I have not seen any of the live action movies however I've seen the original anime and read the original manga. Sadly I need to point out one critical detail you missed Dai. The anime follows losely the manga right up until the end of the Kyoto arc. Which is about episode 60-62. Everything after that sadly is all filler. The original anime sadly died on filler. The manga continues on a completely different direction than the anime and goes into it's third and final mega arc. Which the manga can be divided into three mega arcs. The Tokyo arc, which is everything up to the point of Saito showing up and Kenshin leaving for Kyoto. Then the Kyoto arc which pretty much covers all the stuff with Shisho and the like. The last arc to be covered is the Jinchu arc. The Earthly Justice arc. It's the arc where Kenshin's past comes back to haunt him. It' also the arc that the Trust and Betrayal OVAs draw the story from as during the Jinchu arc Kenshin sits down with all the people at Kaoru's dojo and explains what all happened. The adaptation of it from the manga is pretty faithful over all. Not much really changed and is really good. You can see some of the elements of the Jinchu arc if you watch the OVA Reflection which pretty much covers the end of Kenshin and Kaoru's story. All of the above said the live action stuff looks pretty damn good all things told. As for a good anime live action adaptation I would say look up the Live Action movie for Space Battleship Yamato. It's pretty good overall and it has a decent budge to go with it. Anyway that is all I wanted to say.

I'm aware of the filler. That's why, between all five movies it covers the important stuff.

Seen these movies on the plane ride to Japan and loved them. I watched the anime and the movie are true to the look and spirit of the original material which is something most other live action screw up.
