Please welcome David Jaffe back to Sacred Symbols+ for another episode of Moriarty x Jaffe. Today, Jaffe and I (Colin) have a lengthy chat about a myriad of topics, beginning with a solid 30 minutes of random non-games talk on topics like UFOs and Father's Day (so skip ahead a bit if you'd like). But we ultimately settle into a rhythm and get into the meaty subjects you're likely more accustomed to here on +. For instance: Why does Sony appear to many to have an unusual obsession with Horizon? Is the PlayStation brand focusing too much on a protagonist, in particular, that many players seem to dislike? Then: Many new games were announced during Summer Games Fest, and a lot of them look great. So why does it feel like so many of them are destined to fail? After that: Xbox had what has widely been considered the best games showcase of the entire generation, with plenty of promising fare on display. But is it too little, too late to change the downward trajectory of the console? And is Microsoft exactly where Sony will end up in the end, anyway, just earlier? Finally: What's PlayStation's near-to-mid-term look like? Are they making the right bets? Or will an unexpected future ultimately put the brand on its back foot?
