Hello my patrons! Over the last couple days I tried fixing my first cassette deck, a Nakamichi BX-100. Unfortunately, the repair didn't result in a totally working deck. It turns out analog really isn't my thing :-)

I shot this rambly video about this deck and what I did to try to fix it.

Now, time to get back to digital computers!

It's amazing how much stuff you learned about the deck to tackle it. It would take me years of practice and looking up stuff to be able to fix something like this. I watched a couple of videos on tape recorders from Technology Connections and Alec talked a lot about the noise of the iron-oxide particles and how they developed ways to cancel the noise out. Have you seen those videos? Maybe there's something there that you can find to help searching for a solution for the noise recording issue.

I have to give you kudos on the Led Zeppelin mix tape, especially when The Crunge started playing. Could be worthwhile trying to make a Faraday cage to eliminate RF interference. I grew up very close to an FM radio tower. I remember accidentally recording a very faint radio signal once while trying to record silence onto a tape. It would have been on a cheapo stereo in the 80s. Did the oscilloscope show any patterns in the interference that would lead you to what it might be?
