How to Remove A President Using the 25th Amendment -- Colin's Last Stand (Episode 27)

Lose an election. Term-out. Resign. Get impeached. Die. Those were the only ways a President could leave office until 1967, when the 25th Amendment to the Constitution was passed, opening up a new avenue for the Vice President, Cabinet, and Congress to remove a man or woman unfit for office. But where did this Amendment come from, what does it specifically say, and could it ever actually happen? This video finally made me understand what was happening in Air Force One when they tried to remove Harrison Fords character from the office.

So when Trump got elected I was almost positive that the GOP would be planning some way to oust him and replace him with Pence... since he's pretty much doing whatever the GOP wants, I'm now positive they wouldn't want to remove him because Pence would just be farther to the right then the GOP really wants.... And now the media is trying to get it to happen by floating rumors that the Democrats are attempting to get this done. This is ludicrous in my opinion, because there is no way the Democrats want Pence in the Oval either. We're "stuck" for 4 years (and if the Democrats don't get their shit together, it's gonna be 8) - So the media really should drop this, but it's the media... we know it's not gonna happen. -- Good stuff as always Colin. Keep on learning.

Also since we mentioned Ronald during this - next topic election I'm going to nominate "Why the fuck do old people love Reagan so much?" Everything I've read on his presidency makes him read as awful to me.

More about production. Audio quality could be improved, theme quality is great and loud, then all of a sudden when you come in you're way quieter. Also, couldn't help but notice the weight being put on, just be careful man, I know how much you've been talking about eating out lately.

Really enjoyed this. I find the minutia of politics endlessly fascinating. Also this video looked fantastic. I don't believe the framing and lighting has been better. Nice changes!

Top notch Colin! And Designated Survivor is a fantastic show.

The video looks A LOT better and I like that you are sitting closer to the camera. Keep it up!!!

Very interesting episode Colin!

Man, I always just assumed that the VP was the president if any of this came to pass, no questions asked. In fact, I think I always assumed that the VP's chief duty was to succeed the president if anything happened. Keep on learning indeed.

BettyAnn Moriarty

Learned SO much - again! 👍🏻 Keep on learning- indeed.

To answer your question you really have to read different sources I'd suggest. Like if you talk to most people who actually lived in that era they LOVE Ronald like my Dad and Mon but a lot of the left hates the dudes guts which is why you might be reading essentially propaganda about the guy but he was to put it shortly Amazing. (Or at least his cabinet and operations were) He crushed his opponents in the elections because he was one hell of an eloquent communicator. He's referred to as "the great communicator" for how well he put his ideas and expressed them to the public. Had a deep reverence for Americana and wasn't a politician necessarily but someone who had definitive ideas of right and wrong and could get people to follow him. But let's just list a few great things. 5. Helped preside over one of the most prosperous eras in America in history. People will remember good times and who led them through it. 4. Cutting back heavy regulations which in manny cases was good. 3. Having excellent foreign policy which was especially evident in his handling of situations both directly and indirectly through and much in need of bolstering US forces. 2. Surviving an assasination attempt. And if even non of the other stuff happened and only this was to happen it alone would make him great. 1. Defeating the Russians and communism worldwide while also ending the cold war and freeing Eastern Europe. That last one is alone an amazing reason why he was great. While he may not have been the only reason strategically he realized that his enemies were sceptible to attack at that time and used it to effectively end the Cold War. Compare this to Obama and how he responded during the whole of the Arab Spring with almost 0 strategical acumen or how even the Green Uprising in Iran was so fruitless when Obama should have used it to end our decades long conflict with Iran. This gives a good breakdown too https://www.quora.com/Why-do-conservatives-treat-Ronald-Reagan-like-a-god/answer/Stephen-Poole-5?share=b0d58c39&srid=C0OP

I appreciate the rundown, and there was admittedly some hyperbole when I said "everything" as well as "awful" - mainly just because it seems like no one wants to see his faults because of thigns like communism which was the biggest deal for the previous 20 years. - I try to read both sides of the story as much as I can. The thing I think conservatives gloss over though. Tripling the deficit, increasing the size of the federal government (which conservatives claim to have issues with), immigration amnesty, giving weapons to Iran... Like I feel like they put him on this pedastal when theres plenty he did wrong too. Thats what I've never understood. - Now I'm neither a conservative or liberal, so maybe I'm able to see the good and the bad while conservatives just see the good, and liberals just see the bad.

I'm not so sure that the GOP wouldn't want (or would be worse off with) Mike Pence. I think many in the party, and many independent Americans (like me) would much prefer a sane, further right person in the office than the slightly insane moderate. Glad you enjoyed the video!

LastStandMedia

I'm actually a fan of Reagan's, and I'd love to do a video (or videos) on him in the future... though I will need to figure out my angle(s).

LastStandMedia

Not really sure you need to comment on my weight. I had a guy come in to work on video today. We ordered new audio-related equipment today as well (24 foam panels to dampen echo, a Shure microphone with a stand and cover, and an XLR cable). So I suspect audio will be different (and hopefully markedly better) beginning on Episode 30. You should see a continued difference in the video quality beginning on Episode 28 (the shot is "cooler" as opposed to "warmer" now... lots of little adjustments made in the camera and with the lights that I think make a positive difference).

LastStandMedia

Thank you! More adjustments have already been made to the video that will make the shot less warm, and hopefully we'll continue to evolve everything to make it look better.

Kam Wallis

You're absolutely right, but it only comes from caring, supported you from day one. Keep up the great work, I always enjoy everything you do.
