Sometimes, The Brothers Moriarty get a little too ambitious, and this particular episode of the show is a good example of how. That's because we went into recording this entry of KnockBack assuming we'd be able to talk about both of our eras collecting Star Wars toys all at once. But such an idea quickly proved too unwieldy for just one episode. So instead of trying to cover literally decades all at once, we thought we'd focus on Star Wars' original era -- A New Hope through Return of the Jedi and the couple of years that followed -- and dive deep into Dagan's experience in particular collecting the action figures, vehicles, and playsets as they came to market. Dagan has a near-complete collection of Kenner toys from 1977 (well, technically 1978) through 1985, so let's just say he has quite a bit of experience. And alongside that experience, thankfully, comes a head full of memories and stories to share.

Dude. I wish I had a way to show you my 90's 12" Star Wars figures. I built cool ass shelves with LED lights and a lot of my figures are customized. I went in and painted/modified them to be more film accurate. I even took a crappy plastic Chewbacca and gave him fur.

Can’t believe Pontius Pilate flew airplanes for thousands of years. What a guy

Tanner Brant

Love when you guys talk about anything Star Wars

Brandon Hardman

Dagan guessing Aquaman is the hardest I’ve laughed at a podcast in a while.

I know! Colin saying, "You have GOT to be kidding me" sent me into hysterics. Hahaha.

LastStandMedia

I suppose it stands to reason that there really are things we don't know about each other!

Nate McKinney

Great topic! I can't wait to hear about your collection, Colin. I was born in '86, so I got into Star Wars and the toys when they re-released the movies in like 96/97. I imagine we had a lot of the same toys.

Ryan Murdoch

Great episode as usual Moriarty Bros. I always wanted Boba Fett and the Rancor, never got them though, I remember having a picture of the Rancor that I drew squares over so that it looked like a cage and had battles with the heroes trying to stop the bad guys from opening the cage. My favourites that I did have were R2 and carbonite Han Solo.

What happens when the operation to reclaim the buried VHS is underway, and what’s unearthed is actually the lost X Wing cockpit?

really enjoyed this episode hearing about the toys and hearing Dagans passion.. I was massively into the toys as a kid... sadly I recently sold it all... basically I already am a big retro game collector... but have such limited space so I decided I couldn't do both...but I still regret. Regarding you doing a Star Wars video game episode... I would adore that... on that you might enjoy a 266 page free pdf book I did on every star wars video game ever released a few years back... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxvnp7cHAPAZR3NIZmZsNTlHZm8/view?usp=drivesdk I have left Retro Asylum now and do RGDS podcast. Anyway I would love your thoughts and it may give you ideas on games to cover. By the way the reason the font seems bigger than normal, I designed it to be digital and on tablets.. so its designed so the reader can read it comfortably without having to zoom in all the time. Hope you and your fellow listeners enjoy... if it makes people play the far superior Japanese Famicom Star Wars by Namco (developed by Kissy who designed Pac Land it will have been worth it 😃)

Trent Miller

I like it well done!;)

LastStandMedia

That would be amazing, especially considering the cockpit was lost in another yard in another town. =D

What great memories guys! If only I could recall some of our own alternate Star Wars plots we acted out back then. I did have a Vader who ultimately lost his hand at some point so I went with the script that day!

I like to think there is an afterlife or purgatory where all of our action figure accessories live. Like guns, lightsabers and backpacks floating around. There should be a segment paying tribute to all the lost accessories we’ve lost along the way. Loved the episode. I was tickled when I saw what it was about

Kenneth Koepnick

As a guy who does toys for a living... I love the toy episodes & this one was gold. I really appreciate how in depth it got. Imagine the balls on a toy company to just sell you a box promising you’d get toys like a year later.... that would never happen today.

Alan Miller

Loved this episode I have so many cherished memories of those Star Wars toys from the early 80s. I don't think I have ever loved anything like I loved my Millennium Falcon not even my wife or my first born

Hey dude, it's crazy to hear about you selling your collection. I think, at some point, space really does become an issue. I'll never sell my Star Wars toys, but it's easy to say that when they're virtually worthless.

LastStandMedia

That's a really awesome idea. God, I lost so much of my shit over the years, particularly with GI Joe.

I know I'm way late but the T-16 Skyhopper is actually seen in the background while Luke is playing with the T-16 toy model at the Lars Homestead. Nerd!
