I used to enjoy this movie despite some uncomfortable scenes, but it becomes pretty unwatchable once you learn about the director. The reason Leon never explains to Matilda why what she wants is wrong is because the director, Luc Besson, really likes having sex with children and thinks it is good and okay. This movie is his fantasy where he is trying to show that adult/child relationships are okay sometimes. He is a pervert. The prostitute at the beginning of the movie? Was played by the director's wife. They started met when she was 12 and he was 29. He says they waited till she was 15 to start dating - this just happens to be the local age of consent. He married her when she got pregnant at 16. He says their relationship inspired Leon. In the original screenplay, there is a sex scene between Matilda and Leon. Natalie Portman's parents said no fucking way. Listen, the performances in this movie are amazing - Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and especially tiny Natalie Portman. Many of the scenes are awesome. But in the end it is one man's gross fantasy about fucking a twelve year old and I wish people would stop voting for it.

Another really good movie about a hitman with strict rules is "The Killer (2023)". It's directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven, Zodiac, etc), and it's really fun.

Excellent film that definitely has a surprisingly amount of rewatch value towards it, i think the uneasy, and unnecessary sexual tension keeps it from being a perfect 10, but I still think the movie is overall great. It’s a perfect way to be introduced to Jean Reno, he’s done a lot of movies all over the world, but this is probably his most iconic role, check him out in “Ronin” with Robert DeNero. Excellent film. This was Natalie Portman’s first movie, she did an excellent job, and would go on to great things after this. “Black Swan” is a trippy movie she was in, “Annihilation” is very underrated. Of course Gary Oldman nearly steals the show as the unhinged crooked cop. The fact he can play so many good roles like a chameleon just shows how good of an actor he is. A good movie he was in that often get overlooked is “Romeo is Bleeding”. Also you need to finish up The Dark Knight Trilogy soon. It’s been a while since you seen the last movie.

damn.. that's quite something ... in response to Mateo, or rather a point.. Marlon Brando.., revered for his work.. Last Tango in Paris... that butter rape scene was not in the script.. it was his idea and Maria was sexually assaulted on screen.. very uncomfortable to watch... not exactly a rewatchable, but ... i dont know what point i was making.. but I think these are facts that should be known. thanks OP.. Jean Reno was very against the sexual nature of their relationship too, he was protective over Portman and had them change Leon's character so he was more naive, simple and sheltered.

I haven’t seen this since I was young. I didn’t notice the pedo vides then. Definitely uncomfortable to watch now. Thanks for the back story of director. It would have been such a great movie without creepy parts. But for sure last time I will watch it.

read up on the director.. he had a relationship with a teen when he was 31, pretty much Leon was a fantasy of his on film. also some other nasty stuff. Great movie though if you can put that kind of stuff aside.
