In 1937, Walt Disney and his fledgling animation company executed a quantum leap when they released Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the first animated feature film of its kind. The rest, as they say, is history. Today's episode of KnockBack is dedicated to those early days of Disney features, from Pinocchio and Dumbo to Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, as well as many others. And who better to learn about it all from than a professional animator with more than two decades of experience, who just so happens to be an authority on these films, the people who made them, and the art scene that fostered their amazing work? See, there's no need to whistle while you work. Just listen to this podcast instead.

Kinda sucks they no longer do traditional animation anymore. It’s all 3D now, similar to Pixar.

Jason Bolla

Love episodes that put Dagan at the forefront, especially with his knowledge in the industry. Majoring in animation makes me appreciate it all the more.

Michal Dudic

for the record, I fucking LOVE the dad jokes. also, since you have that appreciation for hand-drawn animation, I can't recommend Cuphead enough, it's right up your alley. I know it's on weird platforms but I think you'd really enjoy it.

Such a great episode, guys. Strange aside, but as I was walking home from work in Dublin on Wednesday night, I was commenting on your Mega Man let's play, a guy cycled passed me and stole my phone from my hand. I chased him for almost a mile but I lost him. After such a positive episode, I was in pretty bad humour for the next 2 days but just got my new phone today and this episode was exactly what I needed. So thank you for always being there. Knockback seemed to come at a perfect time this week. Thanks again for all you do.

Dude, that sucks that happened to you. Unbelievable. Glad that we could still be there for you, though. <3

My girlfriend (who is exposed to you a lot as I tend to do the driving and yourself, Dagan and Chris are my favourite companions) absolutely loved this episode. She’s a hardcore Disney fan and adores animation. She really appreciated Dagan’s insight here and wanted me to pass on the message about how much she enjoyed this episode. I loved it as always.

I love to hear someone discuss something they're so deeply passionate about to such a granular level.

Jason Bolla

Excellent choice on Summer being trash. Have always loved SF for the weather.

One of my favourite Knockbacks so far, even if I'm more partial to the late 80s and beyond disney animations. I could listen to Dagan's passion on the subject for hours. You also speak to my soul regarding seasons Colin, lol. I'm not quite the vampire you are, but cold enough to see my breath, yet with a clear blue sky is my ideal :)

Awesome episode - would love to hear Dagan's take on Tex Avery cartoons. I've always put animation over movies due to amount of work that goes into that art and getting past limitations. Great episode guys

I thought the funniest thing in this episode was Dagan saying "BGs" but then y'all started talking about getting bleach on the "donger!" Thanks for always cracking us up. Oh yeah the rest of the episode was good too.

Jordan Gagliano

Wow, something I would never have had an interest in, but I'm already looking up "Disney Animation : The Illusion of Life" on EBay and Amazon. Great topic guys.

Joseph Ady

I'm loving it. Hearing Dagan passionately talk about his craft while giving me insight on something I knew little about is great.
