Today I'm joined by a very special guest, Fortean expert Tanner Boyle (@TannerFBoyle1) to discuss some early high strangeness, and particularly a lot of the incredibly underdiscussed parapolitical angles to said phenomenon. We discuss the weird figures around the Mothman thing, the factories around Point Pleasant, the backgrounds of people like John Keel, Woodrow Derenberger, and Indrid Cold, and the Lanulos abduction story.

We talk Bosco Nedelcovic, Union Carbide, COINTELPRO, men in black, the Hopkinsville goblins, the Flatwoods Monster, the recurring theme of weird connections between cryptozoology and espionage, and the alien abduction concept. We discuss certain salient aspects of the Betty and Barney Hill abduction, and the truly insane stories of several hypnosis experts.  At the end, we contemplate what's left of these stories and their possible utility as psychological operations.

Glad I subscribed! Great episode. Note that John Fuller also wrote The Day of St. Anthony's Fire about Pont-Saint-Esprit, the French village that spontaneously went insane. Fuller blamed it on accidental ergot poisoning, which officially remains the cause. Hank Albarelli believed this was an intentional government testing of psychedelics (see A Terrible Mistake). If Albarelli was right, Fuller was actively providing cover for the testing.

Example of Nazi in porn: Francis Parker Yockey's S&M book "Arduous Figure Training at Bondhaven." Publishers Samuel Roth, Fred Weiss, and Lyle Stuart (of varying ideological stripes) knew Harold Keith Thompson, one of Yockey's backers in the strange pro-Soviet, third-positionist far right. See Kevin Coogan's bio of Yockey Dreamer of the Day. Also, Keel was no nazi but he wrote "adult fiction" too as "Harry Gibbs," the Midwood-published book Three Women.
