Hello my patrons -- I only just finished editing this video. I made it when I was sick last week, and then it turned out to be a ton of editing. (And it resulted in a rather long video.) I've never worked on a TRS-80 before (from a troubleshooting perspective) so it was fun. This machine is 100% socketed so I could have easily just swapped all the chips and called it a day.... instead I do "my thing" I actually find the fault first before randomly swapping things out.

Now I have experience with this machine, I can attack the Dragon 32 I have, which has an identical architecture inside.

Cool stuff, Adrian. It's really too bad about the SAM being bad. Luckily, 6809Es are still pretty easy to get. BTW, the HALT signal that goes out to the cartridge slot? That's used by the floppy controller. It's connected to the DRQ output of the floppy controller chip through some logic and is used to pause/resume the CPU that's in a tight loop either reading or writing data to the data port on the floppy controller chip.

Great video Adrian! Curious to see the Dragon from across the pond and hope you are feeling better! Have some King Cake!

Good info! Also, I did see some SAM chips from China -- no idea how well those work, but they were cheap enough so I'll probably pick up a few just to have on hand in my stash of spares.

Heh! Yeah I need to dig into the Dragon. I'm not 100% sure about the Dragon's PSU so I may need to finally pick up step-up converter.
