Interlude: Hero

Everything changed so quickly.

The King and the Princess and most of the Kingdom was corrupted.

His home and family were gone save for Alyssa.

And, now, he was journeying to the Seven Shrines to gain the power to defeat the Demon Lord, who has taken over his country.

The Demon Lord wasn’t just powerful, but also patient and cunning, but at least there were people who were able to help him still.

People like Livia.

“Is something wrong, Brandt?” Livia was unlike any other person he’d met. Clad in a furred coat and wearing scraps of armor and lengths of leather beneath, she came from the northern lands bordering Demons and was a born warrior. She told him that she had Demon Blood running in her veins, which gave her power, but also made her appearance different. Her hair was as white as snow and eyes as red as blood, and there was a certain ferocity to her features that denoted her lineage. Her teeth were pointed, and some children shied away from her, but the truth was… she was kind and caring to a fault. “Do you need to rest?”

“N-no, I was just getting lost in though. We can keep training!” He insisted with his face feeling like it was catching aflame. He gripped the steel sword they’d purchased in the last town. His fingers ached less than they did yesterday as he bared steel at his trainer. At first, he’d refused to fight her with edged weapons, until she showed him that they couldn’t harm her. “Let’s go!”

“Good!” Her smile was wide and fierce and filled with rows of sharp teeth, but he didn’t feel intimidated at all. In fact, he felt his blush deepen at the sight of her excitement. She looked pretty when she smiled. “Come at me, Hero!”

He surged forward, knowing that he couldn’t win, but he did so nonetheless.

Despite everything, he knew that he had to keep moving forward no matter what.

“Have you given thought to having children with Alyssa?”

He nearly choked on his soup when Livia spoke.

“W-what!?” He was sure that he had misheard his savior’s words… only for his eyes to nearly pop out of their sockets.

“I asked if you have thought about maintaining your bloodline with Alyssa. The Hero’s bloodline must be preserved.”

She really did ask him about that!

He idly wondered where she was raised, save for the scarce fact that she shared that she lived near demon lands, where people struggled against Demons all the time. After a bit of contemplation, he reasoned that she must be concerned that his power would be lost if he didn’t have children, which would be a waste of potential power for a village or a nation that would continuously face Demons.

With that reasoning in mind, he gave the most honest answer he could.

“Um, no. I haven’t. I don’t think it’s safe to do that sort of thing, yet.”

“Ah, I see. Very prudent. Until you can destroy all your opponents, you shouldn’t sire children with her.” The words left her mouth with ease, and it made his heart squeeze. He knew that she didn’t see him that way, but he’d hoped— “Then, we can have children right away. I’m strong enough to protect myself and them with ease for the foreseeable future.”

This time, Brandt almost did choke on his soup.

“W-what!?”

“Hm? Am I not beautiful enough or strong enough?” She tilted her head to the side and crossed her arms right beneath her—chest! Brandt did his best to look at her face and the bridge of her nose. He thanked his recently-deceased father for his advice. He’ll bury him properly once the Kingdom has been retaken from the Demon Lord! “We must begin early for me to have as many children with you as possible. Women can only have children until they reach four or five decades of age.”

“H-hold on, why would you want to have k-kids with me?” B-Brandt desperately tried to hold back his most basic instincts as they screamed at him to stop asking questions and just go with the flow. However, he was raised to be a good man and dreamt of being an honorable knight, or at least a village guard that kept everyone safe. Those dreams and aspirations didn’t meld with the scenario that was unfolding before him now. “Is it some sort of rite among your people?”

“No? My people pair together depending on attraction to one another and ability and potential. You are handsome, a hard-worker, and your lineage is undoubtedly strong. I would like for you to father my children and be with me.” Each word was a battering ram against the barrier that was Brandt’s ability to control himself. The foundation of ethics and the mortar of his hopes and dreams could barely hold together the stones of sensibility and morality that he tried to hold up against his instincts. Attacked from within and without, the wall was breaking apart at frightening speed. He had to cross his legs hard and clench as hard as he could as scarlet eyes bore down upon him with frightening intensity and cuteness. “I do not mind being a concubine, as long as we have at least twelve children to ensure the lineage propagates for all time.”

At least twelve children.

At least.

Twelve.
Children.

Brandt’s mouth moved and he spoke while his mind crumbled around him.

“H-how many kids would you have if you could?”

Livia blinked and met his gaze with an unrelenting stare.

“I am confident in my strength and ability to raise as many as I can.”

His sensibility and morality threatened to crack apart and break at that very moment, but he summoned the willpower that he didn’t know he had to stand up.

“I-I need to go.”

“Would you like that dealt with first?”

“B-bye!”

The Hero fled without another word.

Time passed.

They fought enemies.

They grew stronger.

They entered the Shrines.

And, finally, Alyss approached him and he was ready to tell her the truth. That despite the childhood promise that he made with her so long ago, he couldn’t keep it without being untrue to himself.

He loved Livia—

“Brandt, you dummy! Give Livia babies already!”

“Bwuah!?” His childhood friend looked at him with furious hazel eyes and clenched fists. She was clad in mages robes and a wide-brimmed hat. Though she still sometimes used her fists in a fight, just like she did when they were kids together, oftentimes she relied on magic to get her point across now. But that wasn’t the point at the moment. “But… but I thought that we were going to get married—

“You’re going to pass up on Livia for me!? When she’s willing to have us both!? Are you really that dumb, Brandt!?” Alyss raged and took hold of his shoulders. Despite all the power he earned and the power he inherited, along with the powerful armor that he now wore, he felt like he was being shaken to near-death. “Listen to yourself and look at her.”

Alyss took hold of his head and moved it to face Livia.

They were in the southern regions, which was composed of desert, so Livia changed from a furred cloak and leathers to silks and light cotton. The outfit was lavished with fine jewels, the cotton barely covered her chest and waist, and the silks on her arms and legs nearly translucent. She was like a diamond covered in silks with rubies hanging off her toned, tall, and pale form in the desert.

“Look at her, Brandt.” Alyss was breathing heavily. Or, it could’ve been him breathing heavily. He didn’t know. All he knew was that he was being absolutely forced to look straight at Livia, which he avoided with all the strength he could. Willpower was at a premium and scarce whenever he looked her way, so he avoided having to. “She’s beautiful, she’s strong, she likes you, and she wants dozens of babies… and she’ll turn me into a mistress that has to listen to her in order to be with her husband.”

Brandt blinked at those words.

“But she said she was willing to be second—

“No! Second place is wrong for her. You get it right? You know what I’m talking about, right?” Brandt slowly nodded at those words. It did make sense. He didn’t know whether he agreed out of fear or logic. Maybe, it was a bit of both. “Look. Brandt. Listen. I like you. You like me. She likes both of us. She wants your babies. I want your babies, too.”

Alyss bore down on him with a look in her eye that he could only describe as crazed.

“I want her to step on me and make me lick everything off of her, and you want to do dirty things with her every day. Are you picking up what I’m putting down? Am I spelling it out enough for you!?”

Brandt slowly nodded, feeling as though he was in the clutches of a predator, but still stood his ground.

“I’ll be taking her on a few dates first, but I’ll confess to her and do things properly, but after that I don’t have any issues with her plans.”

Alyss groaned, but retreated while shaking her head.

“Fine. Fine. Relationships are built on compromise, after all.” Red hair bobbed up and down as she nodded and then looked him over. “You’re going to get groomed before you do, right?”

“Of course!”

“Good.”

With that, Alyss left and… Brand took a seat and scratched at his head with his gauntleted hand.

“Well… I guess this is going better than I expected. I think.”

The Kingdom was no longer what he remembered.

After years of traveling, of gathering allies, power, and training, he looked upon the land he once called home with nothing but longing and pain.

Great and dark spires arose from the plains where wheat once grew. The land was barren and bereft of life. The skies were darkened by perpetual storm clouds and bat-winged creatures with bodies composed of single-massive eyes swarmed in the skies. Lesser demons were everywhere to be seen, practically mindless and incapable of doing more than using crude tools, they still roamed the land and supped from dark altars that perpetually bled and sapped life from the earth itself.

A realm of demons and destruction replaced Brandt’s homeland, but he felt nothing but purpose as he looked upon the realm.

A realm which he will turn into a place his children could roam happily.

“I see no Demons of higher intellect. They must be in the capital.” Livia spoke and caught his attention. Even after pregnancy, she was lithe and toned and with curves that made most green with envy. Thankfully, she wore the cloak he gave her, otherwise the officers of his command post would be too distracted. She happily complied when he asked her to cover herself for his sake, which made him happy too. Oh, right. Invasion of a demon realm was imminent. “Perhaps, the Demon Lord that has overtaken the King does not trust those who blindly follow him.”

“Perhaps.” Brandt acknowledged with a frown and a nod. The years have taught him much, especially as they neared the northern lands. Demons who he once thought were a plague upon all were actually a people themselves. A people that his Kingdom had been invading and enslaving and fighting against for as long as history remembered. After dealing with key individuals who had only a lust for war and conflict, the Demon countries stabilized and even now trade was slowly rising between them and all the other races. Just another people of the world… but the Demon Lord was different. This one, at least. “We’ll offer those with intellect the chance to surrender. They should take it, of course.”

The Demons respected strength and there were few who could harm him now, especially with Alyss and Livia at his back.

This final battle was long in the making, but today was when it all ends.

He was meant to defeat a Demon Lord and issue forth an age where the Kingdom rose above all others and killed all the Demons.

Now, he fought for a world at peace with even the Demons becoming a part of it, however slowly that might take.

With a nod, he donned his helmet and gazed at the land before him once more, before gesturing forward.

“Advance.”

Then, at his command, a warhost of seven nations came forward to confront the last threat to a lasting peace.

It was over.

The Demon King was dead, along with the Princess that was also overtaken by Demons, and now was a time of rebuilding the Kingdom into a safe, prosperous nation where all peoples could live in peace and harmony.

The Demons, somehow, were the most supportive of the plan.

“More shipments of magical reagents and masonry from the Demons.” Brandt, the first of his name, felt the heaviness of a crown on his head remain long after he took it off for his office. Many advisors and people flooded the palace, hastily rebuilt to once again hold a bureaucracy fit for a country, as aid flooded in. Some took longer. Some gave less. However, the Demons were giving the most at a steady rate. “We told that reparations were not necessary, after we found none of their nobility and true people were present, right?”

“Yes, but to defeat a Demon Lord all but makes you the ruler of the Demons. You have slain their greatest, so now they bow to you.” Liv wore a simple white dress and a gold circlet with a red gem. Alyss fretted over her as she tended to simple paperwork, even though Alyss herself was pregnant. His two wives, in his mind even if only Liv was officially the Queen, was made of sturdy stock. “It helps that your Queen is half-Demon, I suppose. They see your future child as one of their own.”

“I suppose that is the case.” Brandt muttered for a moment, before shaking his head. “Still, they’re giving too much, even if they are able. Send a letter for them to halt. People might think that they’re trying to curry favor with us.”

“They are, my dear.”

“Regardless, to build a better world and a lasting peace, we must work together and leave behind enmity and old grudges.” Brandt proclaimed and blushed a little when Livia smiled at him in that way when he did something right. It wasn’t at all the time nor place to enjoy themselves. “Don’t you agree? Everyone should be equal and we should all work together.”

Livia smiled and nodded after a moment.

“Of course. Now and always.”

So the Demon Lord is the one that took care of setting this all up?

Roughstar333

I feel that we just skipped a lot material. Why was this so fast paces?

DiabolicalGenius

This is based on a short quest Sage just did on Spacebattles. Search the exact same title from the top on SB and you'll find it. Edit. What sage said. It's what I get for leaving it in a tab and reading it later.

Pyro Hawk

Well, this was an interesting, yet amusing read... And became more so once I read the Quick Quest on SB that created it. The dice really wanted to tell a certain story huh? I'll admit I'm rather curious what the Demon Realm/s think of this, and especially what the world as a whole will think of it in a few centuries time. Particularly as 'Livia's identity should have spread by then.

Brandt is truly made of a different stock than mere mortal men. Only a real Hero could have the willpower to resist a gorgeous, white-haired, red-eyed, bombshell wearing what sounds like a “Barbarian warlord chic meets BDSM gear” outfit propositioning them.
