For the first panel not only are there a lot of specific shadows but there is also one big ambient shadow cast over the entire scene make it more realistic.  In real life nothing is completely bright or dark.  I get that adding some light makes practical sense for the viewer, so I tried to add as much darkness as I could without obscuring anything important.

Ironically I hate evil, even in fiction, unless it is in hentai.  I’ve thought about this for years and it still doesn’t make complete sense to me.  When a character does an evil smirk in hentai, it’s one of my biggest turn-ons, but outside of hentai it is one of my biggest turn-offs.  Anyways the parasite here has an evil smile because it’s hot.  The teeth blending with the “skin” tells us this parasite has a hard exoskeleton.
