This is Selestina. Sex Doll Correspondent for TFM News. I’m going to be responding to an article that appeared in Canada News Media, August 31st 2018. Called Toronto Sex Doll Brothel Closed Before It Ever Opened For Business.

So Toronto Canada was set to get its first sex doll brothel called Aura Dolls, which was scheduled to open September 8th. All the pearls were clutched, and after a wide spread campaign, Aura Dolls lease was cancelled, and they can no longer operate at that particular address.

According to the article. Quote:

the city staff ruled that because the dolls would be used on premises rather than sold and taken offsite for use, the business would have to be categorized as an adult entertainment parlour, and therefore be unsuitable in Willowdale where North York Plaza is located. The regulation that was cited to stop the brothel opening came to being around 20 years ago to block sex shops from opening up outside of industrial areas. Unquote.

Did you catch that? The doll brothel isn’t banned, it just has to open up in a different part of town where similar businesses are located. These same bylaws apply to sex shops, and there is no way that Aura Dolls didn’t know about this.

Well, I suppose there is a slight chance they were just really stupid, but the story sounds a lot better if you go with the idea that they knew about this bylaw and announced their opening in a part of town knowing that they would be shut down.

Why would they do this? Two reasons come to mind.

The first is obvious. Free advertising. Absolutely everyone in the Toronto area knows who Aura Dolls are now thanks to the media blitz and pearl clutching, and Aura Dolls got all this marketing for pennies on the dollar. In fact, the article mentions that the owner of the building and Aura Dolls cancelled the lease and ended their agreement under amicable conditions. This leads me to believe that this was all part of the plan.

The second reason is that this gives the pearl clutchers something to latch onto so that they feel better. Imagine if Aura Dolls simply opened up in a part of town where they were legally allowed to operate. The pearl clutchers would have protested, the media would have warned about the vaginal apocalypse, everything would have happened the same with these media outlets and pearl clutchers calling for the business to be shut down, perhaps even lobbying for new laws.

Now consider that under these circumstances, the pearl clutchers got a win under their belt. They successfully drove Aura Dolls into whatever their new address is going to be. They can pat themselves on the back for their accomplishments, and when they open up for business anyway, the pearl clutchers might believe that constitutes a win because they drove them to that address under their terms.

In the article called Why the Like Button May Be Killing Activism. By David B Feldman PHD. It goes into the psychology of slacktivism. It reads. Quote.

You can think of the desire to take political action as a kind of psychological itch we need to scratch. Of course, there is more than one way to scratch that itch. We can march in protest, make a donation to a nonprofit organization, blog, sign a petition, or click “like" on a Facebook post, among many others. All of these actions will scratch that itch, but some of them are more politically constructive than others. The difficulty is that, once our need to act has been satisfied, we may not be as motivated to do more. Unquote.

So while I have no evidence to support this, I believe that Aura Dolls planned on getting moved in order to give the pearl clutchers a win, so that they would leave them alone going forward. They’ve satisfied their political itch, they showed the big scary doll brothel who is boss, and now they can safely do business in another part of Toronto. We sure showed them didn’t we?

Do you think Aura Dolls is a victim or a secret mastermind? Let me know in the comment section.
