I'm already at peace with getting Wiggins, and I'm excited to see him play with Steph and Klay, but we still got fleeced, why? Wiggins had absolutely NO VALUE, regardless of Dlo's worth, Wiggins was seen as garbage by the fans, media and teams. The dude was literally known for being inconsistent, lazy, a bad defender, a dissapointment, a "bust", and having no motor and a toxic contract, he was a negative asset. Dlo is younger, was an "all star" last year (bc of injury) and led THE NETS to the playoffs. + Minnesota was desperate to get him AND to get rid of Wiggins. There's no way we should've gotten just a 1st pick and 2nd, specially when we gave the Spellman too. An injured "playoff P" after shoulders surgeries got the thunder SGA, Gallinari and 5 picks, our trade's return (in terms of picks and extra assets) was straight up garbage.

DLo isn't exactly high value on the market either, he was maxed out of necessity when we did the KD trade. Wiggins is literally 1 year older, on an almost equally bad contract, and your defense comparison will prove to be laughable. You also can't compare this with playoff P trade. Dude was on a max contract and OKC had big leverage because Clippers needed PG immediately to bring Kawhi over, hence all those picks. Wiggins fit our needs. This is the same team that made McGee look good. Chriss was ridiculed all year until he quickly proved to be a valuable asset because he was developed by our system. Guys like Draymond would have been considered a bust on other teams too, because he wouldn't have gotten the playmaking opportunities from other teams, let alone from Mark Jackson.

As I said I'm not talking about Dlo's value, but Wiggins' negative value prior to the trade. I agree that he was the best possible trade at the moment, that he fits well, and I'm excited to see him play with our healthy squad. But we didn't get a fair return for the context of his image and value.

I'm not bashing Wiggins, he actually played great defense against the Lakers and I'm very optimistic about him proving everyone (including me) wrong. I just think we deserved more assets, again, not because of Dlo, but for taking Wiggins' contract and betting on him. As well as the context in which the wolves wanted Dlo and wanted to get rid of Wiggins.

You don’t have to regurgitate the mainstream narrative. Just remember “ beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

One thing you guys didn't bring up (in the first 10 minutes anyway) that Myers and Kerr did, is they actually wanted the new roster to have 30 games playing together this season so they have a head start out of the gate next season. If they are trying to win titles the next two years, that's not worth nothing.

athleticalchemy

I like that! So Steph really is coming back. I think a lot of franchises would hold their guy out in this scenario... 💡 🗓

athleticalchemy

That’s fair... might it be a little telling that the warriors, in a position of perceived power...wanted to get him out now 🧐

Major Powers

Right, and is a reason to do the trade now and not wait till the offseason hoping for an uptick in asset return. I'm sorta with you though that D'lo might not be as valuable as we were making him out to be... I mean that was some trash D he was playing. That's not gonna fly with Steph and Klay back in and presumably Klay at the 3? Wiggins yawning and looking the other way plays better D than D'lo.

Exactly DLo is too much of a liability on defensive end. The thing is he takes away Draymond's contribution as well, who absolutely needs the ball in half court to do anything useful other than maybe setting screens. Wiggins has shown he can move off ball like DLo has learned this season, probably because he was instructed to do so and it has looked really good.

This pod had some serious content, Alch. Getting two hoopers going strong = value. BTW - I personally dont give a FF about the rockets (unless it's vs. LAL).

I remember vividly the live stream where every one in the chat kept saying it and you were denying the fact we traded for DLo. Uncle alch was right all along

High key I’m glad we didn’t do the Simmons deal. Prolly would’ve got rid of EP and some other young guy with DLO. More importantly if we got Simmons dray would have to go. Dray is so important to this culture and I think he just gonna be schoolin the young boys up to chip material. Also, the clips got all these slimey dudes now! Morris as slimey as kawhi and pg

athleticalchemy

It would have put us in a predicament with Dray for sure. I am curious to see the Clip in a late game situation come playoff time. You assume it’s Kawhi time...

Another great pod guys. Good to have you on board Stevie!

Yo Alch being from Israel I thought I should tell you a bit about Denny Avdija: he's the best prospect out of Israel already (only other NBA player from here was Omri Casspi who played with the Warriors funnily enough). The guy is like a legit 6"10 if I'm not mistaken and is very skilled for his size. He's shot is pure and he can handle the ball well. He's been breaking all kinds of records and took our Junior team to a European championship and upset the Spanish I believe. He's got that dog mentality, he's a very hard worker and is very disciplined for a kid his age, his father was a pro basketball player somewhere in Europe if I'm not mistaken. I haven't followed the draft much this year but Denny is a sleeper and will probably be underrated because he's an international draft pick. Hoping we pick him.

Awesome Pod! Loved the back and forth in the beginning. I've listened to so many analyst and podcast and no one has as inform and legitimately insightful commentary on the subject besides you guys! That's why I support and keep coming back! 2020 first 20 games will be very telling.

big fan of Stevie! knows his NBA shit, bounces off you well, and no offense but he's also refreshingly free of self-help psycho-analytics!

Please don't *completely* ignore the stinkers - the Wiggins / Poole progress report is important.

i think its safe to say wiggins is a better/driver finisher towards the hoop than "gsw" Kd was.
