As we delve back into the endless mailbag this week, we're confronted with a question that's bound to roil PlayStation's most hardcore audience: Is PlayStation 2 overrated? Our answers may surprise you! Plus: Just how promising is Twitch's future? Why did EA and BioWare opt to abandon Mass Effect: Andromeda while trying to resuscitate Anthem at the same time? Should a PSVR-interested listener just wait for PSVR2 at this point? Does online gaming bring out the worst in people? Should we rethink difficulty settings and how they work? What's the absolute worst game we still kinda like and have nostalgia for? All of that (and much more) on the other side of the play button.

Hey Colin, I picked up on when you said you're depressed on the last episode of Sacred Symbols. The only advice I can give is hang in there man. I've been there before and it seems like you have a very good family structure who will be there for you! Also you're an amazing talent at what you do as far as podcasting goes. In any case, keep up the great work, and as a fan I appreciate the joy you give us each and every week.

You sons of bitch, it’s Sacred Symbols + time! 🙌🏻

PS2 could also play PS1 games

Hose A Contra Razz

yes, remove the DVD and its under 100 million in sales

Michael Thew

Ps2 was a great generation, you had mgs 2-3, all the EA big sports games, the devil may cry games, all the GTA games, FFX, God of War, Need for Speed Underground, Max Paine 2, all the dynasty warriors games and RE4 just off the top of my head.

Timothy Bryant

What if SONY and Microsoft are waiting for these stimulus checks to be released to people before they announce preorders?? Or at least that’s part of the reasoning?

Richard Duflo

On the topic of neighbor fights. My backyard wall is right up against a Taco Bell. Like, the Taco Bell sign looms over my wall. Anyway, the drive through is right there and I hear people fighting in that drive through all the time. I had no idea drive through fights were this common. I live in a really nice area, so it’s not that. People just get real heated over tacos, I guess

Jack Doheny

i love the ps2 but gamecube and xbox had better exclusives in my opinion. different story now though ps3 is my favourite playstation so far :)

"take him to the.. To the.. De-Gooser! I don't know..." had me fucking rolling. 🤣

Listening to Colin get octavely angry about Altered Beast, after almost a decade of following him, never gets old. 😂

Playstation 1 is defined my favorite. There's just something mysterious and mystical about their games. Most of them have aged badly but I still look fondly at my old fat PS1. One of the worst games I genuinely enjoy is Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City for SNES. I don't know how that thing even came to be but it's so fun to kill monsters by throwing elementally imbued basket balls.

The competitive gaming one is funny. Cause I love the toxic people cause they provide cheap free entertainment. I laugh at people who threaten to kill me or fuck my mom cause it’s like man you ain’t gonna do shit. That being said I don’t like playing with randoms on my team much anymore. Cause if I’m playing bad I don’t want to waste their time and if their bad I don’t want to attack them for it or cause a argument.

Craig Mcguire

The PS2 was the first console I purchased with my own hard earned money, good times.

There’s No I in LLC

If someone plans on getting VR get Sparc!! Add jbn2008!!

Jon Barnett

Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Metal Gear Solid, SOCOM, the list goes on and on.

Bryan Lozano

Nah man ps2 has to be the best by far. Then again this is coming from someone born in 98 and grew up with the ps2. I just got too much nostalgia for many games during that time like the sly cooper trilogy, jack and daxter, all the gta, tony hawk games, god of war, wwe games, the spider-man games, def jam, nba street, dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi series, need for speed, and you can’t forget the most unappreciated crash game twinsanity! Come on MAN those are some great games I grew up with!! But seriously the ps2, xbox, gamecube gen I believe is underrated for how people seem to love the games that came out during that time. Anyways thanks for the great content guys.

NeO JD

Those 2 relationship write ins back to back though. 😅

Brandon Soto

If GameCube played DVDs and didn’t have small discs, it would be a whole didn’t story. Was overall a better console, but PS2 was also very good. Great exclusives all around with PS1 backwards compatability. Would’ve been cool to see GameCube with an N64 cartridge add-on.

Scott MacLure

Unexpected topic for me anyway. Can't wait to listen!

Wayde

No way the ps2 was over rated. Deepest game library ever

Hey Colin just wanted to give some feedback that I really enjoy the mail bag sacred symbol plus episodes and wanted to let you know my SS+ Top tier list which goes, Special News Episodes> Mail Bags> Interviews/Special guests> Spoiler casts.

Yes...

Bloodborne is my game of the generation. It was my first "souls" game, and singlehandedly got me into the genre. I've done no death runs of them, and tried my hand at speed running (even though I suck at it. 😂) The Demon's Souls and Elden Ring hype are through the roof!

Jordan Falduto

I didn't realize you played TimeSpinner!! SUCH a great and underrated gem. It definitely needs more attention... and a sequel.

Kevin Sullivan

I found out last year that my property line ends about two feet behind the fence between my yard and my neighbor's yard. The fence was there when I bought the house. They wanted to cut down a tree and found out that it was actually on my property despite being on their side of the fence. No issues came of it, but it was a logistical annoyance.

Matthew Cooper

I remember CoD: World at War on veteran. Totally nuts. I did CoD 4 on veteran, but when I tried WoW, nope, sticking to hardened..

Jeremy Miller

Ah man Please get Brian from PSVR Without Parole on the show for a Sacred Symbols+ Episode.

Kenneth Oms

Mate, I’ll talk about MMORPGs and how much they suck now free of charge. It will be one episode long.

LastStandMedia

Hey, thanks! I don't know what I said, but I'm doing way better the last few months... Thanks again. <3

LastStandMedia

The thing is, I feel like every generation is pretty great. So then you have to figure out the pantheon, as it were.

LastStandMedia

The PSone is pretty rad, no doubt. Do you know that the art in Chaos in the Windy City was done, in part, by Amy Hennig? True story.

LastStandMedia

I suppose it depends on the type of person you are. I personally would get annoyed by that.

LastStandMedia

Yeah man! I played it over the holiday season, 2018 into 2019. Laid in bed on my Vita for a few days, as I recall. Absolutely adored it.

So, you can do way more on a psvr than just play games. You could pick one up from Gamestop for $150. You can play any app in your ps4 - it won't be in vr, but you will have a big screen. The biggest media selling point however is you can watch 3D Blu-rays in your vr. I picked up mad max fury road in 3D and that alone was worth my purchase. Hulu has a vr mode and so do a lot of other apps. I bought mine on release and love it. When you put it on you aren't just playing games.

Cash

I didn't know you could watch 3D blu rays, I know they aren't really being made as much as they used to, but that's a huge oversight for them to never mention you can watch them with PSVR

Hi favorite gaming podcasters, about competitive games bring out the worse in you, I can relate to that big time. Usually I'm not into shooters or competitive games, but for some reason the team work, the strategy and the pure adrenaline that is part of Rainbow Six Siege made me addicted for some years, from the Beta days of the game. I developed strong bonds with my team players. Some people I knew and some I met along the way, and my gaming friends bubble expanded. I guess after years of late nights and stressful play sessions, the game had a bad effect in my mental health and I wasn't so good handling my emotions and I had a period of deep depression. It all went away when I decided to uninstall the game from my console and I didn't look back. I still have contact with my gaming friends via chat groups but I don't play R6S anymore. I still and will always love that game as the best shooter I have ever played, but I don't want to train for gaming, that "getting better" mentality now is best put to use in my professional skills instead of my hobby.

2022-01-24 03:15:16 Hey Colin, Regarding PSVR, I have sympathy for your predicament. On the one hand, I would love you to cover more PSVR, since I think it is a pretty big part of the PlayStation ecosystem, and littered with really cool experiences. However, I absolutely don't want you guys to cover it if you don't feel it. I 110% agree with your assertion that you get the best version of Colin & Chris if you play what you want. Cheers, Pete PS. Except AstroBot. Play it immediately! :P

Wild game processing is a pretty big albeit niche business. I personally process all my wild game myself because these services are pricy but they are available.
