The last few days have been dire. Beloved adventure game dev Telltale has been suddenly shuttered, leaving some 250 people unemployed. It's incredibly sad, and we take the time to go through the whats, whys, and hows. Sony also revealed that PlayStation Vita manufacturing will officially conclude in the coming months, indicating that, after dodging death for years, Vita's end is nigh. And Capcom's Canadian studio, Capcom Vancouver, has been shuttered as well. But even with all of the blood, there's good news, too. Insomniac's Spider-Man has broken sales records, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is coming to PS4... oh, and did you hear about the PlayStation Classic? Where do we begin?!

It’s a busy episode!

Things that Chris RG and Geralt of Rivia said : I have a Roach problem

Tyson Williams

4:05 “we’re going to space, nerds!”

Owen

Its all about plausible deniability

Owen

Sometimes I wish the podcast had video, not because I wanna see your handsome faces, but because I want a DOOM counter. Just this silent counter in some random places in the background that goes up everytime Chris mentions DOOM

Tyson Williams

I’ve thought about possibilities for a Superman game and I think it’s pretty simple that they should go back to when superman was originally made and he was much less powerful and couldn’t fly infinitely and the game could take place in the 40’s

Kenneth Oms

I'm a huge Dead Rising 1 - 3 fan, a lot of us on the reddit were sad to see vancouver go. Even though you have to take reviews with a grain of salt, the glassdoor reviews for vancouver months before it closed painted a sad picture.

"One bread a sandwich does not make." What about a philly cheesesteak? What about a sub? Arent those essentially sandwiches?

Tyson Williams

I agree that the shuttering of telltale was along time coming unfortunately. Also if you guys did 24 hour long Sacred Symbols you wouldn’t lose my attention

David Passman

Colin, I've always loved your opinions on all topics, but at 31:43, the GameCube version of Metal Gear Solid (Twin Snakes) is NOT superior to the original PS1 version. Voice acting and fundamental game play were both redone. As someone who has said graphics should take a backseat to how the game plays, this is an example of the opposite. Keep up the great work on all the constant content! My best to you, Erin and Lola!

Owen

Is it weird that I'm going to buy Anthem just to contribute to that studio staying open so we can get another Dragon Age?

Tyson Williams

I’m pretty sure think of the children was last week too

Joey Finelli

I can listen to a 3 hour podcast if you guys made it.

Ian (616Entertainment)

Six minutes in and I’m already wishing there was a side podcast you guys did where you just fuck off. I think the same thing about KnockBack sometimes, too. Great conversation, super funny, no leash or road map. I’ll comment again later when I’m done listening, Hahaha

Kyle Conaway

Loving the podcast, but I just want to speak to the length of podcast question. Go as long as you guys need to. In my opinion, I could listen to you guys talk all day. I understand that you have other things you need to do and time management is important. Just don’t worry about going on to to long. The worst thing would be if you cut a pod short to wrap it up. Or limit it to a certain length. Again, love what your doing and appreciate all of your hard work. Keep it up!

Ian (616Entertainment)

Okay I’m sorry the scooping of the fucking ice out of the McDonald’s cup is excellent. Chris: “I think maybe we’re just neurotic.” You think? Hahahaha dude this one is so good.

John Lynch

Great show guys. Colin this is for Chris, going off his roach issue, after fumigation he can buy a bait, and then also out insect growth regulators around the house in the closets and cabinets. It will break up the growth cycle and kill them and along with the fumigation he should be all set

Marcus Brown

You are not alone Colin. I don't use ice either it's unnecessary. Great show as always.

Kenny Gutzler

Zero desire to do anything with Dreams.

Craig Carter

Very excited about those Fireside Chats with Pat Contri and David Jaffe that you mentioned.. particularly Pat cause I’ve been wanting that to happen for as long as you’ve been flying solo with CLS 👍🏻

LastStandMedia

90-120 minutes is the sweet spot. Honestly, you can multiply the runtime by three or four, and that's how long it takes me to edit each episode. So... I'd really prefer not to go any longer.

David Portnov

Hi Colin, I just wanted to let you know that you I don't mind you and Chris going as long as you want on Sacred Symbols. I'm listening to the latest episode right now and it's great so far as usual.

Ryan T. Mandle

I’m with you guys on connecting flights. I hate them so much I prefer to rent a car and drive 2.5 hours to Chicago for my flights. The total cost of the flight plus rental car is usually cheaper than flying out of my home town.

Jake H.

Sensational episode this week, guys. I especially appreciate that you took the question suggesting that Telltale's writing staff might be partly to blame for their closure, even if you didn't necessarily agree. While I personally am not well-versed in Telltale Games' library, the narrative I've heard from the gaming community for years now was that the writing in their games reached its zenith with the Walking Dead S1 and has been on a steady decline since, perhaps as some of the more talented writers left for greener pastures. It's natural to be sympathetic to those who lost their jobs in the wake of the studio's closure, but I feel like there's sort of a collective amnesia happening where people are focusing on the highlights and ignoring the years of poor quality titles Telltale has been churning out.

LastStandMedia

They're the worst. When I go visit my family in Virginia, I just fly to Dulles and someone comes and gets me. LOL.

LastStandMedia

I'm glad that resonated with you. We're always glad to have the hard, real conversations, regardless of where they take us. Thank you for listening!

Always go longer if needed!! The more the merrier & helps me get through the work day!!

hugplx

Great ep as usual dudes. Personally not a fan of the Releases section of the pod, despite your excellent readings of it. Especially given the amount of garbage that gets released each week. I thought about it given your remark that you're noticing drop offs at around the two hour mark and thought it might be related. You guys have great chemistry and I could listen to you both talk shit for hours, so it's definitely not the length of the pod itself - at least for me. Now excuse me while I go prove this by listening to the latest three hour Rogan pod, lol.

LastStandMedia

We've been receiving some of this feedback, and we'll discuss it on next week's show. A lot of people love the readings, so I don't want to give in to a vocal minority (if that's what it is). But we could also fit in more questions at that point, OR just cut the episode shorter, which we'll probably just do if we get rid of that section. Always open to feedback, so keep it coming!

PlayStation Now does not have flawed functionality. I’ve had it for about 2 months now and it works perfectly fine about 99% of the time. The amount of lag is negligible. I think people forget that there is already input lag using a wireless controller, even a wired controller has lag as well. With PlayStation Now you have both lag of button input as well as the round trip of data sent across the network. However that data is moving so quickly across the network that you are unable to notice any difference as far as what we are used to with gameplay mechanics. I’ve played a variety of games on Now, including: God of War HD (PS3) God of War 2 HD (PS3) God of War 3 Remaster (PS4) Infamous (PS3) Infamous 2 (PS3) Borderlands 2 (PS3) Rage (PS3) Mortal Kombat (PS3) Among others, and my experience has been totally acceptable, if not great. Would you have the same exact experience of playing a game such as Doom on PS Now than you would on a PS4 Pro? No, but i would imagine based on my experience that it would still be a worthy experience. I live in an urban area and have ok internet, not fantastic. If you pass the connection test that PS Now does for you when you look at the app then I would think you have a perfectly fine connection.

Nate McKinney

That feeling when Colin says, "I think you're exactly right." :) Seriously though, THQ, what the hell?! Unrelated: Goddamn I am so excited for Castlevania SOTN on PS4 and the Pheonix Wright games!

John Lynch

With Capcom Vancouver being shuttered and DR being canceled I have no more will to live

Let the episodes be as long as you want. They get me through my work day.

Matthew Perry

Obviously this information was not available when you did the podcast but naughty dog have been offering telltelle employees jobs in there company which I think is super cool and reaffirms my faith that naughty dog are really cool people !!

Jorge Pal

Awesome episode! Great work!

Jason Stafford

Oh my God this Colin guy talks entirely too much. I wish he'd shut up. I absolutely pay my Patreon money because I don't want to hear him talk. (NOT!) Side note on the PSTV, it was great when you wanted to play your PS4 in another room without moving the console. Remote play for the win!

Hose A Contra Razz

I’m think it’s the same for Sony getting the same treatment as Nintendo, the one who the most shit is Xbox.

Adam Niksch

Colin, I’d simply like to say that you are not alone. I also did not eat hot dogs until I was older (high school). I also did not eat chicken nuggets, or tenders, until around the same time. Chik fil-a was ultimately what won me over to nuggets/tenders.

LastStandMedia

Regardless of how well it works, it can never be spot-on, and that's a problem for me. That we can now download games from the service is a game-changer, in my opinion.

LastStandMedia

Me too, dude. I'm more excited about Phoenix Wright, Castlevania Requiem, and Onimusha Remastered than I am almost anything else.

LastStandMedia

Seems like lots of people are offering lots of ex-Telltale employees jobs, which is great. =)

Adam Niksch

Honestly, I think I tried one at a very young age and hated everything about it. Then heard all those stories about how they were made over time, which made them look awful too.

Jason Stafford

I've got to get a new memory card as bad as I hate to. My 64gb one died week before last. :(

Hose A Contra Razz

Since you get a lot of the questions for the ps podcast is it time to up the tier to $5 or $10 tier, I for one would like that, just a suggestion

LastStandMedia

Nah. $2/month just to submit questions and vote on topics (and get an exclusive podcast a month) I think is great value. $5/month Patrons get all of that PLUS each podcast early and ad-free. $10/month get all of both tiers, PLUS the exclusive, intimate Q&A each month. I think we got a good thing going.

Gabriel Garcia

I looked up This is the Police 2 on the psn after today's drop and was surprised to see it's a THQ Nordic game! The trailer made it seem pretty cool and I might just play it out of sheer curiosity. Also the Iran game about the coup is a University of Southern California game? Which I also thought was interesting. Does the drop show who the developer is? I think it might add some extra context to these games. Anyway, keep up the great work fellas.

Jake Watson

To answer your question regarding episode length. For me personally, the longer the better. I listen at work and the more time I can spend listening to you talk about video games the better my day is.

LastStandMedia

THQ Nordic, killin' it. Lots of interesting stuff comes out of USC! I think Thatgamecompany came from that program. Giant Sparrow, too.

Brett Carlson

On PS Now you can now download all ps2 games in the Now library colin. A little late to the party but a huge sleeper move bySony. PS Now was such a bust as streaming only. Now that is remedied

Brett Carlson

Also totally agree on the inflated first party legacy titles for Nintendo getting infalted scores. Breath of the Wild is a great game. It is not a damn near 100 like it scored on metacritic. Lesser nostalgic titles would have been ripped for some design decisions in that game such as the shrines being rinse and repeat after about 40 of them.

LastStandMedia

I'm confused. Didn't we talk about this on the show...? If not, that's a major error on my part, because it's in our show notes.

Tyler

It sucks what happened to TellTale but I mean, what did everyone expect? They announced game after game even before the current one scheduled for release has even been released. I recently played through Batman season 1 (free with PS+) and I found the story cool but man, that had some serious technical issues. It was so bad it completely took me out of the storytelling. Anyways, best of luck to those folks.
