I was flying over New Haven with Daeva, keeping my power extended to see the world in a grayscale.

Daeva had good vision, but it wasn’t great in the dark.

New Haven was darker than the nights in the city; there were no lights for miles. Everything depended on the moon for light, and it was only a thin crescent in the sky as I carried Daeva through the air.

“So, you think that Roach is getting around at night?” She asked me.

“Something like that. It seemed odd to me that no guards have reported anything, especially now that they know what to watch.

Putting that together with the fact that the fly guard was on night duty, it just fits. Roach is trying to keep a low profile and the night guard was the only one that was necessary.” I explained my logic.

Daeva hummed in agreement. “The nights are pretty boring. Mostly, they are a handful of men of the night finding their way home or to a new client.”

“That common?” I asked.

“The ratio is worse here, and many of the ladies are starving for attention because of their mutations. Yes, they happily pay for the company of a man. Which is… a little different now that Stella has taught me things.” She hesitated and checked my face for any expression to give her a hint as to how I felt.

“Interesting. Does it change how you feel about the practice?” In scanning the city below, I was able to blanket large sections of it and keep track of far more than I would have before the monster fruit.

I could easily keep watch from my current location.

“Sort of? It sounds a little messier than I thought before. So, mostly, I just want to get them showers.” She shrugged.

I chuckled. “Showers are wonderful, but I think I like your baths better. They’re less expedient and sometimes we need to slow down.”

“Yes. Slow down.” Her eyes drifted from mine to my lips with a little longing.

I wrapped her tightly in my power and brought her close enough that she could lean in and seal the kiss if she wanted.

She hesitated, and there was a moment I wasn’t sure if she’d lean forward or not.

But then she pressed her lips roughly to mine with her hand on my heart.

The kiss did get my heart beating as she savored it, kissing me slowly and carefully.

Pulling at her hip, I pressed our bodies together and tangled my other hand in her hair to direct her head.

It became more hot and heavy as Daeva sped up, her eagerness growing with the kiss.

“Ah.” She sighed. “That was nice.”

“Not very slow at all.” I teased.

“I started slow.” She frowned.

Kissing her cheek, I chuckled against her skin. “It was lovely. You are lovely Daeva.”

Her cheeks flushed, and I didn’t need to check to know her heart was beating faster as she smiled. “Again?”

“I very much want to, but we have someone walking around down there. Let’s check on them; we can pass the time between people with some making out.”

Floating us both down, I found the man I’d felt with my power and watched as he hurried into an alley and fixed his toga before tasseling his hair a few times. Then he took out a wet rag that went straight into his toga to wipe himself down.

I was pretty sure he wasn’t a problem, but I landed behind him, watching Daeva’s face shift several times as she realized what he was doing.

“Sir.”

He nearly jumped out of his skin as he spun around. The man’s eyes went wide as he saw Daeva and I.

There was a pair of giant bat ears coming out the side of his head and his nose was scrunched up. “Goddess, that must make you the god king. I—I—” he stuttered at a loss for words.

“We are looking into a disturbance in the city lately. The night guard was part of a criminal operation in the city. Therefore, we are on guard tonight.” I smiled at him. “So, can you tell us what you’ve been seeing at night?”

He looked between the two of us, clearly worried that he was being blamed.

While I wasn’t ruling out his involvement, at the moment I was fairly certain that he was a prostitute.

His jaw flapped a few times. “Yeah. She was kind of a bitch. Sometimes she ‘taxed’ us. She was real pent up all the time and liked it with blindfolds while she pretended we were someone else.”

I snorted. “Yeah, that tracks. Anyone the fly guard especially liked?”

“Robbert?” He hesitated and looked around. “She always hung out by his place, got him a lot when he was coming out or going in.”

“Where?” If she hung out in the area, she might have been protecting something. And Robbert was just an object of opportunity.

“Just on the east side of the market, kind of a nice home two stories tall, mostly stone exterior. Not a lot of those.” He pointed in a direction.

“Thank you.” Daeva gave him a short nod. “Let’s go.” She pulled at my arm, eager to get back into the air.

I flew up with her, leaving the man of the night to go about his business.

“We’ll find it. Then we can take our time.” Daeva smiled.

I chuckled as we flew over the market. I knew that Daeva was in a hurry so that we could make out more.

Robbert’s home stood out like a sore thumb. “Oh, these guys do well in your city.”

“High demand.” Daeva said with a frown. “You won’t become like them, will you? Take offerings for sex?”

“No.” I said firmly as we floated above the home. I let my power billow out around us to catch anyone moving about. “There’s no enjoyment in having sex with a woman that I don’t know, respect, and trust.”

She floated closer to me, a determined expression on her face. “Then I should trust you back.” She bit her lip. “My third power.”

“You don’t have to do that.” I held up a hand.

But she shook her head. “No, you should know so that you understand when we fight together again.”

I nodded and kept quiet. She seemed to be struggling with talking about it.

“When I die, the world loses its color and I appear somewhere within a mile or two of where I died. If I get close to my body again or a piece of it, I can pull the material back to me and reform my body.” She sighed and watched me, looking far more vulnerable than she ever had before.

Leaning in, I kissed her and she kissed me back passionately, pulling my thigh up to a sitting position and sitting on it while supporting it with her telekinesis.

It was like she was a flame burning brighter than ever before and trying to swallow me up with her passion as she held my head and ground herself on my thigh.

“Miles,” She broke the kiss for a second and kissed down my jaw to my neck, where she kept kissing my soft skin and making me tingle. “I’ve never told anyone. Not even the scientists that tested me. I was so afraid they’d take my body after I died and hide it.”

I groaned from her kisses. “If anyone wanted to do that, they’d have to get through me. Now I know to protect your body extra.”

She moved to kissing the underside of my chin. Something about exposing myself to her while she was so vulnerable added an extra passion and my body reacted, poking her thigh.

Daeva felt it and broke from her kissing frenzy, staring down as she reached her hand out and brushed it against my erection. “I see. Bodies don’t lie.”

“They do not. You are a beautiful woman.” In the moonlight, her blonde hair and blue eyes lost some of their color but none of their shine. If anything, her eyes seemed especially bright. “My second power. It’s Skel’s mental power.” I trusted her in return.

Daeva smiled wide and in the moonlight it was so soft and beautiful. “Really?”

“I think her power separated her mind from her body. Like some sort of astral projection, but she’s scared that if something happened to her skull she’d disappear. She’s afraid.” I groaned as Daeva continued to grind herself on my thigh. With each pass, she brushed the tent in my pants.

“Have you tried?” Daeva asked.

“Not yet. Like you, I am a little worried about getting back into my body, but the power feels like it is there. I’m trying to figure out how to construct an entire body from energy.” My void limb cupped her waist and played with her toga as I worked it underneath.

She pulled it out and I frowned, feeling slightly rejected.

But then she turned around on my thigh and rested against me, pushing the void arm through the folds of her toga and to her fleshy folds between her legs. “Thank you for telling me.”

My fingers played with her lower lips, working some moisture into them and then a single finger penetrated her to the first knuckle.

She gasped and clenched down with her full super strength.

If it had been my other hand, I would have lost a finger.

“Relax.” I brushed her hair to one side and kissed her neck while I played with her perky breasts.

“It’s hard. It is a reflex. Can you push through?” She let out a grunt of frustration and ground against my finger that hand just barely entered her.

My void arm pushed, and I made it just a smidge more as she groaned and ground against the shadowy digit.

Rather than continue to push, I pulled out.

Daeva whined. “No. Let’s keep trying.”

I chuckled and played with her folds before I found the knot of flesh that was her clit and circled it slowly, feeling her relax in my arms. She seemed happier once she realized I wasn’t stopping, just changing what I was doing. “There, that feels good?”

“Very.” She stretched against me. “There. Yes, right there.” She guided me to a particular spot.

I rubbed it in tight circles as she flexed and stretched against me, her breath picking up and becoming sweeter.

Kissing her neck wasn’t enough.

She twisted and claimed my lips, groaning into me as she started to sway into my finger. She moaned as the movement added more dimension into the friction.

Her voice picked up and she broke the kiss to lay against me as her body spasmed with an orgasm and she tried to speak but it came out in a gasp.

The way she twitched and the clenches I felt from her sex made me glad that I’d taken it slow. She was clenching with the same superstrength that could crush cities. A bead of sweat ran down my back.

I continued to play with her until she brushed my arm aside.

“That was SO much better than when I’ve done it myself.” She lay against me far more relaxed. “You want to try going in again?”

I kissed her again. “Did that take some of the edge off? I think we should focus.”

She blushed and looked down at the city below us. “Right. We are out here to stop Roach.” She wrinkled her nose at his name. “That was nice. I want to do that again.”

“Of course.” I gave her another quick kiss before focusing on the homes below us. No one was out and about, so I pushed my power into the homes and then searched for underground structures.

“Find something?” She asked.

“Not yet, but I’m looking for things underground.” My sense wasn’t that great; it was more akin to pouring water over a flat tire to find the hole. But once I found something, my power could dive in and the pressure from the kinetic energy made a grayscale map in my mind. If I pushed too hard without a way in, I’d just make giant holes in all of the homes and the ground.

My power bled over the buildings and into them. There were plenty of crevices and spaces underneath the homes, but most were simple basements. Some were dug out by supers, and others were made of firm concrete from the city before.

Robbert’s house was remarkably well sealed, so for his, I had to punch a small hole around a window frame and let my power pour in.

His house rapidly mapped itself out in front of me.

Two people were home, and while I didn’t know what Robbert or anyone else should look like, they certainly weren’t Roach.

I pushed my power further, and it started to bleed into his floorboards. I let it expand, and the image expanded into a large cavern with supports bracing the house above it.

I didn’t need to look further to know that we had a problem.

As I watched, one of the people in the home stepped up to the door and then stepped outside, stuffing a pipe and huddling against the building to shield a small twig which was hot from a fire.

“Found two of them.” I said to Daeva. “Come on.”

Pulling us both down to the man trying to smoke a pipe, I froze him and shielded sound from getting out.

“Hello.” I smiled. “Robbert?”

“Huh? Uh. Yeah?” He didn’t sound quite so convinced that it was his name.

“That’s not Robbert.” Daeva added.

I wasn’t sure if she knew him or if she was playing along.

He swallowed and jerked, but the motion died at the neck as the rest of his body was locked firmly into place.

“Help!” He screamed at the top of his lungs. “The goddess is going to take advantage of me!” He kept on going.

I just waited for it to sink in that nobody could hear him. But it kept taking him a while, so I tapped my foot. “Done yet?”

The man let out a hoarse cough from the screaming. “What have you done?”

“This space is blocked off from the rest of the city. No one is going to hear you, sell you, or even be able to enter this space.” I replied.

“Is that your power?” He sneered.

“Sure.” I lied.

“Disgusting that you’d work for her.” He made a face and tried to spit at Daeva, but she was quick on the draw and threw it right back down his throat making him sputter and choke on his own spit.

Daeva looked at me, a frown still on her face. “I’m sure the other one will be more cooperative if we just kill him in front of them.”

“The brotherhood would never stoop so low as to talk to you.” The way he said it made it clear that they had a serious problem with Daeva.

“What’s wrong with her? What is the brotherhood?” I asked.

Daeva looked like she was about to smear him over the doorstep.

“You should know. Traitor. How could you turn down a recruitment?” He scoffed.

“Never got one. I’ve hid my power for years.” I said honestly. “Why? Give me your best pitch and I’ll smear Daeva here across the street.”

We shared a glance and Daeva seemed to understand her role. She started to struggle, but I caught her too in a vice of my power.

She could have put up more of a fight, but it seemed to be enough for the man.

“Wait, really? You trapped her like that? I heard you being called a god king, but you really just overpowered Daeva?” He looked back and forth between Daeva and I slack-jawed.

“I am the god king. So, what’s this brotherhood and why should I join you?”

He was stunned and maybe driven by the small hope that he could actually recruit me and survive tonight.

Sometimes people did stupid things when they thought they were close to getting what they wanted.

“It’s an organization. Men have been thrown down from their position in society and The Brotherhood is going to get it back. We are vital to the world, yet we’ve been reduced to prostitutes and taken from positions of power. You’re a man too, don’t you want to just shove a bitch down and choke her while you take what you want?” He got more passionate as he spoke.

I frowned. “No. Not really. I understand the appeal of some rough sex, but consent is key.”

“Men are supposed to be in charge.” He tried again. “It’s just biology.”

I shrugged. “Okay. I think I get this, and there’s some guy that looks like a roach in charge?” He was smarter than we’d given him credit for. Roach was using the man’s frustration and ego to get him to do what he wanted.

The man I had captured nodded stupidly, not sure what was happening, except that it was about to go badly for him if he stopped.

“Great. So where is he? Your little Brotherhood is being manipulated for his own end.” I pushed on his brain like I had the fly woman.

“Gone. He left us with a bunch of weapons. We were supposed to hide during the attack and then do some cleanup after.” He sounded stupider by the second.

“What attack? How many of you are there?” I asked.

“Monsters.” The man replied. “Roach said he was going to drown New Haven in monsters and there are maybe a dozen of The Brotherhood in New Haven. We have weapons in the basement though. They’re military grade.”

I thought of something else. “Which city gave you the weapons?”

“Point City.” He proudly stated, and I had a sinking feeling.

The concept of The Brotherhood reeked of the same anger Pratt had against women taking up all the other positions of leadership.

The man here exploded into a fine mist of blood and I let go of Daeva. “Come on. Let’s go deal with what’s inside.”

It's going to rain red in Point City! Roach is living up to his name, the disgusting little creep. And I knew Pratt was a bigoted arsehole, but to think he's go so far as to this? No wonder he's throwing female Supervillains into the wilds as cannon fodder. Less to deal with during his "uprising" Guess the Vault he and Hendricks are looking for are where he'll get the monsters for the attack. I'm surprised Hendricks is even part of the plan, but it makes me wonder if she's just a stupid fool trying to cling to her position and think Kim/Miles is trying to take it away. Also, damn... Knew it had to be either Skel's or Wells' power, and first guess was right.

Brad

I would be surprised if Hendricks doesn't have a contract with Pratt that makes it so he can't touch her or maybe like makes her Queen to his King.

Knew it skel power! But how does that make him more durable or immortal? Other then his mind lol his body can still die.

The point is exactly that his mind can survive even if his body dies. It's why he's been talking about transcending human, and how his women might not be ready for him to do that yet. It's also why he is counting on Skel being wrong about the skull needing to survive. My guess is he plans on just making himself a full "void body".
