Next year (presumably), we'll finally get our hands on Naughty Dog's highly-anticipated sequel to The Last of Us, the aptly-named The Last of Us: Part II. But one Sacred Symbols listener has a concern: Is it even possible for it to live up to the hype? We discuss. We also delve deep into news from the past week. Spider-Man's DLC has already been announced, PS2's Onimusha is finally coming to PS4, Battlefield V has been delayed, Anthem is getting a demo... and did you know Sekiro was originally going to be a Tenchu game? We talk about all of that, plus much more, with plenty of your questions peppered into the mix.

To be honest I was never a fan of the first Last of Us. New game looks good but I can’t help but feel it still won’t be for me

Feels like Christmas on a Tuesday.

Currently on a 2 hour train home from London, and exhausted my CLS podcasts on the way up. This is a Godsend!

The Michelin man is white because rubber is naturally white, like I’m not joking that’s why

Naughty Dog and Rockstar Games have earned and deserve whatever hype is generated based on their previous work. If they ever start to release bad games, they can be questioned.

David Graham

Hmm... so Chris and Colin say GIF differently.

I get what you are saying in regards to the Division laying out its plans, but as someone who occasionally gets into these long lasting service oriented games I actually appreciate this approach. It’s not the $60 that I would pay for a game like the Division 2 that I need to justify (for lack of better word), it’s the potentially hundreds of hours that I may sink into the game. I’d like to know the how, what, and when of support for the game. Not sure if this is the most eloquent response, but I really don’t know how else to explain it well. I think you believe it’s strange simply due to the fact that you have not and most likely will not get sucked into games like this. Not for a few weeks I mean, but for months and months. I assure you there are, maybe not millions, but certainly hundreds of thousands of potential Division 2 players that want this info. These are the players that will keep the game going.

To me, the thing with cross-play isn't about playing with Xbox people, or Switch people...it's about transferring my progress across systems. Switch and Xbox allow this, and Sony sticks out as the one who isn't. I think cross-play is a huge thing for those it affects, I've stopped playing Fortnite on my PS4 because of it.

Great Job on your puddlegate conversation. I think more fans need to be educated on what an E3 presentation is. Just like with Last of Us 2 "scripted" E3 demo controversy, people must understand E3 demos and trailers are highly rehearsed, vertical slices of a "in-production" product. These are used for promotional purpose. To give fans a glimpse into what they can expect. Fans need to be more understanding of the fluid nature of developing any artistic property. Change is inherent. 99 percent of developers are not trying to hoodwink you. They are in the buisness of making money not fooling there fans.

I’ve been interested in Onimusha for a while. I work in a games/records/movies store, and interestingly enough, we rarely see them come through. Having no real concrete knowledge of the series other than it looks cool and I want to check it out, I was confused by the remaster announcement. I had to look around and double check that Warlords is indeed Onimusha 1. I’ve never heard anyone call it by it’s full title, and in a world where Darksiders 2 gets remastered before Darksiders 1, all bets are off. Is it possible others are confused as well? Or should I go fuck myself? Great show as always.

Nate McKinney

I just want to say, if I had gone to PAX, I would've screamed "Colin is handsome," from the fucking rooftops. Hail, Colin! Great show as always, guys.

Josh Sheppard

Does anyone else have issues with Patreon not updating where I last left off in listening to a Podcast? This happens pretty regularly for me

John Lynch

When I listen on my phone on the way to work, I close it to go in and get back in my car it’s usually reset to the beginning again. Not sure if a work around so I usually wait for the free feed

Andrew

No way the last of us 2 is over hyped. I played the last of us just this last year without ever playing it before hand and was fucking blown away. Even knowing the spoilers along the way.

Matthew Skora

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Spider-Man being worse than Detroit and God of War. They are both really good games, although I'm not quite as high on Detroit as Colin is.

Piyush Athawale

I love Bloody Roar!! I want remastered version! Also do you guys remeber there was a song by some european group about playstation...in that song there was mention of bloody roar, omega boost, tekkken 3!! I used to trip listening to that song haha

Edwin Garcia

I always download the audio and listen to it , I get so many issues but the most annoying to me is that the app doesn’t remember what timeframe I stopped listening ( if I need a break) so if I go back I have to manually move forward

Jason Stafford

I have it, but have never played it. I'm under the impression that I'm a weiner and it's too scary for me. I can't play anything even remotely scary.

Owen

The downgrade people are total idiots... most people don't know how to voice their opinions very well. They also don't know what they're talking about generally speaking.

Jason Pettet

My question for next week was going to be how yall felt about TLOU having a sequel. I always kind of hoped it never got one. I haven't even played the DLC to TLOU, I felt the story didnt need anything else that it was perfect how it was. I also don't want or care for the movie either =/ I'm having trouble getting hyped for TLOU2 even though i know its going to be a great game.

Jason Pettet

Also LOVED you and Chris trading off the drop.

Owen

I feel like the DLC launch for Spider-Man is perfect. October - November- December. A month apart. They're giving this game legs all the way to christmas.

Tyler

I never cared about companies announcing DLC before games launch. Probably because I rarely ever buy DLC unless it is for a game I really, really enjoyed, Resident Evil 7 comes to mind. But most of the time I play a game until I complete it and then it gets put away, or in my case deleted.

Spanky

Some interesting information relating to the Destiny 2 PS+ conversation. At Best Buy the are giving away Destiny 2 with every game purchase above $30. I just got a copy with my DQXI purchase and I'm going to get another copy with my Spiderman purchase. I have never seen this happen before with any other game.

HunterJay

Y'know what? I think that thud Chris heard at the end of the show was probably the water man. I feel like he's returned to wreak untold aquatic vengeance upon you for starting a new Playstation podcast without his expressed permission.

Brett Carlson

Hey Colin, was wondering your thoughts on the possible comeback of Kingdoms of Amalur. Gaming media seems to be glossing this new over. I think people forget, despite soft sales, that this was one of the great hidden gems of last gen.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! I agree with you. While there's a short term gain (possibly) in deceiving the audience to make your game look better, it will inevitably result in a long term loss. Look at Hello Games and No Man's Sky. They over-promised and under-delivered to such a severe extent that it took them two years of constant work to fix it. And even then, many people will never give them or their future games another look, regardless. Making a game is an inherently dynamic process, and being dynamic means lots of change.

LastStandMedia

I think you're referring to Eiffel 65, the group behind what I would argue is the single worst song ever made: Blue.

LastStandMedia

It's annoying. I wish I could do something to ameliorate the situation, but unfortunately, it's out of my hands.

LastStandMedia

What I find with a lot of shit-talkers online when it comes to games is that many of them haven't the first clue how a game is made. That's fine, of course, but you should reserve your judgment on so-called "downgrades," if that's the case.

LastStandMedia

I will say, the DLC (Left Behind) is really great. I think you should give it a go. It's totally additive to the campaign.

LastStandMedia

I like that it's gonna be ready so quick, but I think next week would have been the ideal time to actually announce the plan.

LastStandMedia

That's a good point: I barely ever play DLC, either. I don't even know the last DLC I played, actually.

LastStandMedia

Activision either printed way too many copies (which is unlikely), or they're experimenting with a new strategy, in making money on the backend by hooking people and getting them to pay for content later. It's a bold move. Could indicate that if we get Destiny 3, it could be F2P.

John Lynch

Colin, in response to a question asked about how you felt about the spider man dlc, I think people are just finding stuff to get upset about and it would be better to just not do DLC if you’re not talking about financially. From a reception standpoint people will complain if they announce it right away and if it’s too late they complain they put the game away. Just release a finished game with NO dlc, unless it is something like a games as a service title

Jean-Francois Forsey

Loved your content for ages but let Mr. Gun know that you can hear his growth with every new episode! There’s a reason why you guys are topping the charts!

Brett Carlson

Although Last of Us is a great standalone game I dont think we can hit it with overhyped moniker. Naughty Dog is a top 5 studio in history, and the reason, consistency. Your hard pressed to find a game they made that isn't at least good when you put any personal bias aside. Just look at Uncharted 2 to 3. Arguably 3 was superior and then they went and made Last of Us. So if you follow the trail from there early days it's just consistent innovation each title. Be hyped. That's what makes our medium fun.

LastStandMedia

I agree. I'm of the mind that until Naughty Dog stumbles, it should be assumed that they won't.

29:50 LOL ! This Colin is best Colin.

Brett Carlson

Hey Colin had a question that I know you would have some insight on. Playing through spiderman towards a platinum I have thoughts of Infamous all through this game as I play. So I was wondering which do you think is the superior superhero game?

LastStandMedia

We answer this question on the Spider-Man spoilercast that goes live very shortly... (...though the answer is Infamous 2. =D)

Drake Gens

Colin recommended some video game books on this show. Does anyone remember what they were? I forgot to write them down while i was listening.
