know this is late but I just love the hell out of this movie, which is based on one of my favorite books. It is basically a commentary omaterialism and the idea of collective identity. If you notice how everyone look the same, everyone gets confused with everyone, no one has their own identity in this movie. The business card scene is awesome because if you notice, they all have the same job and the same phone number. I dont believe that Patrick is a single character but an idea, he basically could be anyone. I also love how everyone is so focus on superficial shit that they totally ignore how insane this guy is. In the book he brings up so many random and creepy things into conversations but no one catches it or gets it confused with something else. It's brilliant. Also the scene of Willem Dafoe was shot three different ways. The director asked Willem to act three different ways: one of Kimball having no suspicions towards Patrick, one of him suspecting Patrick and one of him having doubts. Which is why it looks a little jarring so if you see if from Patrick's perspective it leaves you questioning what he knows. I do think hes killed people and that part with the lawyer about meeting Paul Allen in London is great because they have been confusing people the entire movie lol. He even confused Patrick with Davis. The thing about Paul Allen's apartment to me is mostly a commentary about people covering horrors for the superficiality. I love the ending because he realized that it doesnt matter, the inside doesnt matter, he confessed and it doesnt matter. So he can keep going. I always suggest to people to listen to the audiobook instead of reading it because its an experience, just beware that its very graphic.
