I got my first TRS-80 Comouter, a Model III, before I was doing repairs on my channel. The motherboard from the machine was broken and not working and I didn’t yet know how to fix things. So, I picked up a replacement motherboard on eBay and installed that into the machine.

I’ve had the motherboard sitting around waiting for a future repair and that day is now! (Well, I’ll work on it tomorrow.)

Tonight, I was just preparing for the repair. I didn’t want to run the motherboard hooked up to an unwieldy open Model III, so I fixed a dead Model III PSU and made a cable to run the motherboard.

Then, I hooked up the motherboard to the RGB2HDMI to get a perfect and easy to capture display from the motherboard. It looks exactly as I remember, although at this point the motherboard can’t run due to some missing parts.

Anyway, I’m now ready to start troubleshooting! I tried and failed to fix this once before. My skills have improved greatly, so let’s see if I can bring this thing back to life this time!

I have fond memories of programming the Model 3’s and 4’s we had in middle school and high school!
