Hello my patrons! On the next SMMC video, we have couple 8-bit computers but what's more fun is we also have a vintage 1983 Radio Shack computer catalog, which I'll do a read through. The prices are hard to take in, especially with the high end business computers Radio Shack was trying to sell.

It's hard to imagine many people were buying the TRS-80 Model 16 with the matching hard drive at the same place people were buying replacement battery for toys.

Let me know what you think about these prices!

Thanks for all the support, it is going to soon be more important than ever! (More on this soon)

I used to operate a decollator in my first IT job back in 1978. It's job was to separate the carbon copies of continuous forms. I think that the one that I operated could do 8-part carbon paper. When the paper jammed it was a real mess.

Sometime around 1980, I bought a coco 1 which I still have. I upgraded it to 64K at one point. Funny story, around, 1982 my girlfriend Donna came over to stay the weekend. At around 2 AM she woke me up to say someone was in the house as some lights just came on. I had the X10 interface for the coco and it was running the lights to make my house look occupied. I had to get up to show her the computer system. We've now been married for 37 years and she is used to my home automation projects. Comparing computer prices to cars, I think my wife's Tesla was around $38,000 back in 2018!

You know when I rewatched the video I realized that was clearly what it was for. You could split those forms and it would fold them back up again, right? I could see that being quite useful in cases where you needed it. A bit funny that was something they sold at Radio Shack as it seemed quite specialized.

Hahah! Home automation always annoys and bemuses spouses and significant others, doesn't it!? I had the X10 stuff back in the day too, although I never used the computer interface and just had the remotes everywhere and the alarm clock timer controller thing. I remember I had the PC interface (RS232) but I found the software annoying so went back to remotes. Now I still have all that stuff, but Zigbee/Zwave with a Hubitat hub instead. Nothing much changes I guess!!
