“Bai Yu! You actually caught up!?” I watched as Yan Fei’s expression turned sour. She looked at me with hatred in her eyes before turning to Bai Yu. “Bai Yu, the egg was eaten by this brat. Now, not even you can acquire the dragon.”

“Whether the egg was eaten or not, it is better than it falling into your hands! Yan Fei, you actually came to lands controlled by the major sects. Did you think you could leave here alive today!?” Bai Yu did not seem to mind me ‘eating’ the egg. But that was only in the face of the other girl. The two girls were staring each other down as if they were mortal enemies. Well, I guess they could be but the fact that both of them were around the same age, but Bai Yu had the higher cultivation. She was rank three qi gathering, which made no sense to me. If the devil sects and the righteous sects were split into their own territories, then why would someone of such low cultivation come out here with so few people?

This is what confused me the most. Why would she risk it? Even for a dragon egg, the risk was too great. The only thing I could think of that would allow her to come this far out was if she either had some kind of trump card to allow her to quickly escape or had someone following her and protecting her.

I had a feeling I should be extra careful. I have the egg, so I can escape easily once these two start fighting. But if one of them tried to block me, it would be more difficult. Plus, I couldn’t leave the other girl alone. For one, if I did leave suddenly and she ended up getting injured or something worse but still came out alive, she would deem me as an enemy in the future. But if I stayed and helped her and she did end up being a disciple of the Tiandao Academy then I might make a friend even though I did steal what she wanted.

Making friends was not a bad idea. And I could probably get out of the whole, eating the egg deal with how I am dressed. After all, my clothes were still ratty even if they were now clean. So I can get by saying I was hungry and stumbled upon the egg. At least, I think.

At any rate, I need to warn Bai Yu not to kill this girl if she can avoid it. Much to her surprise, I tapped my foot off the ground and quickly arrived at Bai Yu’s side. “Don’t kill her. Better to just leave.”

“Wha? Why? If I don’t kill her now, she will come to attack you again.” Bai Yu was a kind girl. She really did not seem to care about the egg at all and was more worried about my safety.

“Because she is only a rank two qi gathering cultivator in an area not controlled by the devil sects. Isn’t it strange?” I replied in a low whisper. But it seemed are quiet conversation angered Yan Fei.

“What are you to whispering about!?” Yan Fei yelled, but she still did not attack. It was as if she was afraid of fighting in this place. From her actions up until now, she seemed wary of Bai Yu. She had run off on her own. I thought her current arrogance was due to the fact that she had a trump card of some kind. It seems more like an elder might be nearby, but since they did not want to expose themselves, they were hiding outside the cave. So even if she were to die here, and we were to die outside, she would still be dead, and the dead can not return to the living.

I turned to Yan Fei and narrowed my eyes. “Leave. Before you actually end up dead, it’s best if you leave.”

“A brat should not be giving me orders!” Yan Fei seemed to be the stubborn type. This was kind of annoying.

“With me helping Big Sister here, you will not leave this place alive. I may be young, but my cultivation is only a rank below yours, and Big Sister is a rank above you. Do you really think you can leave here alive? Even if you have an elder waiting outside, you would still die here today.” As I spoke, I watched as Yan Fei’s eyes widened. She seemed to have not noticed my cultivation or it might be because I knew of the elder outside.

She seemed to be thinking of something, but before she could speak, I cut her off. “And don’t think that you can call the elder in here. If that was the case you would have done it as soon as Big Sister arrived. He would have also stopped her. In order words, unless you have died, he will not attack us. So even if we leave this place, he will not show himself because he knows that doing so will be suicide.”

“You! How did you know!?” Yan Fei Gritted her teeth as she yelled out. She was not the brightest person in the world, that was for sure. She could have stayed quiet and said nothing, but she went ahead and shouted anyway. She might be seen as a talent, but that talent only stemmed from her cultivation and not her brain…

I did not answer but instead asked: “Are you going to go or not?”

“Tch…” Yan Fei clicked her tongue and glared at me. “I will not let you off. You better hide from me because the next time I see you, I will drain you of your blood and use it as a tonic!”

“As you wish, but by that time, you will be much weaker than me,” I replied with a slightly arrogant tone. I mean I was only five and almost the same cultivation as her. If I were to fight her right now, I probably could still defeat her, but I did not want to deal with the person protecting her.

“We will see.” Yan Fei snorted before walking past us, only to stop once more. She turned and glared at Bai Yu and said: “The same goes for you as well, Bai Yu!”
