The fourth episode in conversation with George of CAVDEF discussing Henry Lee Lucas. In this episode, we become the Texas Ranger Defenders, at least regarding the Henry Lee Lucas Texas Ranger Task Force. We explore largely-buried information from mainstream sources that suggest that some of Lucas's confessions were genuine. Then we examine the backgrounds of the three people most responsible for exposing the Lucas "hoax", and lay out what Netflix didn't cover for each of them.
George then explains how he came to have a large tranche of Texas Ranger investigative files and what these files lay out. Ultimately, what we find are some very curious events occurring surrounding Lucas's recantation, including a law enforcement standoff between agencies. Alarmingly, there is potential evidence of brainwashing involved in Lucas's recantation, suggesting more mind control at play beyond Ionia. Things are not as simple as you'd see in the Netflix series.
George's Notes:
• In light of Wendy Painting's recent revelations about Jolly West, the Lucas/McVeigh parallels that we alluded to are perhaps even stronger based on what we discuss in this episode
• A small correction in describing Arthur Jay Harris's findings: it was the multiple northwest Florida murders (including that of John P. McDaniel Jr.) which were validated by the FDLE through independent matching statements from Lucas (years after his initial recantation), Toole, and Toole's nephew Frank Powell. The Miami-area murder of Linda Karbin and Hazel Haack was just investigated by the local police, but Harris examined those records also and found that Lucas accurately described the victims before picking them out of a lineup; the entire interrogation was taped by the detective.
• I had stated that Aynesworth applied to the CIA in 1964, but he was actually referred to a CIA recruiter in 1963, a month *before* the Kennedy assassination:
