Developers are getting less and less stingy with their games' Trophies, almost to a comical -- and dare we say destructive -- degree. So this week, we discuss the Trophy ecosystem in-depth, and reflect on how Sony can better protect and nurture the ecosystem. But of course, we also get nitty-gritty with the games themselves. Chasm is out, and Chris has played it extensively, so we chat about the newest entrant to the Metroidvania genre. Old video game website The Escapist is returning, but is its apolitical slant too little, too late? Plus, Spider-man and Shadow of the Tomb Raider have gone gold, Quantic Dream lost an important court case, Capcom is making tons of money, and much much more. Get ready for a jam-packed episode, rounded out as always with your questions.

Yayyyyy! It's Tuesday

TheBufferPiece

Perfect timing I was right about to mow my lawn and now I have something to listen to

Saulius Vekteris

Yes :) One of the best podcast on internet! Thanks guys ;)

Michael Ferrari

I bought the Best Buy gamer's club pass thing, and it rules. There's no time limit from what I can tell on when you get the discount, so you get 20% off pre-orders and old games just the same. I just got 20% off No Man's Sky for instance. Plus you get bonus rewards I guess? It says if I pre-order Madden I get a $10 certificate or something on top of the 20% off. I highly recommend it.

Hose A Contra Razz

you also get 20% special editions and game sales too. mine expires next year. ill be going all digital after that ends for me. i accumulated about $280 worth of points from games, pre-order bonuses.

Michael Renner

I love the long format. No rush, natural conversation.

Philip Andersen

I come from PC background originally and I highly stand with that a stable frame-rate is more important. I rather play a game in solid 30fps rather than varied frame-rate between 40-60fps as the dips interrupts gameplay for me, it makes it feel laggy. So with God of War, the performance mode wasn't a improvement at all for my experience.

Zack E

I love trophies and achievements. That’s all.

Anonymous

You guys spoke about trophies, and the rarity being worth different values and such - check out True Trophies (and True Achievements) which gives trophies a multiplier ratio based on how many people have the trophy. For instance Witcher 3 platinum has a TrueTrophy ratio of 2.45, and Walking Dead is 1.09 so the "score" of each platinum is different. You then get an overall TT Score.

Phil Crone

RE Chris's question about Devil May Cry and Bayonetta - both were created by Hideki Kamiya. Kamiya was director on both the original DMC and Bayonetta 1. As you can imagine, They share very similar DNA.

A.G.Rowe

Man am I loving all your content recently. Not that I didn't before, but in the last month I got married and then left for a two week road trip so I hadn't been able to keep up with your content for a bit. Long winded way of saying you're killling it dude. Keep up the great work! Love Sacred Symbols

Brandon Hardman

Thanks for answering my question. I didn’t even know there was a Mega Man boss named Hard Man until I listened to you’re podcast with Dagan. I downloaded the first legacy collection but haven’t got to play it much because Octopath came out.

To get rid of gnats: 1. Get a small jar 2. Put apple cider vinegar in it. 3. Put a funnel on top of the jar that doesn’t dip into the vinegar. 4. Wrap the seam of the jar and funnel in tape (packing or duct work best). 5. Sit that baby on the counter.

Marcus Brown

Vampyr is Great! I even got the platinum but that's just my take.

Marcus Brown

I would love a James Bond game if its even anything like Uncharted. Or a GoldenEye remake I would definitely be down for.

Marcus Brown

I have 7 trophies! I wouldn't want to play a game just to get a Platinum. My only easy Platinum is Batman Telltale. The rest is Mafia 3, Vampyr, Until Dawn, Deadpool, Assassins Creed: Origins, and Batman Arkham Knight. So I definitely try lol.

Michael Miller

Get a jar or Tupperware and fill it about halfway with apple cider vinegar. Then cover the top with clear plastic wrap and poke a few holes in the wrap. You’ll have a bunch of floating dead gnats within 72 hours.‬

Another wicked show guys.

Hot damn it's so good to hear this podcast each week; a podcast where the hosts aren't constantly talking over each other or shouting at us. I appreciate that you guys have fun without the forced goofiness of some shows. Thanks for the great work guys!

Anonymous

This podcast jsut keep getting better and better. Keep up the good work! Used to hate tuesdays, but not anymore <3

Modern Warfare 3 had Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games as co-developers. Sledgehammer was not just a support studio but a full on developer. I think that's one of the most prominent example.

Matthew Perry

Have given no man's sky another go , playing it on permadeath is definitely a game changer , 20 hours in and the thought of losing that time if I die definitely makes it more intense !!

William

On the topic of themes, I would check out the PS2 "Legacy" dashboard theme on PS4. It's pretty surreal turning on your PS4 and having the original boot up sounds from PS2. It's also pretty minimal and clean, so I think it'd be a good one to check out :) Also, bring back Onimusha Capcom.

FF XIV Comes to mind that made a huge comeback. I recomend watching ff xiv documentary by Noclip on youtube

Ian (616Entertainment)

Dude, this show keep getting better. Colin, I don't know if Chris reads these comments at all, but let him know we're noticing how much more comfortable he's getting, just these few episodes in. He was good from the start, but he's really flowing freely now. I know your work load is huge right now, but if you're ever considering bringing back the let's play series, having Chris play some of his old favorites like Crash Team Racing would be great. Just an idea! Great episode, guys.

LastStandMedia

Ironically, Goldeneye (as a game) is now owned by Microsoft, but the IP is owned by Sony. So...

LastStandMedia

Thank you! It's important for us to keep the show organic. Anything that's forced isn't gonna work for me.

LastStandMedia

Interesting. I'll look into this, but I really am of the assumption that, even then, that's a load of shit. Not that you're lying, but that Activision is. Making games is a top-down affair, and someone has to hold the reins.

LastStandMedia

He doesn't read them, I don't think. I'm working on getting him access, but Patreon is kinda rudimentary still with its suite of services, so you can't have like an employee login or something. Anyway, I'll pass along word of yours (and others') accolades.

Gabriel Garcia

I've followed you since beyond and this is the only reason I made a patreon. I love the difference you and Chris have and I can't wait to see y'all grow as friends, and to see Chris become more engrained in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Matthew Perry

Can't Chris become a patreon supporter of CLS and then access all the stuff that way , I'd be happy to add an extra dollar to my monthly donation for this ;-) just listened to your podcast with KCC , great show and it was cool you opened up with them on what I'm sure we're hard topics to talk about !! There seemed to be a lot of distortion on the last half an hour or so of the show which was I shame but I'm guessing thats just the problems you have not doing the show all in the same room

LastStandMedia

Thanks for joining up! I hope you take the time to check out the other content. More bang for your buck. =)

LastStandMedia

We record the show five feet from one another. LOL. There's no distortion that I'm hearing, or seeing in the waveform. What are you hearing? Is anyone else hearing distortion?

Gabriel Garcia

Way ahead of you. Been listening to all your content since Beyond to when KF was formed and most of your CLS stuff. I've also been catching up with anything I missed (that I was interested in). There is a lot of content but I could never get enough. I've already been listening to some of your new fireside chats and listening to some old ones from within the patreon app. The patreon podcast player is a little finnicky though. In one occasion the player would randomly pause and would restart the whole episode at times. However, I do love the feature to play things at 1/2 speed to see what y'all sound like when y'all are drunk. But PS is what got me into your content and Sacred Symbols (and the fact I can get it early) is what pushed me to give you the support you rightfully deserve. Keep it up, man :)

Petre Cismigiu

Thanks for reading my question, Col. Don't worry about the name lol, I did wonder how you would pronounce it :) goes something like cheesh-me-jew. So Peter is just fine lol. Amazing podcast once again. And stop being amazed at how well this does. You truly are a profesional, and one of the most knowledgeable when it comes to Playstation. Keep up the great work, sir.

Marc Boggio

Dead Cells is incredible - I’ve been playing it for a year on PC early access (I am a dork 😔). It’s a Castlevania-style Rogue-lite (run based, but with some progression, so it doesn’t feel like you’re wasting time). I suppose if you mixed Symphony of the Night, with a bit of Dark Souls and a dash of Spelunky, you’ll have a decent concept; but the combat and RPG-style damage types (fire, ice, bleed ect.) make it a joy to play.

Matthew Perry

Sorry Colin but I meant there was distortion on the KCC show not sacred symbols ! The sound quality on your shows have always been excellent :-)

Anonymous

I really think you two hit your stride in this episode. I very much enjoyed it.

Tony Colton

Another fuckin great episode 😊 you guys really sound like you've been rocking this podcast together for yrs. TLOU was my toughest Plat... Those online trophies were tough and too me months to get. On the theme side I've been rolling with the 20th anniversary theme since it was released and same on my Vita (#vitaisland) and think its a flawless theme

LastStandMedia

Strangely, I grinded TLoU online to get the Trophies there, but never beat it on the hardest difficulty. -_-

Tony Colton

As far as I remember you only need to do on hard and not crushing... Which in fact is quite easy on new game+ as you retain all upgrades

Kyle Snyder

I didn't really like Until Dawn at all, the writing was just bad...
