In other supernatural or fantasy series the only people who use Necromancy are the lowest of the low, the main evil Villains who disregards life. Meanwhile in Fate we have a Necromancer who not only is one of the best dads of the series but he's also a badass.

Keiri certainly does give Necromancy a new image. In RL, it's been used across multiple cultures in different variations. I can't speak to what Oriental practices were like, but I do know that European practices did involve using dead body parts to preform rituals or to make some pretty messed up and macabre things. And fairly certain that some of it's practices can be traced back to ancient Greece. They had beliefs and traditions pertaining specifically to communing with the dead.
