With the release of the video game Ghost of Tsushima, an American action game about Samurai, some folks on twitter have deemed the game cultural appropriation, despite how Japan quite likes the game. Let's talk about cultural appropriation as it pertains to Japan, as well as how anime itself perhaps appropriates other cultures. Want reliable notifications for all my videos? I can see why some people might be offended by the use of cosmetic aspects of different cultures being used for simple appeal. But why would that be offensive. Unless it has an actual derogatory meaning behind it, like depictions of "indians" in old cartoons, I don't see an issue. And anyone who says other is either mistaken or just looking for something to complain about. I'm part German myself, and can see the cultural influences present in Octoberfest-type festivals, that are all about consuming beer. But I don't get offended that part of my heritage is associated with booze. Beer is a a part of some German customs, and there's every chance that it might introduce people to other aspects of the culture.
