Remakes are really not necessary for awesome old series. It's not all about recreating everything with modern animation - sometimes the old series is just awesome as it is, with all its 80s/90s charme. For example, one of my favorite series is Maison Ikkoku, and that is ANCIENT. But the story is awesome, and I like the 80s Japan charme. I have cringed through a few remakes of great movies. Yikes, is it that they thought "well everybody loves this movie, so we don't have to try too hard?"
