I said before that vicariously we partly subconsciously enjoy this sort of thing because of the excitement of sneaking and playing hide and seek, but I realized that also includes the excitement of being caught or getting away with sneaking, which taps into a more primordial sense of success and failure.  Through imagination and fantasy like this we can safely simulate these strong emotions.
