Sticker making behind story 2 (Patreon)

I've been working on sticker sheets all week.

Originally, I tend to use for about 3 weeks while doing other work in parallel. But at the end of this month, I heard the news that most of the factory prices are going up due to inflation. So I had to hurry!

Last time I talked about factories.

This time, I will share the details of the production

1. Concept

The main theme was decided by patreon's vote as you know.

I first think about what texture to make these with.

In the case of sunfish, a glossy transparent sticker would be good, but in the case of mammals and sharks, I thought that a matt texture would suit. This time, I chose a different type of foil than gold because there are a lot of blue tones overall.

I place the main character first

Then I look for another character to fill the vacancy.

The black line is the rough sketch for the foil.

I drew a new character for the sticker for marine fish sheets. 

Flying fish and garden eels.

Considering that sunfish are often on the surface, I thought it would be nice to place the fish above the sea and the bottom of the sea together.

In the past I had idea of a sticker sheets made of only garden eel, but they didn't win past patreon polls... 😂 

I'm happy to finally make a sticker that includes them.

For another sticker, I chose glitter hologram after a long time.

It is a hologram of the same kind as a jewel snail and a turtle I made before.

Because it is a bright color, the shiny texture will look great.

2. Making

It requires total of 3 layers

• Foil line
• cutting line
• Image 

The most commonly used method is to give a white edge around the sticker. 

In order for there to be no white edge, process is more complex. because the extended margin must be redrawn.

1. Original image

The outline of this characters becomes the cutting line.

It is necessary to create a path in Illustrator in Adobe photoshop.

2. An extended border image of the cutting line is required.

it can be pushed up, down, left, and right by 1mm in the final product process, so artist take that into consideration.

3. Create an image and path for the foil.

This is the path of the foil part of the garden eel.

I don't normally use Adobe Illustrator at all, so this process is the most difficult for me.

If someone who is proficient in this program looks closely at my path line, they will be stressed😂 The programming skills become proficient only if we are used frequently, but since I only use them to create patreon rewards twice a year, it seems that my skills do not improve.

It will probably be produced in this form in the end.

3. Confirm with factory.

At this stage, I contact the factory to receive confirmation.

This is because, if the spacing between characters or the cutting line is too complex, various problems arise.

After I send the file, the factory sends me the fix.

I modified! 

The distance between the fish's dorsal fin and caudal fin is too narrow

Now that I have made many stickers sheets, so there are fewer modifications than before.

When I first made it, there were many twists and turns... tons of fixes😂

As scheduled, the sticker will be finished next week or next week. 

When it arrives, I will take a picture and share it.
