Too Big to Succeed | Sacred Symbols, Episode 304

Embracer Group's downfall will be long-studied as an example of capitalistic hubris you rarely see, even in our ruthlessly capitalist society. Following mass layoffs, spin-offs, and studio closures, Embracer will ultimately split into three smaller, more manageable entities, instead of acting as a lone unit with more employees than the entire PlayStation brand, including all of its studios combined (seriously). It's just another example of people in positions of power somehow knowing less about their industry, the economy, and business than completely random people that do a video game podcast. Other news: Stellar Blade's "Hard R" controversy, the permanent closure of LittleBigPlanet's UGC servers, the cultural revival of the Fallout franchise on the back of a successful Amazon show, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! How do we feel about Ubisoft's apparent abandonment of the Watch Dogs franchise? Are gaming cookbooks the new rage? Can you be a fan of video games without actually playing them? Will British people ever acknowledge Americans' acumen with a map? Follow the hosts on Twitter! In regard to the convo about being a fan of video games, if you no longer play football as an a daily but watch games and listen to podcasts about it are you also no longer a fan of football?

PRETENTIEUX

It's not a great comparison in my opinion. If you ask someone if they like football, everyone knows you aren't asking them if they actually play it. Most football fans have probably never played the game seriously. It's the same thing with movies, though. "Do you like movies?" just means do you like to watch them. You don't have to star in movies or direct them to be a fan. With gaming, when someone asks if you like video games or you tell them that you are a fan of video games, it is implied that you actually play them. The context is the important part. I don't think it's a big enough deal to warrant some kind of new word or category, though.

Lmao. Listening to Colin talk about how he claims to know a lot about the history of Great Britain, England, Scotland was pathetic. He clearly is ignorant. Saying Scotland/United Kingdom is the same as people identifying with New york/ Long Island instead of the US is such a stupid comparision. I don´t mind people that are not knowledgeable about complex subjects such as this, but he is claiming to be an expert when nothing could be further from the truth.

Dustin, I really liked my persona 5 collectors edition. I use the school bag as an overnight bag all the time.

Really curious as to what you guys have to say about the Helldivers nonsense.
