Appreciate your optimism. Despite nothing going well, it was still kinda close. I still have concerns with this team being able to create easy offense when teams switch and take away screening actions. I’m starting to get a little annoyed with JTA. He keeps passing up open shots and putting the offense in compromising positions. Draymond is too, and it looks like he’s gone back to non-aggressiveness and not being a threat to score.

Anonymous

shouldve gave JP more shots.. And im glad wiggins made it out alive

Anonymous

To be fair, draymond went against a great 7 fter who was eating everyone’s lunch. I really think jta played himself out of the rotation with this performance. I think this brought us down to earth a bit…I’m excited for when wiseman comes back. He will have the size to bail us out when we need to score

Rob00

Defense was great. Steph will adjust, plus he jus seemed zoned out like he sometimes does. I think we can live with Ayton getting his on offense as long as figure our own offense out.

Anonymous

Don't freak out, we lost the least important matchup with them that we will have this season. By the end of the season we will be both deeper and more talented with an even better defense and they only won because Steph had one of his rare poor shooting nights.

Dami I

how much of a difference would wiseman make against ayton defensively? I'm not sure we have an answer for ayton at all but it'll be interesting to see what adjustments the coaching staff makes. Plus, we really missed iggy and lee in this game we needed some poise down the stretch.

Anonymous

Both of Steph's airballs occurred with Javale on him lol

Anonymous

I think we need another Big. Who could we target? I dont like relying on Wiseman in Year 2

Paul Hanson

I agree: why not try Kuminga a bit more? The Dubs don't have anyone else really like him. I'm not saying he's a great isolation scorer yet but he's not afraid, has basketball IQ and knows where to be (unlike Wiseman so far) and has the kind of athleticism that can help out against Crowder, Ayton and the rest. I learned more about the Warriors against this team in a loss than I did in any of the 18 wins. No biggie-now you know what needs to be worked on because sure as shit the Phoenix Suns are expecting to go back to the Finals. Also-Stephen Curry hit one midrange shot and I don't think he attempted more than 1 or 2. He doesn't have to have that 'live by the 3, die by the 3' mentality when the team is up against superior defense. The famous Warriors playing style comes first out of team defense and movement-and that movement can't be rushed to a point where it looks uncomfortable-which is what they looked like yesterday.

Anonymous

I enjoyed this game. Reality hit when Alc said we sometimes forget Steph is human and he let something affect him this game. You now see how his energy and joy affects the team. This game we did not look like the joyous Dub nation. Some of the others were trying but when you see your leader like that you can't help but think. Look for Steph to come out different... With all that being said... We are tied for the best record in the league

Anonymous

we good, like you said, to lose like that with stephs worst game of all time and have so many players out of service, and wiggs playing mildly injured, the chef still owns CP3's lunch, lifetime supply, and when we whole, we beat them 10/10. Even DLee has some cluthness we missed. I am excited to see them in the playoffs and have the Splash Bros rain on their parade.

Anonymous

I'm actually happy we lost this game. Get it out of our system and keep improving. I'll say though that Steph was cold, but Kerr got outcoached. This is when I agree with KD on this whole one type of offense. There are sometimes where the traditional PnR can be very effective vs ball movement given CP3 is obsessed with the Warriors and probably knows everything we do at this point. Also, Steph should think about the midrange if the 3s ain't falling. But I think he would have clanked that as well yesterday. Didn't look like he treated this game with the amount of respect like the Brooklyn game.

Anonymous

Expected the loss & it being tight. Didn't expect Curry to be so poor, but we still gave it a good fight.

Natto Santo

JTA and NB seems to have lost their confidence in shooting that 3s. Meanwhile I am just amazed at OPJ, and how he carried the team. Green and Poole do not have that connection. I agree AI is a better passer than Green.

Anonymous

beli and jta need to shoot their 3s. and i dont think the suns were THAT impactful on steph's shot. i mean good lord he couldnt hit the rim. felt like he was poo-pooing for most of the night.

Russ

Can't stand CP3 list, sign me up. Watch CP on minute 4:48 when Wiggs drives to the hole and everyone knows it's a 2 foot plant and right hander in front of the rim. Watch CP slip his foot right where Wiggs is about to plant. Wiggs narrowly missed his foot but that would have cost him a month.. Don't think CP doesn't know what he's doing, he's been doing it for his entire career.

Anonymous

The merrygoround comment had me dead Alch! LMAO

Dami I

agreed. body language was terrible for steph but that's how he is in every loss when he struggles.

Anonymous

This one hurt my soul

Anonymous

Yep, I would have liked to see Kuminga.

Anonymous

who remembers when alc was vlogging a suns home game ayton's rookie season I think? Are you thinking about doing more suns home game vlogs?

Anonymous

Shouldn't Wigs just sit out this game? And I wonder if Draymond is chipped up as well after his fall the other day. But still great game. In a series they should be going back and forth.

Anonymous

Steph used a lot of energy and emotion on Sunday. Wonder how much that affected his game last night. We had been waiting for the let down game Poole’s patience has been impressive the past week. Obviously, he has been focusing on a slower pace and not jacking shots like the Pistons game. I think he’ll continue to find a better balance as the season moves on, maybe he figures it out before Harden. Haha. Get Otto in Bron Bron’s cryo chamber ASAP. Haha

Natto Santo

JTA need to work his own game than just hunting errors. And just let Curry defend CP3, he knows all his moves and tricks.

Anonymous

Ayton flexing a bit on Wiggs. Hope Wiggs will dunk on him the next game.

Anonymous

Yes, they probably should but they got ego/pride to avenge the loss. So I don't see that happening plus 2 days rest. Maybe Wiggins, but not Draymond, he will play

Anonymous

If Looney gives up midrange shots to every guard and forward, and he can't guard true centers, why do we have him out there?

Anonymous

That comment about CP dangling on a pony on a merry-go-round... omg I spit up my drink!!! LOL

Anonymous

This is where Kerr needs to earn his keep.

Daniel Fries

yo Alch - time to change your dog's name to GP2

Anonymous

Midranges are inefficient and Steph plays most true centers off the floor. He shouldn’t be starting, but Klay’s been out.

Bailey

was the Chiozza minutes Kerr's strategy of not showing their cards to the WCF opponent? not only Wiggins wasn't his 100% self, i was wondering how Draymond was feeling since he hurt his back the other day. the Suns are tough. i was fine with whatever outcome of this game. bc we're only 2 months into the season. i mean look at Bron. he dgaf bc it's December. Ayton - is there any way to wear him out and foul him out. i'm still shocked he's only 23. looks 40.

Anonymous

I think Kerr might be a great tactician, but not so great in-game coach. I think in-game coaches are a rare thing. I dont see Kerr reading the moment, the energy, the flow well. There is definitely something to be said for who is hot, what kind of energy is needed at the moment. Not just running the rotation. Kuminga should have been inserted for his physical and energetic prowessness , at least given a chance. Payton should have been in more. But games like this are expected. Lets see how the coaches adapt.

💯 💯💯 and the media wants to praise him all the time I can’t stand it- CP is a dirty player!

Jimmy Ji

He's probably hunting the 3 because he's about to pass Ray Allen for the 3-point record. Hopefully after he gets the record, he will evolve his offense.

Nathan Glanzer

BARELY lost with possibly Steph's worse game in 3 years. JTA and other role players uncharacteristically awful. And Wiggins who was clearly at 60% out there. I felt pretty good about it. More Poole experience.

Nathan Glanzer

Ayton still missed half his shots even with this defense. If nothing else he'll have to shoot OVER Wiseman and he's not that great of an offensive player. He misses a few bunnies and they will stop throwing it to him like every other NBA team.

Anonymous

Instead, Kerr comments, “just wait till Klay gets back!” I didn’t think it was cute…it just confirms that he’s been masking his coaching deficiencies with the talent that the Dubs have had. He’s come up w/ nice game plans beforehand, but his inability to make quality in-game adjustments is glaring!

Nathan Glanzer

Am I stupid? How was that a travel on JTA?

Jimmy Ji

I did not like the rotation that Kerr put out there tonight but there's a part of me that thinks he was doing it on purpose to create some adversity considering how easily we've been blowing teams out. Gotta give props to Monty for their defensive strategy, their length/athleticism and ability to recover on defense made the court appear smaller than what the Warriors were used to. It felt like they were able to get a hand on every pass because their game plan to help off the non-shooters was so precise. CP3 also made some terrific passes to Ayton down low. He would float the ball over our defenders head to where Ayton could reach up, grab it and put in the basket all with one motion. If Kerr couldn't find minutes for Moody or Kuminga when we are down 4 rotation players, then when are we ever going find minutes once Klay and Wiseman return?

Anonymous

Thanks for the Vid Alc. I think Wiggins is the X-Factor for their win against the suns. Ayton struggles against strong wings that finish in the lane (see, last seasons win against the suns). Wiggins can get mid-range shots and layups over Ayton when he is healthy. This could also have been Kuminga's game too. Kuminga, also, I think, would have done a good job on Ayton. Make Ayton tired with the constant bumping and energy down in the paint.

Nathan Glanzer

Why don't they go to Kuminga more? He's one of maybe 4 people on the team that can take someone off the dribble. He's going to be getting 3rd / 4th defenders on him most of the time.

Jerry Heverly

At just about every position the Suns are bigger, taller, broader. The Warrior players seemed intimidated., even Draymond. I'm guessing you have faced this kind of thing in your coaching career. What do you do to counteract their size?

John Z

Is Kerr just not able to be spontaneous on in-game situations? He's trusting the system when it's getting blown up in his face. Idk, maybe that's the strat to learn how match ups will go. Tough loss, great breakdown as always.

Major Powers

The bottom line is we played like shit and had a million turnovers and still somehow kept it a game until the very end, even had a couple nice leads. If this was a measuring stick game - and it was - we're obviously a top team in the league, it's no mirage.

Kahlil Baker

I think it was a good L. Warriors or Steph played like shit and you only lose by 8. You have film and you can learn from this game.

Anonymous

i was questioning why Chiozza got so many minutes but he’s super smart and played good a lot of the things he does don’t show up on the stat sheet. I’ve been hoping otto can be in our closing small ball lineup but 1. he might be die before the post season and 2. if poole or wiggins are playing well enough i don’t see who he takes out once klay is back

AK

this one was hard to watch... would expect them to bury these fuckers (looking at you cp3) on Saturday

Anonymous

I think Alc talked about it in previous pods or breakdowns but you keep it simple. The motion offense with Steph off ball while aesthetically pretty can easily be exploited due to the athleticism of the Suns to compensate. Run the offense through Poole to match the athleticism or have Steph operate things on ball a little more to add pressure with sheer talent to fall back on. Use their athleticism to your advantage and make them work for every defensive possession so that it sacrifices their offense and you can with by war of attrition

Kevin Morris

Curry was making so many mistakes in the 4th quarter, I thought Kerr should have taken him out the rest of the game. He had a negative +/- according to Fitz. It's been a very long time since I've seen Curry play that badly. In training, he uses data science and digital equipment to give him immediate feedback on how close his 3 pointers are from true center of the rim (source:https://www.wsj.com/articles/stephen-curry-warriors-shooting-11637027582). But several times last night he couldn't hit the rim with butt naked 3 point attempts. It was almost like he had an inner ear infection, or wasn't seeing straight. His confidence was shot, he didn't pass well and made several uncharacteristically bad decisions. He also looked a half step slow and fatigued. Like he didn't get a good night's sleep. This game became a trap game, the minute Book went out. Here's why: if the Warriors lose without Book then the narrative is they don't stand a chance with him. If they win a slim victory then it's only because Book is out. The only way to exit with honor is to blow out the Sun's in the 2nd half. (This thinking assumes Klay doesn't return as the same caliber player, or gets quickly injured again and Wiseman doesn't live up to expectations.) On the flip side the Suns had a game plan that they seemed to execute to perfection. And they proved the value of an agile big that can shoot, guard the 3 point line and the paint and effectively switch. Ayton definitely deserves the full bag. It will be very interesting to see what adjustments the Warriors coaching staff makes to neutralize him. I agree Alch, trying to make Ayton tired is a great strategy. One upside, if Klay was at all thinking, "Man I wonder if this team even needs me?" There is no longer any question.

Anonymous

Steph and Draymond played selfishly yesterday, Steph was hearing voices in his head when he forced himself back into the game in the 4th. Just look at how hesitant and unwilling he was when he passed to poole for that three that rolls out. Poole and Otto were on fire and they barely touched the ball in crunch time, Draymond could only see Steph and Steph saw nothing, they need to have more game plans for crunch time beside Steph-Draymond show

Andreas Wiedemann

Thx for the breakdown! If wiggs looks like that they should rest him. Throw kuminga into the water and see how it goes. I rather lose a game like that than trying the same stuff over again and learn nothing. BTW: PHX streak ends vs Pistons tonight..i hope not, to bad they have a game in between.

Anonymous

lmao, I hope Otto is alive. That shit had me dead

Anonymous

regarding Kuminga, are they over adjusting from last year’s Wiseman case? From too many minutes to no minutes, even when it’s obviously a Kuminga type game

Anonymous

When it comes to Rookie minutes I'd imagine that the expectations for the team are significantly higher this season that last with Klays return. The hot start has only boosted that feeling I would assume. I can imagine Kerr has a lot more leeway to dictate minutes and playing time and hence he will stick with Vets over rookies when they are trying to push for wins. That being said I get as salty as anyone when Kerr doesn't at least experiment when the shit that is on the floor clearly isn't working. I'm not sure that Kuminga would have been the answer in this game but you don't know if you don't at least try something.

Anonymous

I'm not so worried about the suns, I think we can beat them in a 7 game series of fully healthy. The bucks however is different matchup, with their size and how dynamic giannis is, it will be difficult to beat them. Btw, kuminga should've played in the Phoenix game, he gives us a different dimension that Looney and belly don't, finishing at the rim.

Anonymous

dray gonna get his balls back and so will Kerr and not play so tight and let the young 00 King touch the floor

Anonymous

id love to seem the rest wiggs and give kuminga the start

Kevin Morris

I just noticed the Suns are playing the Pistons tonight and CBS Sports reported that Booker will be out for a few games. This adds to the pressure for us. If we lose to the Suns when they are on the back end of a back to back without Book--that would be an ugly narrative.
