I didn't even watch the last 3 games smh I'm still not giving up on poole

Anonymous

These last two games have really challenged my commitment as a dubs fan... Can we just simulate to march please? Steph, get well soon! We need to win next game for morale's sake. The last two outings were downright terrible and the tank commander barely got any run.

athleticalchemy

They have been rough. Kerr and Dray have too much pride. They will reset and show more pride and fight.

Ezra Abbey

bowman's my guy. favorite warrior right now

Major Powers

Yeah along with Paschall, these two guys have been absolute steals and are going to fill out and compliment our roster nicely with a fully healthy squad.

Jansen E

Im glad you brought that up about Burks. Ive had a similar feeling. The last 5 games or so, I find myself rolling my eyes nearly everytime he has the ball. When he creates for others, its fine. But him launching that flat 3s and suddenly blowing layups left and right, Im kind of sick of his play style. GR3 and WCS both bother me with their inconsistency and random efforts and brain farts, but at the very least, they provide athleticism, decent defense, and occasional sparks. But Burks just....kills the offense. Doesnt really play defense, and if he isnt making layups, he's essentially useless. I didnt understand why he got so many more minutes over Spellman either. This game officially confirmed any holdouts on my belief they were tanking. They DEFINITELY are tanking now. Why? Cuz this game was totally winnable. A simple google search couldve told you that Charlotte shoots 3s and does nothing else, and the Warriors came in gapping, going under screens, and leaving guys wide open as if they were shocked. We were outscored by 36 pts from the 3pt line.......and we only lost by 15 pts. That shouldnt happen if youre Charlotte. They shouldve blown us out by 25+ shooting that well. But the minute restriction on DLo kept the scoring down. And look at the off. rebound numbers at the end!!!! If Spellman gets even 10 more minutes, we probably get at least 10 more second chance points, putting us in position to win. Please cut Burks minutes. But I also agree with you, the mindset of tanking may be setting in now. Im hoping it doesnt affect them long term. We dont want guys like Paschall, Chriss, Bowman, Spellman to get used to giving that 110% effort and always losing. I hope theyre mentally tough enough to understand that this is temporary and eventually, those high motors and effort WILL pay off. Final thought. Jordan Poole man.........I dont really know what to say. Monday will officially be the 25th game of the season. That was the threshold we gave him. And he's had like.....2 games that he was actually good in? Maybe having DLo back might help like you said but. Idk man. He's falling out of the rotation wayyyyy faster than expected. Im still hoping the best for him but man. Not looking good for him

Tough game to watch. Weird seeing Dray not locked in on the defensive end. You can tell there are stages in the game where he looks like he's on another planet. He aint wanna play with these cats lol...

Warrior fans let him go. In the off season, the Warriors made a lot of sensible decisions. They struck gold in EP, they found silver in Ky Bowman. The contacts for WCS, Burks, Robinson all give them flexibility as a player or asset for trade. Their "flyers" on Chriss and Spellman gave them two project players that have already rewarded the team and shown promise of something even better in the future. To my knowledge everyone that they added have bought into the system and conducted themselves as a good citizen of the team. The future is bright if they have collective health in the future. In the drafting of JP the Warriors got gum on their shoe, a player they thought could be a very good shooter at a position they needed help at and what they got was a massive project player that after 20 plus games and generous playing time in both options (starter, reserve) is arguably the worst rookie in the NBA this year. The stats tell us this is true: http://insider.espn.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/rookies Jordan is 35th in efficiency rating of the 36 qualifying rookies, but it's not just a numbers test. For me, it's hard to be behind a player with such poor fundamentals. It's hard for a player to pass the eye test when they regularly play on ball defense in such a poor stance, JP doesn't bend his knees, doesn't assume athletic defensive stance, he doesn't spread out, he can't "turn the ball handler" and off ball he is even worse, he follows, he doesn't bump, and he's a ball watcher. The thing is, Ky Bowman does all those things right on defense and is an in your face comparison. The poor fundamentals are present in his offensive game as well. In the beginning of the year, JP's was more than willing to shoot but with his lack of success, he's begun to ball fake and try to drive and dish more, but here again, he has lacking fundamentals. An ideal ball (shot) fake has multiple elements to it, JJ Redick is a great example of good fundamentals (but you could also just compare him to his own teammate Pascale to see proper fundamentals of ball faking). Specifically, when you ball fake a shot, as the ball comes up, your lower body and knees have to bend (this puts you in position to both rise up and shoot a jumper or to put the ball down and drive) but JP does not bend his lower body and furthermore doesn't appear to even have been coached to do this. The ball needs to come up to your natural shot pocket but if you do not shoot and drive instead, the ball needs to come back down in a circular or "rip thru" motion ( different coaches use different terms) but the idea is to create a circular motion with the ball as you bring it down creating in a sense a second fake of a drive to the opposite side you intend to go ( get the defender leaning the wrong way). Rick Patino actually did an excellent instructional video back in the day on this method with Billy Donovan as the demonstration player. This is technique that is not that hard to learn and is taught at high school level. Poole's shot fake is an unconvincing up and down movement of the ball and then often he make a cardinal error after, by driving with a lateral first step when a drive off a ball fake always, always requires you to step as close to a defenders hip and as far by a defenders hip as possible. In the NBA, all players are now coached to fly by the shooters hand and when a defensive player has chosen to fly by, then, and only then can a player use a lateral dribble to create more space for a shot....JP seems to show confusion about these two actions off a ball fake. As the old axiom goes you can't teach height, tall project players Damion Jones (?) maybe, small project players, like gum on my shoe, I have no patience for it. Apologies for my ranting or if I've stepped on anyone's favorite player toes. 12 minutes last night and his impact on the game besides the missed breakaway....1 assist...Let it go.

Thanks for this alc! Great vid! Did you notice Paschall’s shot in the second quarter? His shooting pocket was way out on the left like KD has it. I wonder if he is trying to develop a shot that can’t be ripped. Also, I think Chriss shouldn’t gap guards on the triple threat above the three point line. He seems to get cooked all the time from three. He is athletic enough to recover. What do you think?

Anonymous

I think Burks is one of the most likely players to be traded with a friendly contract and the type of low maintenance insurance vet player a top team might want. I think until the trade deadline passes the Warriors will continue to play him minutes.

Jansen E

I agree with most of what you said, and yeah his ball fakes leave a lot to be desired. But its way too early to give up on him. The dude is 20 years old and was drafted into a franchise with the highest expectations of their young guys. Theres a whole host of things that play into him not performing well. I watched him at Michigan and the dude was pretty good. He definitely has the talent and potential, no matter how rough. I will take a struggling Poole 100000x over having McKinnie again. That dude made my eyeballs bleed when watching him. 25 games into a rookie's career, and youre calling to throw him away already? Thats a little harsh. If by the end of this entire season, he has not shown a single ounce of progression, then youd have a bigger argument. But even then, I would rather send him down to the G-league for next season. Let him regain his confidence and rework his fundamentals out of the spotlight. The last thing Id want is for the Warriors to give up on him, let him go for nothing (essentially wasting another draft pick), and for some bum team to swoop him and turn him into a 19ppg scorer. Have a little more faith man!! I agree with you its frustrating to watch. But I bet you its exponentially for frustrating for Poole himself because he knows hes better than this.

Maybe Kerr is giving wcs heavy minutes so he can pad stats for the time we trade his ass? Don't know if that's logical.

athleticalchemy

thanks! I noticed on one but I thought it was maybe because he didn't catch it clean. That would be a bold thing to try. I agree, Chriss should have more confidence in his foot speed. Wonder if he is being coached to gap. In PHX he was over aggressive and would rack up fouls at a crazy rate. Its really situational right, who else is on the floor, has the guy already made a few?

athleticalchemy

No that definitely could be part of it..He gets benched on this team and he has no value. After the deadline we might see less and less of him.

athleticalchemy

lol this is what confirmed it! You must be a much more optimistic person than I! Nah but they must keep on establishing good habits and lose with honor. Send JP down and call up Smiley!

Jansen E

just watched his recent highlights. He's looking nice!!

athleticalchemy

Obviously he has been terrible. I will keep a closer eye on your points, On ball he seems to slide pretty well to my eyes. The pump fakes seem to get guys in the air, he just doesn't use it properly, which I was chalking up more to playing too fast. But maybe it is more about being up right and locked out.

It's not my intent to try to convince any fan that likes JP to abandon rooting for his success, you might be exactly correct that if the Warriors are willing to wait, if JP is coachable, if JP goes down to Santa Cruz to get enough minutes to restore his confidence, he might have a turnaround, it's possible. But i am curious, with Evans returning would you be willing to have the Warriors lose Bowman or Chriss to have Poole keep his roster spot? Bowman has established he can play at the NBA level and Chriss has as well. Protecting JP from he current shortcomings shouldn't come at the expense of other teammates...in my opinion. BTW, there's no chance the Warriors give up on Poole as Damion Jones proves so don't despair at my harsh assessment of JP's play.

creuset

other teams always have their record setting 3s against us. last year--it was a strategy? this year, a different sort of strategy. but i'm thinking it must be something the staff instructs the players.

Alch, he's historically terrible, but as i've posted before it's mostly the result of him being put in a bad position of playing minutes he shouldn't be playing when he's not ready. To your second point, he's probably always been able to play at breakneck speed everywhere he's played and had success with that, but cuts, pump fakes, coming off screens and generally many basketball moves require timing and thus playing at a more controlled pace with a speed burst at the right time and JP is a 1 speed player playing way to fast to fast to even read what the defender is doing and that never works. And D-Lo can seemingly play in slow motion at times and make it work for him (ha,ha). We are past 20 games tho....

Yoooo Alc... I wanted to pick ya brain on an unrelated topic still basketball thou, here it goes... Are the Rockets serious with this protest and wanting to play the last 7:50 against the Spurs after blowing a lead and having 2 overtimes to closeout a sub 500 team?? They're entitled cry babies and Harden is a reflection of this when each yr he cries if he doesn't win regular season mvp lol... Do you think there's ANY chance of this actually happening??

Freddie D

Alch you should consider putting a stat sheet graphic at the end of the videos to show top performers.

Anonymous

You'd want to lose to bad teams but win a few against good ones. Unfortunately the Dubs can't really choose right now. Maybe they should just circle a few games on the calendar and plan extra carefully. Swing all the others

Anonymous

I agree JP is the worst defender on the Warriors right now. He's lucky teams haven't started going at him every play down yet. He constantly out of position and get's blown by every time his man has the ball. Yes I agree it is historically bad!!

Watched the Heat vs Celtics game A very possible Post-Season matchup Even with the Heat draining over 20 threes and no Marcus Smart in the lineup they just don't look they match up talent wise. I see a possible trade if Pat is willing to part with one of his new toys in Nunn or Tyler Herro. Draymond + Burks for Herro + Dragic + and a pick (not sure what they are able to with the rules, they have their 1st rounder this draft but dont know if they can trade it) Since both there bigs are shooting the lights out from behind the arc, I think Dray would be a perfect fit to their team and give them some Championship DNA. Burks being 6 man replacing Herro's production. We can assume that Butler's best chance at a title would be this year, as he's not getting any younger. We get flexibility for depth with the expiring deal, along with another cheap solid player (and possibly huge trade asset.)

Assuming DLO gets moved I would be interested to see a 1. Bowman 2. Curry 3. Thompson lineup experimented with. Maybe a part of a new death lineup.

Anonymous

He just needs to be sent down to Santa Cruz and be reaccessed. With his skill set he should be able to find his stroke and work on his lack of fundamentals. If while he is there he doesn't stand out as one of the best players in the G league by the end of the year, then we just have to cut him and the take the loss.

Anonymous

Hopefully the Warrior games are so ugly to watch for the rest of the league that some of his stats will find him a new home.

Anonymous

Doesn't matter if they're serious. I don't think they're gonna get sh*t from the league here. Blown calls are a thing. This was bad, yes, but hey, let's give them 2...and then cut 4 for the OOB catch by Harden that resulted in 2, and the backcourt violation that resulted in 2 by Harden. Easy! :) Nah, seriously, though. Harden ain't LeBron and this ain't the Finals. His whining won't get them a damn thing.

Anonymous

I would love to see them play that last 7:50 and ironically lose by two again😂😂😂

Thomas Ogas

Poole more than passed the eye test in Summer League and the pre-season, when he was playing against other developing players. He's 20 years old. The original plan was to develop him (and Smiley) slowly in the G-League while Curry, D'Lo, Burks, and Evans played regular season ball (and we also signed two guards: Bowman and Lee in case of injury). Poole was drafted for the future, not for this season. Injuries changed all that and they decided to use the NBA season as development. Poole wasn't ready and he isn't ready, but so what? Giving up is stupid. Looney looked terrible until year 3. Evans looked aweful last season but much improved in the pre-season. Absolutely no harm in being patient in a season that's nothing but a developmental exercise.

Anonymous

I'm speaking only for me and what I've observed with both the eye test and the statistical measure of his performance in regular season games. It's okay to not give up and root for him and believe that he'll be a good player at some point, patience can be a good thing with young players and is sometimes is rewarded. I'm not trying label him or anyone who is a fan of his play. I'm not trolling anyone about his play. Most of my criticism is directed at his lack of fundamentals which make him a gigantic project player. The Warriors are continuing to do Poole a disservice in the way they are playing him. At some point soon, the minutes they give Poole without improvement are going to subtract from the minutes of other players who have earned the opportunity to play more than Jordan.

*at 4:28 it's Miles not Mikal Bridges. Great video though!
