REPORT: Long Beach Comic Con 2023 (Patreon)
Content
I just got back from the LBCC! I didn't know that there were a handful of other events happening this same weekend: DragonCon, SacAnime, Anime Impulse, and PAX. Because there were similar concurrent events, our convention wasn't as populated as I hoped.
It was very slow most of the time. I brought my iPad and notebook, so I got some storyboards and writing done. I made a handful of sales, but sadly we didn't break even on the table itself. I think I spent more money keeping my team fed than our actual sales this weekend lol
Even if the convention wasn't as profitable as expected, it was still a learning experience. I learned that I should offer prints of various sizes to suit people's budget, and to fit on whatever wallspace they have left at home. I'm also gonna commission more "cute" art because I had some passersby express their interest, but were wary of their parents seeing the ecchi artwork.
I'm also unsure if my anime-styled art fits in a Comic Con because those are more geared towards comic book fans. I think I would have to adapt to those preferences if I wanted to make more sales.
Overall, I had a good time, learned, made a bit of money, and I look forward to doing another (more popular) con soon.
Now that I'm back home, I plan to make a website to sell my prints, and to also prepare a script for the upcoming discord feedback group!
