The only weakness of this creature is that it didn't have the ability to change itself rapidly , had it been able to do that then it would have been the perfect alien.

The ending will grow on you over time. I usually don't like open-ended endings but in this particular case, I feel John Carpenter didn't want sequels (he was already doing the Halloween series) and he wanted this one and only film to sit with people for a very long time... I'd say mission accomplished. The ending was perfect for a horror film - no "definitive" conclusion. But horrible in the truest sense of the word, horrific and horrifying. The tension that was done so perfectly throughout the film, which is exactly what everyone appreciates about this film, remains. No happy endings over here.
