E3 2018: Ubisoft Press Conference Review -- CLS Side Quest

Unlike EA, with its annual disappointing E3 conference, or Bethesda, a publisher without the volume of content to justify an annual showing, Ubisoft typically shows up to E3 each year and does well in its presser. E3 2018 is certainly no different. Colin's Last Stand: Side Quest is free of baked-in ads, product placement, and other obnoxious forms of advertising because of your support. Can't speak for other hardcore Assassin's Creed fans but I haven't fatigued at all and I've played every single one of the AC games since the first. I may just be an outlier though since I find myself enjoying Ubisoft games more than any other games out there. I've spent more time on The Division, AC Origins and Ghost Recon Wildlands than all other games combined in the last 3 yrs.

I've never been an AC fan, Mario. However, Origins was AWESOME, and Odyssey looks to be just as awesome to me. I'm excited to play it!

I feel the same as Mario! As an Assassins Creed fan, I can say that Ubisoft has brought me back around in recent years. I’m not tired of the franchise. I couldn’t always say that. Right before AC took its “break” I was fatigued because I felt like the games coming out were not good at all. But the tides have been turning and I’m hungry for Odyssey. Colin, thanks for all content during E3. I know it’s a ton of work! <3

Having not played since AC3, would you recommend me jumping back in with Syndicate or Origins?

LastStandMedia

It's a ton of work for sure, but I'm taking a nice long vacation beginning at the end of the week, so it's all worth it. =) Thank you for watching!

I would suggest Origins, Syndicate was great but the combat and traversal weren't much different than previous iterations. From what I remember, it was the character movement and combat that didn't work for you in particular. Origins is enough of a departure that you may find it a much more enjoyable experience, especially with the added RPG elements.

I have to say I think this year would have been the best year to give Assassins Creed another break. Coming out right around Red Dead Redemption 2 in my mind is just dumb but what do I know. I do know for me I like assassins but because of the close proximity to Red Dead 2 I will be picking it up later on a sale. Division 2 has my interest also looks very nice and I also like how you can play solo.

Eric S

I don’t think it has very true. I just think it is going up against a heavy hitter in Red Dead 2. We shall see what the numbers end up being.

I'm an assassin's creed fan. I don't buy them on release but wait until the interest in playing another game hits, then I buy them. So I'm not tied at all to the release strategy. The weaker entries like 3 or Unity are what takes you down, not the schedule. I think the fatigue sometimes affects the developers as they run out of ideas. I'd say on average the games have a few chapters that could easily be cut. On the weak games that goes up, and that makes you wonder if it's time to stop. But the series is good at comebacks. Enjoying the videos. I didn't have the stamina to watch all the presentations. Its easier to watch the individual trailers.

2022-01-24 14:49:11 I may be misled, because marketing, but I really get the sense from Ubisoft and their press conference that they actually care about their customer and love what they do. They look real onstage and happy and I think that spirit bleeds into their games. Over the past few years they have really began to edge their way closer to being one of my favorite companies. Colin, like you, AC was never my bag, but Origins is well worth a look. It's extremely similar in many ways to The Witcher 3 with a fair bit less map bloat, engaging side quests, while doing an excellent job of making you feel like you're visiting a piece of history. Thanks for all your hard work this E3. My ritual so far has been to watch the actual conferences on YouTube, then follow each one with your commentary. This is my favorite E3 so far as far as media coverage goes thanks to your coverage. <3

Yes, but weak entries are delivered in the first place when you have your studios constantly cranking these games out. I think a breather would be wise, but AC fans seem smitten, so I guess that's what matters.

LastStandMedia

Thank you for your kind words. They mean a great deal. (Thank you for your recommendation, also.)

Peter Campbell

I agree that breathers would be better. For schedule I meant how you experience them as coming out, not the poor people trying to make it. (I know it was written vaguely.) To be honest, even though I'm a fan every three years would be better, to tighten it all up and make it great, as well as to lock down the game controls (always needs work). These games aren't very replayable due to the weak chapters and their slog, that doesn't exist with Rocksteady or Naughty Dog games, where replaying is fun. For business they like to crank them out but for quality, even for someone who likes the slog and knows the flaws, it's a killer.

Very impressed. I don't care about Assassins Creed at all, but I"m very interested in this game.
