The reality is that since a significantly lower percentage of the population in America had any significant direct contact with the Iraq war than previous major conflicts people believe certain prevailing inaccuracies to be true. Commonly, you hear terms like "war crimes" thrown around by individuals who don't actually understand what constitutes a "war crime", this is generally not disingenuous but rather a complete misread of situations based on lack of firsthand experience.

Phil Walker

I think Bungie once tried some publishing or self publishing help thing called Bungie Aero or something around 10 years ago. I remember this top down steam punk battleship game

The weather here in Florida is beautiful!

You're wrong buddy, I live in Montreal and Crave is the worst streaming service I have ever used. Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ all stream their content at 2160p, Bell advertises that they have 1080p content when most of the HBO and movies on Crave BARELY streams their content in 720p with no HDR and terrible video compression. Bell has and will always be a terrible company. I literally tried their free week trial a few months ago and it was a horrible experience

Really enjoyed the conversation about Six Days in Fallujah in this episode and agree with many that the game will be nowhere near as interesting as all the controversy makes it out to be.

Christopher Tice

I’d love to see a Parasite Eve remake. The FF7 remake was incredible and makes me excited to see what Square can do other ps1 titles.

Where is the video version of this podcast?

Owen J Olson

Aren't souls games specifically not cheap? It's about learning the level and plodding along? With precise hit boxes and very strict animations/rules you can always react to what's about to happen if you haven't started an action you can't get out of.

Asique Alam

Did I hear this right? Colin's company will be porting games of some sort. Now I don't know what that means but here's to them porting somethings to Vita and lilymo single-handedly resurrecting the power of the Vita Land! We die, we Live again, shiny and chrome to Valhalla.

Michael Thew

I never understood why multiplayer in games all of a sudden won’t let you be on the other side of the war. World at war never did that. Nut up and if you can’t, don’t buy it. If it’s not your taste, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist

Jake Z

You guys are right about the woke left and the state of political discourse, but the best thing to do is simply ignore these people. How can people have opinions about a game that's not even out yet? It's narcissism on another level. The idea that Six Days in Fallujah is political is trivially true, especially from a critical theory perspective. If it's not explicitly, didactically against the Iraq War, then it implicitly endorses the "status quo" support for it. The logical conclusion of this line of argument is that even the Mario games are political because they implicitly support existing power structures by not condemning them. It's the whole anti-racist thing. If the goal of Six Days in Fallujah is to show the horrors of war, as many films have done, then it's not necessarily political in any meaningful sense of the term. And really the unrelentingly stupid battle over what games are political is a proxy war for arguing about whether they're partisan.

Did you mean why do people chew with their mouth open.....

Anonymous

Line of the show "I'm so tired that if I close my eyes for an extended period of time I would pass away probably." God Bless Chris 😗

Michael Thew

Lol how can you ignore them, they demand things like unconscious bias training my buddy needs to take in his tech job or they keep his raises and promotions from him or my daughter or son who get shutdown by teachers for having right leaning ( fiscal wise) views and get punished for not being little lemmings

Skyward Sword was actually an awesome Zelda game. It was the motion controls that people had issues with, and that led to its bad reputation. If you never played it dont dismiss it out right, give it a chance.

JP Morris

I’m so jealous of these folks from Kotaku and Polygon. Seems like they have a pretty easy going life, where getting offended by a video game is their biggest worry lol

Bogey Zero

Colin I think you should reach out to Liana Ruppert. A writer for Game informer. She was on Twitter defending this game because of what she heard from the devs privately plus she’s also a veteran. She has since changed stances on the subject since the devs came out and said they’re not trying to be political. So she would probably be a good person to hear from regarding the problem people have with this game. She’s also been attacked by Jason Schreier for daring to bring a different perspective to the whole crunch thing at CD project Red. He sent a mob after her and I think you guys would have a good conversation.

Michael Limauro

Xbox is definitely handling backwards compat better than Sony. Very interested in trying the dead space games with Callisto Protocol announced, but don’t want to have to buy a series x/s just to play them. Can only play DS 3 through PS now smh whereas Dead Space runs at 4k on series x!

Jake Z

I like Liana, but what is the conversation to be had here? Is it really interesting to hear from people who think art can't be made about certain subjects? What could they possibly say that would be persuasive? The game isn't out, so the conversation can't possibly be about the more interesting question: Did the game tackle the subject well?

Brandon Soto

Super Mario 3D World is an incredibly good game. I know you don’t play your Switch, but I highly recommend it.

Anonymous

Some very passionate thoughts today lads. Glad you are discussing it. Spot on with your views. How can we learn if we dont listen to both sides.

Brandon Soto

6 Days will probably get review-bombed due to not being that good, as well as the fake-woke people hating it just because. Lose-lose situation.

Wayde

Ys9 is way better then 8 collin

Jared Ketner

As someone who loves Ninja gaiden black and 2 I can say that the difficulty is a bit cheaper than the souls series. The camera causes issues and they have more hidden enemies and hordes of enemies that artificially increase the difficulty. And while this may come off as the superiority of souls fans you were referencing, I truly liked both games and wanted to share my difference in opinion.

Your Boi Nicky V

Funny thing is, if you mistook Rami for an Iraqi, he'd probably call you an ignorant racist. But when it suits his desire to play the victim, he'll treat them as being the same thing. Identity politics are the absolute worst, thank you for for being one of the few voices of reason in the industry Colin. We used to be told to treat everyone equally and not to make assumptions based on race or sex. Now these idiots try to explain everyone's circumstances and behaviour through gender, race and sexual orientation.

Dylan Neves

From what I've seen, Octopath was reviewed really well everywhere: Metacritic, Steam, etc. Perhaps you're confusing it for Bravely Default? Also, 3D World + Bowser's Fury (truly open world 3d mario!) is fantastic as Dustin says (3DW was on Wii U). And yeah, I feel after such a long silence from Nintendo, my expectations were realistic. I just wanted Zelda re-releases for the 35th; there's only 5 of 19 Zelda games on Switch, one of the best selling Nintendo consoles ever, yet Wii U has a fuck ton. It can't be that hard to give us old ports!! I know they'll probably show them off later in the year, like BOTW2, but this direct was so dry elsewhere too! 1.5 years to make ports for the 35th; nope, sorry! And we got just Skyward Sword HD... Button controls is great, but man give me OoT, MM, WWHD and TPHD without needing to bring out my life support of a Wii U!! No Mario, Zelda, MK9, anything! We already have a Switch-exclusive Splatoon on Switch! They really can't read the room it feels like. I know Covid hit them hard in Japan, but adaptation can't be so difficult that they have nothing of real importance to show in this amount of time. I think the last AAA exclusive they came out with was Animal Crossing a year ago, but I may be wrong. I feel like we were all let down one way or another, and we have every right to be. Get it together Nintendo :'(

Oliver Johnson

Colin, if you like YouTooz, they make a cool little Mega Man toy too if you wanted it to go along with your figurine of your son

Calcifer

Guys, Just want to say the editing is on point. I love the video version, but it’s the podcast is a smoother experience over all. I’ve been switching between the two and it seems like they’re a little different. Am I crazy? Best, Jose

Josh Lucas

I guess you guys both forgot that Spider-Man was already announced to be a PlayStation exclusive character for Avengers lol. It was announced before the game came out and you guys talked about it a decent amount :P He hasn’t been released yet though

Reuben Barrett

I completely agree with the complexity of The Division 2. I've played it off and on since launch and all the intricate details are confusing as hell. I still enjoy it but there's a whole bunch that goes over my head, and that I well just cant be arsed trying to figure out.

Oliver Johnson

I loved everything you guys said during the Six Days conversation. I was reading what people were saying on Twitter and I just felt like the moment in Big Lebowski “what the fuck does anything have to do with Vietnam?!”

Jorge Sosa

I totally agree. From what I recall it placed quite a bit of emphasis on the overworld that previous games didn't. Plus the ancient cistern temple being based off of a short story about Buddha is pretty cool. Looking forward to play it again with Revengence controls.

Forrest Hunter

No mention of Parasite Eve? As a fellow New Englander, I’m offended ;-)

Cannonball_Jones

The Batman Begins game actually wasn't too bad for its time!

Nygile Oliver

I'm new here and wanted to send in a message about the Fallujah topic, where would I go?

LastStandMedia

I will be playing it soon, as we're doing Super Mario Galaxy in the coming months on KnockBack.

LastStandMedia

I've heard plenty of divisive commentary about Octopath. Can't deny its 83 on Meta, though.

LastStandMedia

We put up open threads each week for the main show, and some episodes of +. The Fallujah episode will not have solicited questions, BUT you can write into the next episode if you have further you want to say.

Travis B

I need either a chrono trigger port from ds, or a remaster/remake. Do it for me and Dag!

Samuel Zamora

The Sega Genesis game Captain America & The Avengers was my shit! I exclusively played as Iron Man & Hawkeye. That intro is one of my favorite gaming moments.

Evan Erickson

Not a bad read https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2021/02/19/us-military-veteran-six-days-in-fallujah/

Deshawn Hornback

I’m not going to lie it has started to get on my nerves every single time Colin says “Why do we have to reduce things to the color of our skin?” Because society does that. There’s a billion stats showing people of color are treated differently and I understand people want to just act like it doesn’t exist because “you” don’t think that way. It’s a reality non poc people just will not understand and trying to act like we can just wish it away comes off extremely ignorant. POC don’t get that luxury of acting like their skin color doesn’t matter because nobody else does.

Michael Thew

Billion stats huh, just cause your a piece of shit in your life and feel you need to apologize for what you are isn’t a race or everybody thing. It’s a you thing, so cool story bro.

Deshawn Hornback

It’s not about what you think though Colin. You can be completely open and see everyone as human. It’s what society as a whole acts like towards people of color. I understand you don’t have the underlying feelings towards anyone of color but there’s a lot of history behind that and I know you know about it. POC are treated completely different based on that skin tone whether it’s being more or less likely to get a job or get pulled over etc. You get to choose to not be apart of it. POC don’t. It as simple as that. Saying to just ignore it comes off as extremely disrespectful and privileged. (Also me saying you come off as privileged does not mean you haven’t had to work for things. Just means you get to walk around not thinking about color. Others don’t.)

Michael Thew

So in your eyes, you’ll forever see people as a color and that’s all you’ll see. I see you and people like you as the problem. You have no solutions, just pathetic misplaced anger. I feel bad for you and how little growth as a human being you show.
