Hello my patrons! Next up on the second channel, I found five ISA hard cards (hard drive and controller on a single card) in a box and I wanted to see if any of these cards work anymore. I've found that all hard cards are notoriously unreliable, so join me on an adventure of IO conflicts, flaky hardware and things failing right before our eyes.

In other news, I am going to have a table at VCF Midwest in Chicago next month! I think I am going to throw a poll on Patreon to see what I should bring to the event. I'll by flying, so it has to be small things that'll fit in my luggage. Luckily I won't need monitors or things like that as I'll be calling on friends to bring those for me. (Local friends) Are there any machines I have that would be cool to see that I can stuff in a bag?

Thanks for all your support!

Regarding the JVC drive I found this Blog-Post: https://knm.org.uk/blog/2017/04/the-jvc-26-pin-hard-disk-interface-part-1/ The person analysis the interface of those JVC drives in this and following blog posts, which I find very interesting. One thing I read in the first was, that the drive only spins up after it got the signal from the controller, so it may be, that your JVC drive is okay and "just" the controller card is not working. Thanks for this great video!

Adrian, If you look at 52:34 before you started pulling the Quantum hardcard apart it looks like the plastic was already cracked, so it must have cracked sometime between the previous scene and when you started trying to open it.

I just started watching when it hit YouTube. @21:56 “Volume in drive C is ASSHOLE” lol

While working for CompuAdd I had a tech bulletin from Tandon about Stiction. That 20MB drive looks like a Tandon mechanism. What was happening was with the epoxy attaching the heads to the arms. When it got hot the epoxy would outgas. Over time the outgassing would leave a film on the media similar to car dashboards leave a film on the inside of the windshield. The drive would cool down and the heads would stick to the platter. I would perform a snap-twist while holding the drive tight to use the mass of the platters to overcome the inertia. Worked every time. Once it was running, we'd back up the drive and install an upgraded design replacement drive. Never had the problem with Miniscribe drives and the company began stocking more of those.
