Wanna get into the games industry? Sometimes you just have to put yourself out there. Today's guest is Chase Williams, a producer in the gaming industry who has worked at a couple of studios during his few years as a professional (including at Sony San Diego). Mr. Williams just took a job as a games producer in Germany, but before he left the States, he wanted to swing by to not only talk about what he does, but how he got his job, and how you may be able to meander your way into making games, too. The latter half of our conversation delves into the philosophy behind creating and playing games, as well, giving this episode a two-part kind of feel. We hope you enjoy.

I’ve been back and forth on Twitter with Chase a few times. Good guy, clearly knows about what he does. A Rush fan too, which is the surefire sign of a cool guy.

Hey a bit off tangent but did Rush worship the devil. My Dad told me that RUSH was an Acronym for Rulers Under Satan's House I still like rush i just thought since they were canadian it was odd for some reason.

This podcast took a fascinating turn at the end. Thinking about games in terms of aesthetics is something I would like to know more about.

I super very briefly worked with Chase while I interned at Hellfire Games one summer in Austin. Wish I got to know him better! Always seemed like a great person to hang out with.

Really enjoyed the aesthetics conversation. This is something I’m going to have to read more about Also, that’s back to back shows (this and latest Sacred Symbols) with a PlayStation Home reference.

I hope this episode was enjoyable for you all! I probably could have done a better job explaining production but I am happy I got to give aesthetics some time in the limelight, as I think its super crucial in knowing games at their most foundation level. If anyone wants to talk about the subject further, please reach out to me on here or Twitter. Would be elated to talk with you all.

Tyson Williams

I was hoping you would ask about Guns Up being ported to Steam :D

Great job Chase! You probably don't remember me at all but I super briefly worked at Hellfire too when you got started there! I really felt motivated by what you said in how you got started in the first half of the podcast and I'd like to talk to you about production further at some point. I'm good friends with Israel and your ideas come up in conversation every now and then and so it was almost surreal to hear it from the source alongside Colin who I too have been listening to for years. In a strange and really indirect way I'm proud of you and applaud you for pushing for a new conversation around games entirely! Keep it up man!

Was cool to see another University of Texas grad on the show. Very interesting show. Thanks to both of you.

Chase seems like awesome guy. Sounds like we are of similar age, share some traits/interests, and had a decently similar trajectory between college and early professional life, only he ended up in games and seems to have been more proactive overall. Very inspirational for me personally.

Dino D'Adamo

I too am a Producer and followed the same process as Chase but in the Animation industry. Cool stuff though, love hearing more about the inner workings of the game industry.

Great episode and insight to other ways of viewing, experiencing and thinking about video games. Even though I don't necessarily agree with all of Chase's views or opinions, I can't hste on a well thought out and example supported opinions.

This episode is sooo goood! I love the philosophical approach on games. Chase is a great speaker.

Persona is art, Breath of the Wild is art but Majora's Mask is better art, and Dark Souls is art that you hate until you beat it

😂 Just putting in my 2 cents, should have just said love the show
