Im so grateful for the reaction to this movie. My brother who has now passed away from cancer was ten years older than me. He was 18 back in 1978 and he was reading this book. I wanted to do everything my big brother did, so when he was finished with the book I snuck in and took it and read that book at eight years old. I proceeded to be a hysterical mess of emotions of course, but I was a veracious reader and couldnt stop myself from reading it. He was so upset with me for reading it, but also so proud that I was not only able to read it, but finished it through the tears. I miss my big brother so much, and I sobbed through this entire movie. Strangely the scene that really wrecked me was when they were combing their hair and getting themselves all fixed up when they realized their families would be seeing them. Such a human reaction in such absolutely inhumane conditions. Its just an incredible story...
