[ drawing ] Mushroom 1. Edible

[ drawing ] Mushroom 2. Toxic, inedible, unknown

In a previous post, I wrote that I was considering how to complete this.

Here is my layout work in process.

1.  Size

I listed the mushrooms according to their size.

I thought about drawing all mushrooms the same size and writing the name below, so I didn't look for the size at first. But I changed my mind,

It was really fun looking for the size information.

Sometimes it seems that there are quite a few edible mushrooms that grow to be incredibly large.

Maybe such mushrooms are expensive, so the people who found them were smiling really happy.

I felt that the mushrooms I drew this time were about 10 centimeters (4 inches) on average.

2. Layout (Character placement)

At first, I tried to complete this as a series.

Maybe I was going to draw 50 characters like now, and if it was a complicated-looking animal, I would have drawn it at least in two parts. Because people may not recognize it properly on the phone screen.

In the case of mushrooms, there are 50 types of mushrooms, and there are cases where I drew 2 or more mushrooms of the same type, so there are more.

But the shape of a mushroom is simple, right? Maybe it would be recognizable even if I drew them all together in one frame.

So when I thought of this, I put it together and test it before deciding.

I placed the mushrooms on the outside of the frame and then placed them one by one on the frame.

This may seem random, but I did it with balance in mind.

It's easier than arranging furniture and harder than putting together a puzzle.

This is a layout that harmonizes size and color. 👇

This is an arrangement of similar colors grouped together.👇

In this way, not only the character placement but also the color, etc., it is often the case that the number of cases ranges from two to as many as four.

I compare them and work on choosing the best one.

If it is short, it can be selected in 30 minutes, but this often takes more than half a day.

I look at them up close, from afar, and sometimes ask for opinions from friends.

Right one that is arranged in a similar color feels quite organized.

Out of the two, I tend to be drawn to things that are organized.

3. Test

I tested it on mobile.

It's probably a little hard to recognize on Instagram's profile feed, but other than that, it looks good. If it was difficult to recognize that they were mushrooms on mobile, I was thinking of breaking this up into 3 parts to complete and update.

Now all I need to do is complete them😆

You will see them soon..

Thank you!

It's always amazing to see your process! The thought behind it and layout, aesthetics... Everything is always so well thought out and intricate! Love your work 💗

HiccupsCloud

Love them! I absolutely love your placement. Wonderful!!!

Kammy

It looks cute! Aesthetically pleasing. 😊 I thought you might be setting it up like the periodic table. 🤔🤔

Cool process explanation :D I like the idea of edible and non edible versions. Could be a good guide?

Spike Milligan

My work display actually has two screens so this would be *perfect*. 👀

I'm so excited for the mushrooms!!!!!!! 🍄🤩🍄🤩🍄

pikaole

Yes, I think poisonous mushrooms could be good to guide. On the other hand, the edible mushrooms I drew this time may be a little unstable to make as a guide. About half of them do not seem to be eaten at all in the West!

pikaole

Haha yes, sometimes I feel the urge to organize things like that a lot. Mushrooms are drawn in different sizes this time, but I tend to like to draw in the same size, especially when drawing fish.

Thank you so much senkoushoujo! It's great to be able to share these thoughts through patreon!

There is often only mushrooms like white button and brown type mushrooms and maybe shiitake here in Canadian grocers. However, you can go to special asian grocery stores to buy enoki, wood ear, fancy shitake, oyster and more :) my favorite is enoki!

pikaole

Oh, you probably like the texture of enoki! My family and my friends all love those mushrooms. They often go into dishes like hotpot. In my case, when I found them, I secretly move them to my mom's bowl😁

Aaa fantastic, love this! I just started reading a book about fungi, 'Entangled Life,' some of the species there are in your drawings :D

pikaole

Oh the title sounds interesting. It looks like it's just been published, right? I wish there was a Korean translation in the future :D

yes it's pretty new! and I hope so, it's very interesting :D

pikaole

Oh, I'll have to keep an eye on the science book section to see if a translated version is published. thank you!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MUSHROOMS I LOVE MUSHROOMS!!!! Did you know that everybody who had survived Amanita phalloides has said it was the most delicious mushroom they had ever had? Anyways, do you have any plans for a mushroom Galaxy theme? Mushroom enamel pins? Mushroom post card? Mushroom everything? Becoming a mushroom? Because I can not stress to you enough how much my little goblin brain loves mushrooms.

pikaole

Oh, I have good news for you. Mushrooms are now number one in sticker voting. (https://www.patreon.com/posts/poll-sticker-57221774) So unless a reversal occurs, I think it will be made as a sticker for the next reward. About Death cap, I didn't know that until you told me! I don't want to die, but I'm really curious about their taste...😂

So awesome!! I love the one that is arranged by colour 😍 your artwork is so inspiring and I love seeing cool science things that I love!

pikaole

Thank you so much Hannah! yeah, I'm going to finish it with a color-organized version now. we can see it this week.

I'm very particular about how I use your stickers, but I *do* use them!! I'm so excited to be sending out Halloween cards today with your gorgeous and adorable bat stickers!!

pikaole

Oh! I'm so glad they were used on your Halloween cards. A perfect choice for using bat stickers. Hope the recipient likes it too! Happy halloween :D
