“This heat is just too much. Why are they still making us go to school.” Momo complained as we walked to school.
She was not wrong. The heat was really getting to both of us. I had just taken a cool shower, and I was already covered in sweat once again. By the time we got to school, both of us were drenched.
“This is not right!” I complained. I also disliked being covered in sweat when I was not working out. “Momo, if the temps are hot again tomorrow I am staying home.”
“I think I will join you.” Momo nodded her head as she wiped her sweat.
If I knew for a fact things would be getting crazier as time went on, I would probably not leave the house at all, but since there was no telling if this was just a strange weather pattern or not, I had no choice but to show up to school even if I did not want to.
Luckily it was not just us who had suffered. Many of the kids who did not get driven to school were soaked in sweat. The classroom stunk, but there was nothing we could do about it. At least there was A.C.
“Listen up everyone. I know it’s hot but we still need to go on about our days. The school is new so the air conditioning here is in top condition. But if there are any power failures we will end classes for the day.” My teacher gave us all a heads-up before beginning our lessons.
It was at times like this that I kind of wish some kind of fantasy-type situation would happen. Like those things, you read about in novels, like forced summoning or some kind of world system. But sadly, this is the real world.
The school day passed quickly, and Momo and I walked home. When we came to a stop by Momo’s house, she patted me on the shoulder. “Jade I will be over later with some food. My mother told me to tell you not to cook tonight.”
“Alright. Go in and shower, I know you are dying.” I, too, was dying. I had to sit in class all day feeling sticky due to sweating this morning, and now I was drenched in sweat again. The temps had not cooled down at all.
“See you in a bit!” Momo quickly ran off while I continued on my way to my house. When I entered the house, I was met with a steamy situation. Unlike Momo’s house, which has her mother at home all day, my house has no one, so I can’t just keep the A.C. running all day.
I quickly turned the A.C. on and went around the house, turning off all the fans before closing the windows. After I was done, I wiped my sweat with my shirt before grabbing a clean set of clothes and a towel and heading to the bathroom. “A cool shower should do it. Hopefully the house will be cooler by the time I am done.”
About forty minutes later, I stepped out of the shower. Normally, I would take a shorter shower by the cool water was something I couldn’t resist. Luckily, the temperature inside had gotten to a bearable level and I was not sweating from taking two steps.
“I will wait until nighttime to practice my swings.” Hot or not, I couldn’t practice. When it cooled off at night and the moon was out made for a great time to practice my swings. It was still hot but not as bad as it was during the day.
I was currently wearing a pair of pale blue shorts and a white tank top. On my hip, of course, was my sword, no matter what I was wearing. I walked to the kitchen and got something to drink, a bottle of water, and an apple for a snack before walking to the living room and sitting on the couch.
I turned on the T.V. and switched to the weather channel so I could see how things were going. But the more I watched, the more I felt like my gut feeling was correct. “I guess I can cut out school tomorrow.”
It was supposed to be almost a hundred and ten degrees tomorrow. This was ten degrees higher than today. The day after was supposed to be almost a hundred and thirty. These kinds of temps were just too hot!
I sat and frowned at the weather with an apple in my mouth when a knock came at the door. I got up and went to the camera to see that many packages had been delivered. “Perfect timing!” Multiple boxes were piled up outside. All of which were mainly survival food. Enough for me and three others to eat for two years. This included bottled water as well even though I had a water pump hooked up to electric as well.
“Let’s see, solar panels… cords… and… the batteries too!” I already had the other things connected to the additional solar panel breaker box so I did not need that. I just needed the panels. This was all for a backup system in case something happened to the other system. So basically a backup for the backup. I also had a generator as well just in case.
I was currently running everything off the power grid since the heat wave came to make sure my main batteries were always fully charged. Now, I had multiple methods of powering the house. If the power failed I would move into the basement and hide out down there. Not much power was needed to power the basement area since it was always cool due to its depth. A perfect little hideout from the heat.
