10 Dormant PlayStation Franchises That Sony Should Revive -- CLS Side Quest

Since launching the original PlayStation in late 1994, Sony has funded and published scores upon scores of games from franchises it owns outright. Not surprisingly, most Sony IP has fallen dormant over the years -- time does that -- but with the company’s well-established emphasis on quality exclusives, there are series in PlayStation’s past that the Sony would be wise to revisit. This video, as voted on by CLS Patrons, is dedicated to 10 such franchises, why they should come back, and how they might fit in the modern gaming ecosystem. After all, we haven’t heard from some of these series in nearly two decades. What are your thoughts on The Legend of Dragoon? Lots of people have demanded it to return but you never talk about it.

Can't wait to sink my ears into this one!

"Dont want to be mean-spirited"...darn I like when you choose people to shoot into the sun....see Rian Johnson :-) that must be a different type of spirit!

Matthew Perry

Just watched and loved this episode , my favourites for a come back would definitely be " resistance" and "the getaway " as where we are with better graphics and AI would definitely help these titles ! Keep up the great work and looking forward to tommorrows episode of sacred symbols :-)

Tyler

Colin, Thanks for doing this topic I suggested, I really enjoyed it. And yes, BRING BACK RESISTANCE! Take care,

Luke Tucker

I am unfamiliar with Colony Wars (was a N64 kid at the time) but after seeing the gaming footage here & listening to your take? I need to search it out. 👍

Brock Thomas Walsh

Resistance needs to come back. I adore that trilogy! And Sony revisiting Legend of Dragoon would be so awesome

Joseph Ady

Haven't watched yet but Dark Cloud and Vagrant story should be revived. Wouldn't mind a croc 3 either.

Colin, are you planning to do these with the other two consoles or just a one off?

Nate McKinney

Seeing Legend of Dragoon on here made me very happy. It was one of the first jrpgs I beat along with Final Fantasy IX back in the day when I was like 12 or 13. Those two together got me into the genre. Still puzzles me that PlayStation hasn't done anything with that IP. It has a loyal following that's been clamoring for a sequel for nearly two decades. Plus when they released it as a PS1 classic on PS3, it was the best selling PS1 classic for something absurd like 3 months in a row. It needs to come back! Thanks for showing it some love, Colin! Another great episode!

No Freedom Wars!? loved the art direction and gameplay. It was my favorite vita game after Persona 4 Golden.

Great video and I have so much respect for your approach when it comes to doing videos with like this... (meaning avoiding the mean-spirited approach, games being over-rated, or franchises needing to "go away") I just find videos like that "click-bait-y" on YouTube and I get it, humans love lists, and rankings, and they drive traffic to websites or channels.

You have improved tremendously in editing videos. However, I miss your face :(. That was one of the best things from your old videos about History and Politics. Your reactions are priceless!

Excellent video Colin. I completely forgot how much I loved Jeanne d'Arc and Sound Shapes on my Vita! Those would be a day 1 buy for me if they came back.

Been hoping for a Legend of Dragoon sequel or remake for 15 years.....

Am I the only who wants Warhawk to come back with a Battle Royale mode?

LastStandMedia

No plans to do more, no. The only reason I did this video was because the Patrons voted for it!

LastStandMedia

It would be interested to see or hear more about the sequel that they canned. Thank you for watching!

LastStandMedia

This is honestly not a video (nor style of video) I probably would have done without fans voting for it. But I'm glad to have done it. =)

I distinctly remember playing Warhawk at Clements' house in 2008-ish with a bunch of people. Wasn't really my thing, honestly.

Really enjoyed this one, Colin, great work. It wasn’t a PS exclusive, but if I could, I’d bring back NFL Blitz. I know they did just that in 2012-ish, but they gutted the game of its spirit. No late hits? No season mode? What a botch job. Blitz was fun, especially for a casual football fan like myself. I always got trounced in Madden back in the day, and have absolutely no interest in the Madden games nowadays, they’re way too complicated. I just want to pass, run and destroy homies before I hit them with an elbow drop.

I came to terms long ago that it would probably never happen....yet a glimmer of hope remains.....

Great video as always Colin, I appreciated this skip down memory lane. I’m particularly happy that you mentioned MAG, a game that I sunk dozens and dozens of hours into and was genuinely one of the few that attracted to the 128v128 system. You touched on the idea of MAG and the concept of having it be semi-parallel to the battle royale firestorm that is happening right now. I’d like to paint a picture of MAG on the PS5, and please let me know your thoughts. MAG2 on the PS5 would include all of the variants from the PS3 version, including a battle royale mode to act as a ‘way in’ for modern BR gamers to get introduced to the other modes. The major criticisms from reviews of the time would be cleaned up (choppy animations, balance, bugs, etc) so that those aspects aren’t hindered anymore. My only thought is: How do you sell it? Do you let the ‘MAG’ game types be the selling point, or let it try to be a BR contender? Fortnite did the ‘free, but with cosmetic DLC’ route. PUBG did the ‘first out the gate, beta game w/ bugs but still fun’ route, and Call of Duty is going to sweep the floor as the ‘you know who we are, and we are doing BR at the AA level’ route. I thought about the idea of using “MAG2” as a PS5’s gateway to multiple crowds; using it as the “Sony” cross-platform (MS has PUBG) game that just happens to include a BR mode. Give “MAG2” to a Sony-owned studio, develop it for all the major users (PS5, Xbox 3?, and PC) and release it with cross-play in mind. These are just some ramblings typed out when I heard “MAG” again and become stupidly excited; I just decided to document them and pass them on and see what you thought. Cheers!

LastStandMedia

It's a nice idea, but it goes against Sony's entire mantra. They barely put their games on PC, and they have no interest in playing nice with others (unless, as with Fortnite, their feet are continuously put to the fire). I think the route to success with MAG2 would be a PS5 launch F2P battle royale game, exclusive to the console.
