The first story is definitely an incapability. Because y'all talking about how Justin loved what you suggested just shows trust and willingness/compromise. I'm responsible for cooking in my relationship and I don't cook something I know he doesn't like or eat unless he agrees, it's all about communication. Also I hate how the wife used the "I'm your wife excuse", cheap shot. Like that title can be removed so easily, how about you take some accountability.

for the second story, being from a culture that is like that, marriage is based so much in religion than necessarily building a strong foundation of love and communication, that just isn't commonly taught to us while growing up, our families will just assume we'll learn it without actually understanding it. I grew up with parents that have never been in love, they have no idea that the only way love keeps going with solid communication and effort. I've learned that here in the US, more than I ever did at home.

the separate lives comment is very valid, I'm from the middle east so not 100% the same as what OP is going through, but I can definitely say that is how my parents have been, separate lives save for us kids.

I so relate to Justin in the first story. I was raised not exposed to a lot of food and pestering depends on the person, relationship and my mood lol. It’s kind of a control/anxiety thing for me. I’ve only been exposed to a lot of food by accident or other people pestering though…its a delicate balance

the first story is the reason why i will NEVER marry someone i haven’t lived with for at least a year !!!
