I exited the pagoda and quickly hid behind a tree. The sounds of swords clashing could be heard only feet away from me. “Little Nine, which way?”

“Head south to your left.” Little Nine replied. I lowered my body and quickly made my way through the forest, heading towards the cave.

“Senior Sister Yan Fei, I saw someone just now!” A young man yelled out. He had only caught a glimpse of it but he was sure that he saw a figure race towards the cave.

“Someone dares to fish in troubled waters!?” a girl in black robes named Yan Fei answered back. Her white hair and red eyes were signs of her strange cultivation method. As a devil cultivator, she, like many devil cultivators, used the blood of others to boost her cultivation. “Hold these righteous sect bastards here. I will go deal with the opportunist!”

“I will do my best, Senior Sister!” The young man could not wait to impress his senior sister. After all, she was the top beauty of the outer sect. Not only was she beautiful, but she also had a high aptitude for cultivation.

Yan Fei pushed the person in front of her away and made for the trees at the side to give chase after the figure. “Yan Fei, where are you going!?” a young woman in blue robes saw Yan Fei rushing towards the cave and knew the woman was trying to take advantage of the situation.

“Bai Yu!” Yan Fei gritted her teeth as she sped up. She could not let Bai Yu hold her up and she also could not let the egg get stolen. She did not want to leave her back exposed, but at this time, she had no choice.

“Hmm…. This is the cave?” I asked Little NIne in my mind.

“Yes, the egg is deeper in. You need to hurry; two people are on their way here.” Little Nine’s voice was filled with urgency. I did not dare waste any more time and quickly entered the cave.

The cave itself was dark and damp—exactly what you would expect for a cave out in the middle of the forest. Mossy-covered rocks and the sounds of dripping water could be heard all around me. The thing that I had to watch out for the most was the bugs that crawled across the ground. While I can say my vision was much better than a normal human’s due to my race, it was still not wise to let my guard down when in a cave like this with such low cultivation. Even a bug the size of my palm might have the strength to bite through my skin and poison me.

Insects that were rank 1 were not considered demonic beasts but devil insects. They were still just as easy to kill if you saw them but they were strong enough to pierce the skin of a cultivator. But this was only for those in the body fortification, qi gathering, and qi condensation realms. Once you reach the foundation establishment realm you could leave a thin layer of spiritual qi covering your body to protect you from such insects.

I made my way deeper into the cave as quickly as I could. When I finally came to the end, where I found a dimly lit area, I saw a black egg sitting in a large nest. “This is the egg?”

“Yes, I have no idea what it is, but it is something they are fighting over, so it must have some kind of importance,” Little Nine replied. If Little Nine did not know what kind of egg it was, but the others were fighting over it, then it should be considered a treasure of some kind? I questioned myself as I walked towards the egg. As I did, I suddenly felt a strange feeling welling up inside me. Almost as if I had some form of connection to this egg. “Whatever you are, you are now mine.”

I did not hesitate and touched the egg sending it into the Pagoda. But before I could send myself in, I heard a voice yell out from behind me. “Where is the egg!? Little brat, what did you do with the egg!?”

I turned to see a white-haired, red-eyed beauty standing there, glaring at me as if she was going to tear me into millions of pieces. She was only a rank three qi gathering cultivator, so I did not think it would be much of a problem for me to escape from her. I only needed to get out of the cave and into the forest, and then I could jump into the pagoda as long as I was out of their line of sight.

I smiled brightly at her and said, “Egg? I already ate it. It was pretty good.”

The girl with red eyes widened as she stared at me as if I were some kind of monster. As she squinted her eyes, she seemed to have come to some kind of realization as she pointed at me: “This is how you got your dragon traits! Fine, I will just have to kill you and drain you of your blood!”

The girl’s expression turned murderous as she drew her sword. I was ready for her to attack and planned to dodge and then escape but before any of us could move, I heard another voice yell out: “Yan Fei, I won’t let you!”
