Before we get into our Game of the Year awards in a couple of weeks, we wanted to clear our plates (so to speak) by touching on some of the greatest (and worst!) PlayStation-related moments of the last calendar year. For instance, God of War, Detroit: Become Human, and Spider-Man gave us a trio of amazing PS4 exclusives that lifted our spirits, but the likes of the PlayStation Classic and Sony's initial attitude towards cross-platform play left us a bit sour. Then there's the nebulous stuff -- such as Sony exiting next year's E3, the company acknowledging PlayStation 5 for the first time, and the like -- that have left us excited, but also nervous. Let's work through it all, with a ton of listener memories and thoughts complementing our own. We also get into some recent news, too, including the long-awaited Dreams beta finally arriving on the scene, Sony's inability to manufacture the Vita carts publishers ordered, and much more. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Wishing you a fantastic Christmas Colin .

A healthy dose of Colin & Chris on Christmas day? The holiday just can't get any better. Hallelujah! 🤓😁

Russell Garrett

Jesus dude just because it’s Tuesday that doesn’t mean we expect you to publish an episode! Obviously I’ve no problem with it, I’ll veg out and listen later with a whiskey. Stop working now and chill out for a couple of days. As I loyal patron I demand it. Happy Christmas Colin.

Brock Smith

Merry Christmas Colin and Chris! Wish you and your family nothing but the warmest wishes and I appreciate you all in my life even though we’ve never met. Crazy cool times we live in for that to be possible. Cheers from KY mates! 🎄

Tony Colton

Christmas gift... Wasn't expecting this 🤗

Really good work schedule Colin - those 500 hours weeks are paying off. I recently played Detroit and although I enjoyed the game a lot it still had those cringy elements that really pulled me out of the experience. Still agree it is an important exclusive title and people should play it to make their own mind about it.

Forrest Hunter

This is all I wanted for Christmas.

Andrew

Worst, hands down has to be e3. The amount of arrogance on display was truly amazing. Best is God of War, the amount of sheer joy I had playing that game takes the cake

Aaron Trahan @AaronMadeULaugh

Thank you guys so much for consistently amazing output!! Merry Christmas 🎁🎄!!Colin, I think it’s fine if people change their minds about games, but the annoying part is when they don’t acknowledge the change. When they pretend they loved a game the whole time. I skipped N64 and GameCube, so haven’t played a lot of those 3D Zelda games, yet.

Glad to be a a part of the community you guys have created. Wishing you and your loved ones all the best for the coming year. A proud new patron.

LastStandMedia

Well, that's my point. People hated the shit out of Wind Waker (Majora's Mask to a lesser but still pronounced extent), and now I can't find many of those people anymore...? =)

Matthew Perry

Saving this one for my drive on boxing Day and can't wait to listen :-) hoping all my cls players had a good Christmas :-)

Brandon Soto

Just waiting for God of War Team Racing to get announced

Michael Vecchio

This is the perfect final Christmas gift for today. It's definitely going to help me get through cleaning up the house after the family leaves. Merry Christmas to both of you!

Kenneth Oms

I gotta say I agree with Colin about the days after christmas waiting for the year to end. Currently i'm at work, there are four people here besides me and we're all just staring at our monitors. I'm just excited for the twilight zone marathon and to play some pillars of eternity or fall out.

NeO JD

Thanks for putting out content over the holidays and for reading my comment on it! I’ve always thought of Chris as kinda silly myself although his disabled clown comment went to another level. 😄 Btw, don’t know if you guys saw but PS Classic is already selling at $60. Disappointment indeed.

Tyler

“Battlefield V isn’t there...” Colin referring to the top sales chart. Also Colin, “Battlefield V number 3 last month.”

Joey Finelli

Merry Christmas to all of you!

David Graham

Heh, apologies to Chris for calling him silly; that's a bit of an in-joke with a friend of mine with the same name. Still probably less perplexing and damaging to someone's psyche than calling them "small arms."

LastStandMedia

I've always told Chris: He can be whatever he wants to be, so long as he puts his mind to it. And yeah, no surprise about the PS Classic's failure.

Lucas Gremista

I gotta confess I lowered the difficulty in GOW to "easy" so I could beat the Queen of Valkyries. With this now off my chest, I can start 2019 in peace.

Colin is giving the audience the MVP treatment right before the 1st of the month. I see you

Could No Mans Sky’s launch be considered a miss by Sony? It’s not exactly a SIE game, but Sony did push it as if it was. They certainly pushed it more than Until Dawn and Detroit. Even for myself, I’m sure the updates to the game are great but after those 2-3 years of constantly seeing the game at shows and then seeing how it was those first few months, I just have no desire to spend any time with the game.

Brandon Soto

Best of 2018 for me personally is definitely Spider-Man. I’ve always been a fan and enjoyed the PS1 games as well, so when Insomniac said they were making a Spider-Man game, I was all in. Mac Miller sadly passed away when the game came out, who was one of my favorite artists, and then Stan Lee passed a few months later. So playing the game is always an emotional experience for me. While God of War is a better game imo, Spider-Man definitely left a bigger impact

Brandon Soto

The Worst of 2018 is definitely E3. Such an awkward, cringeworthy show where they talked about the same exact games 2 years in a row. Won’t miss it this year at all.

LastStandMedia

See, I'm not positive that God of War IS a better game than Spider-Man. I have to ponder that as I prepare my GotY video next week. I also have to ponder if Detroit is better than both of them...

John Lynch

Personally, I gave my Nod to Detroit. But if I had to choose between Spider-Man and God Of War, id give the nod to Spider-Man. While the game was great, I felt that it was a few hours too long and by the end was just ready for it to be over

John Lynch

My favorite moment this year was getting to finally own PSVR. I’ve had the money but because I’ve been getting ready for a newborn and paying credit debt I haven’t wanted to pull the trigger. My first game I loaded up was Th persistence and it was amazing. I’m a believer in the tech now. For those who haven’t, the Persistence is a Sci-Fi horror rogue lite and it’s great.

Jason Stafford

I play everything on easy if it's available nowadays. My old man reflexes and nerves aren't what they were when I was younger. :(

LastStandMedia

I'm so glad you got your hands on PSVR, and that you like it. It really is a great machine.

IanCee

Hello! I hope you read this. I want to thank you for pouring your content with passion and hardwork. I've had an awful year. My girlfriend of six years left me and my dog of 11 years passed away. I've been trying to finish my college thesis to finally graduate and find my passion in life (I didn't particularly enjoyed my career choice). I've been battling with depression for years now. Things haven't really gone my way and I don't see the end of it... But your podcasts and videos have really helped me all through these difficult moments. Ever since IGN and Kinda Funny I've found solace listening to your opinion and endearing personality. I respect you and your work very much. I hope you get to keep doing what you love for a lot of years to come. Hearing Knockback, Fireside Chats and Sacred Symbols make my crappy day a bit better. I would put listening to Sacred Symbols as one of my favorite moments this year. Thank you for everything, Colin.

LastStandMedia

Hey Ian. I'm sorry that you've had a rough year, but take comfort in that it's almost over, and that you're gonna have a much better 2019. I just know it! Keep your head up, and keep on moving. I'm glad to be here for you when you need me. =) Be good. -Colin

Daniel Navarro

Hey Colin, I’m half way through this episode at the Crash team racing/Wind Waker talk and just wanted to raise my hand and say I remember the Wind Waker hate too. In fact, I am one of the Waker Waker haters, I hated it when I saw it, I initially enjoyed it when I started playing it, and I hated it all over again (potentially even more) when you go to the bottom of the ocean and saw the game I actually wanted to play. Never got passed the Triforce quest which is where I drew the line and never touched that game again. Just wanted to let you know we still exist. Have a Happy New Year and enjoy your time off.

Luke Bernhard

54 minutes - that got super real super fast... Reminded me of playing The Last of Us - Then, of course, you mention The Last of Us!
