Everyone watches FMJ, The Shining, Clockwork Orange, and 2001 then moves on. No one watches Barry Lyndon. I think it is a masterpiece. Do me a favor and watch it again sometime. It took me a couple viewings to really fall in love with it. You mentioned the candles lighting the scene. Kubrick kind of stole a NASA lens that let him film those scenes by candlelight alone. He made frames as paintings on purpose. My favorite one is Barry fishing in the boat with the dog and his boy, or when he's drunk slumped in the chair when Bullingdon challenges him. I'm glad you liked it. I hope the last one isn't too niche.

90% of the movie could be a painting. Yes it was definitely the lens used that gave it an antiquated look, I couldn’t tell what it was. I always rewatch movies, usually that following weekend with friends
