Hello my patrons! Better late than never, this is the next main channel video. I'm revisiting that troublesome XT motherboard that I couldn't fix AND the troublesome AST RAM card I couldn't fix. To help with fixing both of them, I enlisted the help of my friend David to port his March-U code used on the Apple II Dest Test ROM and the TRS-80 Dead Test roms over to the IBM PC! I was hoping such a test would help me figure out exactly what was wrong with both of these items. What is both funny and annoying is that both of them are now working perfectly, and that is without me doing anything!

So I whipped up a video on the Diagnostic ROM anyway, since I feel it should be useful to other enthusiasts trying to fix their old PC machines -- and then I go into what I think happened to make these two unfixable things work again.

Thanks for all your support!

We created a new RAM test ROM to help fix the unfixable motherboard and RAM card for no reason

I recently had a number of videos where I struggle to understand why my XT clone motherboard had fata RAM issues that prevented it from working. I tried to fix it but got no where. The same thing happened with an AST RAM card, where it also had random issues that I couldn't sold. So with my friend David, we created a new IBM PC diagnostic ROM that runs a very comprehensive RAM test to help fix these two broken parts, but they just work now! I have gotten the place where always check the power supply before I do any testing. But I see why this issue would have been hard to catch as you are only working on the mother board and not a complete system and testing with something you considered known to be good. The thing I really enjoy about your videos is that you never hide the root cause even if it was a mistake in your process. I learn so much from your videos, great work!

I suggest going with a pico ATX in the future, but you may still need to elevate the board somehow to allow the cards to be inserted, I know the ISA cards overhang the board. Even better if you supply it using your bench power supply with over current limiting.
