Hey!

I usually don't write much more than a sentence when I post a video, but I'm going to make an exception today.

This is the first episode of CLS Prime since late January, and, as promised, I wanted to bring the show back when it made sense, with higher production value, to celebrate/examine something timely (in this case, today is D-Day's anniversary), and see if there was demand to keep CLS Prime around or not.

So, please watch the video, share it on social media media (if you can), and -- if you're reading this and you're not a Patron -- please consider joining up. Ultimately, the only way for me to know if this is a show worth doing every couple of months is if it "does well" both here on Patreon and on YouTube.

Feedback is welcome (so keep it coming!), but ultimately, the numbers will tell the tale, and while I'll never "cancel" the original show, it's going to go away for a more extended period of time if this episode -- which is longer than usual, was properly edited by a professional editor, etc. -- doesn't perform. If it does well, though, I'm aiming for August to do another episode. I already know what I want it to be about. =D

So let's see where things settle, and in the meantime, I thank you for your support, and hope all is well! -Colin

June 6, 1944: How D-Day Saved Europe -- Colin's Last Stand (Episode 63)

By June of 1944, it was finally time to halt Nazi Germany's conquest across the European continent. Doing so wouldn't be easy, though. Ending Adolf Hitler's Third Reich would require the perfect execution of the biggest, most complex, and most dangerous military operation in human history. This is the story of Operation Overlord. Haven’t watched it yet but I’m excited. I know the direction you’ve gone in is what you think is better for CLS, but what I enjoy most from you is your history content. I miss it

Tyler

Good work

Ty Dame

Fantastic job! How brave do you have to be, to be on the first boats landing? You have gotta know you are gonna get shot & likely die. Must have been horrifying.

Ian (616Entertainment)

Dude, I can’t wait to watch! Colin, I know you don’t thrive on self promotion and the like, but you have to know that NONE of us want CLS Prime to go anywhere. So we’ll do our part (come on, guys) but it probably wouldn’t hurt to nudge some of your more well known buddies to see if they’ll give it a blast as well! I’m sure they’d be more than happy to. Everyone in your circle respects and appreciates your content, and one of the best parts of being in a well rounded community is being able to count on your friends to spread the word. Just a thought! Now, if you don’t mind, I just pulled up to work. I’ll give this a watch in 8 hours, lol. Have a good one.

Looking forward to it.

Britton Dowers

I loved this Colin from the editing to how you explained D-Day. I hope this does well and I will be sharing it everywhere. Well done sir The only nitpick I have is the opening (which was amazing!). It was a little jarring of a transition from it to you talking. Not that you talking was bad, but it just threw me for a second.

Michael Gonzales

Colin, I have always felt that your storytelling has made historic event sound fascinating. As always keep up the great work!

Adam Niksch

I already watched it as it popped up on my YouTube feed a little unexpectedly this morning. It’s fantastic!! I love the new format! It really suits the show well. My grandpa was overseas during the invasion, but he never really spoke about his experiences. Because of this, I have no idea whether or not he was there for the actual invasion, but watching this made me grateful there were people like him who were able to actually pull this off. I really hope this video does well because I’ve missed these videos and am glad to have them back!

Rob Laycock

Very well made, as always. Thank you Colin.

I got major chills during that intro

Been missing CLS Prime vids. Loved this long-form political/historical content from Colin. Can't wait to watch it later when I get home from work and can give it the full attention it deserves!

Ryan Hurley

Thanks for a new episode of CLS Prime! I know going forward it's a numbers thing but I hope you keep in mind that you have a gift to portray historical events in an interesting and entertaining fashion that few others do. You of anyone know how important it is to learn from history, and I really feel like people can really learn from these videos. If it's more viewers that are needed then maybe we need to do a better job of sharing it, or some kind of marketing campaign, I'm not sure. The quality of the videos and their content speak for themselves, we just need more people to "find" them.

Marcus Brown

Great stuff man! I love the intro graphic really cool

Anonymous

Nice one! I loved it and it would be sad to see the history vids go but also can understand how time consuming creating a video like this might be.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! The reality is, I'll never kill this show. But the frequency of its release (or lack thereof) will be determined by this episode's numbers, and if it translates into Patreon support. I simply don't have the bandwidth to spend time on anything people aren't consuming, y'know?

LastStandMedia

Honestly, I want to see how this one does without any of that, because future episodes won't all have that same amount of push. We need to see if this episode sinks or swims, and that's it! Either way, though, I would never say this is the last episode, because I'm pretty positive it isn't. =)

LastStandMedia

Glad you like the editing! It's the first video of any kind I've released under the CLS banner that I didn't edit myself. As for the intro into the text, we actually had to change it last second, because there was music playing there that we got a copyright strike on. (Which was annoying to us, as the music was apparently free to use, but alas.)

Anonymous

Is this available to be shared on social media today? I know early access is important, but I would love to share this right now to Non-subscribers, and the anny of D-day is timely.

Anonymous

That being said.... I’m so glad that Prime is returning. I so hope this does well, and you can tell with the production values that this is truly more of a passion for you, personally. It is clearly evident.

Anonymous

I loved it. If the quality requires this to come out less often I'm more than happy with that. WWII is always a fascinating topic because I don't think you ever stop hearing new facts and stories. The detail and length also allowed the video to be a bit more encompassing than previous videos.

Anonymous

What an amazing video. Your insight always amazes me. I can really tell how much time and accuracy you put into lore pieces like this. WW2 is by far my favorite subject when delving into history. I've personally watched countless documentaries and shorts on WW2. This is right up there with the best. Great job, Colin!

Michael Renner

FUCK YES! So very awesome! I've been patiently waiting for CLS Prime. Thank you Colin. Love what you do and look forward to midterm related junk. Excellent work!

A.G.Rowe

This was a great episode Colin, thank you.

Anonymous

Absolutely spectacular! This may be my favorite thing you've done on CLS. Great job.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! I don't think you'll see more than an episode every two months or so, even if the video was killing (and it isn't). So, I think a staggered release schedule, whatever it might look like, will be what it is moving forward.

Michael Bonnano

Colin- This type of content is why I'm a Patreon supporter. I truly hope it doesn't go away. Excellent work.

Alex Ball

As a Veteran, I’m really grateful for this. Those men on Omaha Beach literally stared death in the face and fought through it. I love my country and its moments like this when I’m truly proud to be an American. It’s unfortunate that there’s not a lot in our current climate to be proud of: School shootings, Nazi’s running for politics, a baboon for a president, etc. Those men, and women, laid the foundation for us to thrive and we piss it away over trivial issues. I hope we can become a great country again, but until then all I can do is salute that flag and hope for the best.

Anonymous

Enjoyed watching that in the UK with a nice cold bottle of beer.

Owen

Everyone watch this thing man. Good stuff. Even if you're not doing it weekly anymore, even a monthly or quarterly vid would be sweet. Keep it up my dude.

Will Hahn

This video was fantastic! Very well edited and produced. The new intro was awesome and what a great topic to try and get back into the swing of things!

LiquidEnder

Damn good job sir, as an enthusiast of WWII

Anonymous

Phenomenal video, Colin! You've really contributed a huge amount to my learning and appreciation of history, politics, gaming, etc. If you ever find yourself in Kansas, the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene is truly remarkable, though quite literally in the middle of nowhere. Though its a museum dedicated to his presidency, it is heavily focused on his contribution to World War II and Normandy. The National World War I Museum in Kansas City is also a great experience, if you're ever in the area. Keep up the great work!

Chris B

Such a sad/wonderful topic to bring back cls prime. It still amazes me they were able to pull of the ultimate Hail Mary of military offensives

John Quinn

Excellent video! I really enjoyed it

Michael Morris

Awesome video. Honestly this is a better way to do these super informative videos, they get the love they deserve and then time to breath afterwards. Can’t wait for what you have planned next. Keep on learning Colin!

Peter Campbell

Terrific video. The pacing was terrific. Everything had impact. I loved the details of the build to d-day, and the two years before, as Italy and Africa in ww2 are fascinating in themselves.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! Based on how this video is performing, it's safe to assume I'd only do one of these every 2-3 months or so.

Anonymous

Awesome video, this is my favorite type of content you make. Definitely hope to see more of these every couple months. I'm off to go re-watch Band of Brothers.

Anonymous

This was a fantastic episode Colin. I went into it thinking it would be a return to the old CLS Prime content I miss and originally supported you for, and my expectations were blown out of the water in the first 30 seconds. If this is the quality you intend to put into CLS Prime going forward, I'm 100% sold on waiting a month or two between episodes.

BettyAnn Moriarty

So powerful and so nicely done, bud. Larry’s Dad was part of the invasion on Normandy and I’ve been told that although he rarely said anything about it, he did say that as an Army medic, they ‘set up’ right on the beach to care for the wounded/trying to save lives. It’s beyond my reasoning capabilities to even imagine how horrific it had to be.

Justin Matkowski

Personally, I love this format for CLS Prime. The longer episode and more prep time really allow your passion for history to shine through. WW2 topics always make me a bit emotional, as I can't help but think of mine and Helene's grandfather that served in the war; that smiling face who visited me and my sister daily when we were children, and the part he played in such a crucial time in Western Civilization's history. Fantastic work, Colin.

Tony Colton

Really excellent Colin!! Half way through there was maps popping up and I got a flashback of you using the whiteboard. This reminded me how amazing Band of Brothers is and when winter come around I'll definitely firing up those blu rays. Actually Band of Brothers would be a great knockback topic. Love the logo animation at the start

Megan Gierlach

Can you see views on Patreon, or the Apple podcast app? Or does only YouTube matter?

Jeff Pollard

Awesome job, Colin!! I hope this video does well because I'd really like to see more like this!!

Anonymous

Awesome video, great work!!

Steven Oslund

Really loved this video! I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about D-Day but I still learned quite a bit. I really hope this does well, and I'll do my best to help it, because I definitely want to see more stuff in this vein at a higher frequency. I'd especially love to see you tackle something like the Mexican-American War which I loved reading about as a kid. Also please remember to take a day off, you work too hard! Cheers <3

Benjamin

Great video Colin. Informative and enjoyable. I hope you got plenty of views and you do more CLS Prime videos. They are my favourite videos

Prince Borutski

I enjoyed the video. I think that it captured your original goal of showing people that good stories make history interesting. The added production made it crisp and easy to follow. I hope that you do another video like this when the time is right.

Craig

This video was utterly fantastic Colin. It's what I originally became a Patron for, to find out the stories behind the events. The parts of history that are woven into the fabric of society but the common person might not know the true story of. Really happy you brought back CLS Prime for this episode and look forward to the release in August if you go forward with it.

Jeff Palmer

Fascinating and very well done! I'd like to see more of this type of CLS Prime. My only suggestion would be to maybe offer a few breaks in the content where it maybe cuts back to you and you give a brief "recap" or "so what do we know at this point?" bits of commentary. Once or twice I found my focus drifting, and I think that some sort of pause would help. Anyway, keep up the great work!!

LastStandMedia

Thank you! If I'm being honest, knowing that I was having someone else edit it meant that I could really go balls out with the script without having to be horrified by the act of putting it all together.

LastStandMedia

Band of Brothers rules. =) Glad you liked the beginning logo. That was all Shane (the editor). I gave him the script and told him to do whatever he thought was best, and so he did!

LastStandMedia

Well, CLS Prime isn't available as a wide-release podcast, so those stats wouldn't exist. The audio plays from Patreon's app itself are viewable, but always broken/useless. So I really am judging this based on YouTube views.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! It's certainly not doing well at all, but those who watched liked it, so that's certainly a big piece of the equation.

LastStandMedia

Thank you for watching, and for your kind words! If a D-Day video on D-Day didn't do well, then I doubt a Mexican American War video would be the right direction to move in. We'll see, though.

LastStandMedia

Thank you! I think August is a good time to try again. We shall see. I'll have more to say in tomorrow's weekly update.

LastStandMedia

Thanks for your feedback, Jeff. Truth be told, I have little time to deal with CLS Prime, so I need to make it as time-efficient as possible, and that'll require me not being on camera at all.

Jeshua Anderson

That opening intro was DOOOPE!! I went back and watched it multiple times. It was like a stamp of "Don't forget, I am the PRIME channel!" LOVED the episode, and VERY well done! i REALLY hope it performs so we can get more of it.

Jonathan Rice

This was excellent. Very educational, well done. Hopefully it gets sufficient traffic to fuel some more prime episodes! Keep up the good work my friend

Chad Lewis

I'm so happy to see this again! i missed it so much.

Jimmy Valentine

My grandma found the original speech by Eisenhower handed out to soldiers. It belonged to her uncle, who was an immigrant that stormed Normandy and was killed in France. I'm honored to now be in possession of it. I'm going to frame it and pass it down to my kids.

Jimmy Valentine

I also loved the end song. Great upgrade. 👍

Joey Rawlings

Please continue the CLS Prime content! I really enjoyed this and missed the historical videos!

Anonymous

Must admit got a buzz when I saw a new prime video in the feed. Everything I've come to expect, informative, heart felt and very well put together. Keep up the great work, always enjoy the Colin historical perspective.

Christian Doolan

Hi Colin, you have made a great video here. I’m glad to hear you’re not too disheartened about the viewing numbers not measuring up. I don’t watch much of this type of content from you but it would be weird to not see you producing these going forward. I want to support all the work you make even if I am very much part of the 91%. Keep on doing what you love doing mate!

Bryan Finck

Really loved the episode Colin, timely and meaningful, the pro video editing was a great touch, and the longer length is very enjoyable. I wish the numbers were better because this is a great format for Prime to come back. Keep going with it!

LastStandMedia

Thanks. One thing is almost certain: I'll probably never edit another CLS Prime myself. =)

Joey Finelli

Colin, thank you for making this video. Our grandfather passed away on June 7th at the age of 98. He was a WWII veteran who loved talking about D-day and how thankful the people of France were to the allies. He would have loved watching this video very much.

Chris Coose

So, over 15K views as of this post. What's the consensus going forward Colin? Please keep up this amazing work in my humble opinion!

Kam Wallis

Excellent episode, nothing gives me chills like the history of WWII, probably from listening to my Great-Grandfather talk about his time as a PoW in Poland, and the march to Berlin after being liberated by the Soviets. I always look forward to what you're doing with CLS Prime, and hope you continue your work. We're always behind you.
