I actually got pretty inspired to try and do some animating (again) after watching Qualtro's Code Blue animation. This obviously is not as polished as his animations for few reasons, but for not touching animation with an 18 foot pole after a couple years, I think I did a decent job for my first one since!

I wanted to kinda make a throwback to one of my original blueberry Poff animations, (you can find it on dA if you're persistent).

The process behind this was relatively simple but the wobble aspect took me a bit longer.

I started with a sketch, first drafting the animated hands and feet. Then I added blinking before revising it into a sort of anxious glancing around.
I was going to call it there before figuring out the teetering motion but then I gave berry Poff some juice spurts to give more weight to the wobble.

From there I lined and colored everything accordingly, added hair. Unfortunately this isn't as shaded as I would have liked it to be but until I figure out my softwares' limits I didn't want to risk the colors being janked up by gif compression, the switch between softwares two to three times, etc., I wanted to play it safe by doing minimal colors.

I then had a heart attack as CSP refused to respond for about fifteen minutes. If this isn't a sign for me to start looking at a newer computer, I don't know what is lol

The second gif is what was completed from that stage. Now onto the wobble. Fun fact about me, in middle/high school I was r e a l l y into editing videos, so as a result, I invested in Vegas Pro at that time. Now we go into my several attempts to, well, animate the wobble.

  • Attempt #1, Importing Every Frame: This would have taken me much longer to manually adjust each frame into a 10-15fps time limit, not to mention the render time with repeating files.
  • Attempt #2, Import a gif with a green bg to chroma key out: I immediately realized I was adding an extra step that didn't need to be there but tried anyways because I was rusty. It made the edges look disgustingly sharp and gave everything a weird colored border.
  • Attempt #3, Import a normal gif with a white bg: WOW THIS WORKED.

I then added in motion keys, adjusted their smoothness, etc. And finally had the wobble down. You can take a look at the mp4 in the attachments if you want to see that too.

I then rendered this again to which my computer feigned death in response. Again, sign to start looking at a new computer ig.

Things I would have modified would have been to add a shadow lol. Both to break up the white bg and to give a sense of depth. Oh well, better keep it in mind next time! (If ol' reliable can survive until then lmao)

Even though this doesn't look like much on the surface level, I still put a chunk of time and effort into it. I hope others enjoy this as much as I did working on it haha.

Perhaps I will try and do more animating in the future :D
