Branden Edwards

This was honestly expected. No team with 8 new players, 5 of which playing important minutes is going to come out of the gate playing well. Especially when they are so young. Glen Rob defended Kawhi as anyone could

If we didn't have 3 injured centers/forwards, the game wouldn't have looked so lopsided

Man that lower bowl crowd couldn't even get one Warriors chant going early. SF is pathetic.

I saw some decent stuff in the first half! I can’t think too much into it since it was the first game. I didn’t expect Loons to play especially after not playing in the preseason. I look forward to seeing how our team adjusts and how our coaching staff works to put our players in the best position to succeed. Regardless I’m excited.

Matt Hanna

I think this Klay injury is just salt on the already new, young and dysfunctional squad. Got a lot to improve but I like Evans and Paschall, i think they have a real shot to be good role players on the team. I think Poole will develop and he has a pure shot. Back to my original point, no klay for most teams is like losing your second best player so its a big gap. Looking forward to seeing how the season plays out

lololol pat bev plays a mean set a buckets in the subway lololol

Looney looked pretty good in his time on the floor. I hope that hamstring isn't serious. I think WCS will solve a few of our size problems but our defense is honestly horrid.

Haha, I got the Beverley-at-gas-stations reference, that was perfectly executed. 🔥

Thomas Ogas

When Kerr was hired he installed an offensive system that was entirely different from how things were done when Mark Jackson was the coach. That change, more than anything, is what turned a good team into a historic one. But my fear right now is that the system Kerr implemented really only worked because of the veteran players he had to run it. And it was a system that NBA defenses were not used to. Right now, I don't know if the current new crop can be coached up enough to run the system effectively. I also don't know if the system has been "figured out" by opposing defenses. One thing from last night is that we did get off a lot more shots than the Clippers. We just missed them. I feel like we had a lot of open looks, too. So maybe it's too early to disparage the offense (although the defense was clearly very bad.)

Bro what the hell is wrong with the crowd? Smh this definitely ain't Oracle. I absolutely hate that third quarter crowd emptiness. Ridiculous.

Poole was awful. Evans should play More minutes (22 to Poole's 21). My only real concern is that without Looney and WCS we are only going to win shootout games where both Steph and Dlo play brilliantly. And when Looney & WCS are back then Steve is going to have to show that yes he can coach and run sets based on what can be successful with the personnel he has now. And, Poole was awful.

athleticalchemy

Well said. ..And all their others hit every 3 they put up. I think the system has to change. It’s not so much figuring it out.. its so familiar to everyone at this point. Everyone is comfortable guarding it.

athleticalchemy

WCS can and should be a beast with steph and Dlo. Poole was amped in his first NBA game on national tv.. he will be fine. My biggest concern is Draymond, both mentally and physically.

I don't trust the warriors training staff we need to clean house and while we're at it we need to poach some of the Spurs' development staff I don't believe in the guys we got now...Also I wanted to get your opinion on this: https://twitter.com/samesfandiari/status/1187733124060286981?s=19

haha "plays a mean set of buckets in the subway" I like what i saw out of the young dudes....looks like we need our bigs and 20 or so games to develope a new flow

Anonymous

Here for the comments! But I honestly expected this in our first game. Actually I expect this in the first 20 games or so of this season. They'll be fine. Steph and DLo are literally stars, not to mention there's Dray. If Bradley Beal can pull off some wins for his team, Steph and DLo can do it twice as much.

Curry running around like a chicken again while being harrassed by Beverly and Shamet is not good for his longevity or team performance. I feel the team has not utilized his gravity well enough, we need more plays where Curry runs off ball and sets another screen for our rookie shooters. Or let him bring up the ball and set up a Draymond PnR. The offense was too predictable. We saw in the finals Curry absolutely can draw fouls but he needs to be aggressive and actually handle the ball. This is the issue with Draymond though, in half court he's just not a good offensive player so he needs to handle the passing, which are too obvious. In other words, the gameplay needs to revolve more around Curry's spacing AND he needs to dominate the ball more. He doesn't want to play like Kobe but he needs to. The defensive issues are more obvious and we can't really fix it when our roster is this crippled at the center and power forward spot.

Not sure about DLO or Curry but you're right on about Draymond's body language. He gave up way too easily. Sometimes overhelped instead of trusting the guys to play 1 vs 1. It's like he is desperate to contribute sometimes knowing his offense is lackluster but it doesn't help the issue. Feels like he gained a bit of weight back as well, not seeing enough transition aggression.

We just need to relax, it's a retool year, enjoy watching Evans, Eric and Jordan grow. Hopefully get surprised by Glenn, Marquese and Willie. Load up for next year. Making playoffs will be a win this year.

Here's a win: we made 29 out of 30 of our free throws! That will win us some close games throughout the season.

Everyone's sleeping on our secret weapon Smailagic.

Curry better get mad, dude gets mauled on offense and dont do shit about it. Complain, fight back, I dont know. Also yeah about Kerr's system, even Pop would adjust with new players, is my main issue with Kerr's system, its his and not the team's system.

Jansen E

Well.....whats new? Lets see.... - PatBev being the annoying little shit he is. Obviously one of those guys where you love him on your team and hate him on the other. But man sometimes that belief gets challenged a lot cuz so many times he draws these offensive "fouls" that are the cheapest shit Ive ever seen. - Lou Will getting buckets but also being an annoying shit with the James Harden-esque style of play. I would love to see PatBev and Lou Will matchup. Who would draw the most fouls between the two? Who knows. Both would flop and bitch at the ref either way. - Harrell and every other big dominating the tiny Warriors. - Curry being mauled and getting no favorable calls even on his home court. - Draymond not being able to hit the side of a barn. But he got chipped up so he gets a minor pass. I could go on and on but I'll relax. All those things I more or less expected. Best part of this game was Jacob Evans finding his stroke beyond the arc. That was really encouraging to see. And I could tell Poole was a little nervous with his first game jitters. With a little more confidence and minutes, he will probably be getting 20pts rather easily sooner or later. Pascall had decent minutes. Not good.....but decent. DLo sparked the team in the beginning. Was nice to see but it was way too inconsistent. Long story short. I knew this was gonna be a blowout. No way the Warriors bench was gonna compete with the Clippers bench. And Kawhi is just too damn good. Robinson was playing high effort defense, but nothing really he could do I suppose. The lack of chemistry and communication throughout the whole team was painfully obvious. The team defense was just awful. But all this stuff is expected. For the record, I was surprised the Warriors got within 4 at one point. That was their biggest accomplishment. Im not too worried about the Warriors when they play the big contending teams. I dont expect them to win those games or even be that competitive. Im more concerned about when they play mid-tier teams. If they continue to have performances like this against teams like the Pacers/Hawks/Wolves and even the Thunder (I guess), then we have reason to be concern. But as of right now, I think the Warriors put up a decent enough performance for what we have on the floor. It got away from them towards the end of the 3rd quarter. But with the lack of offensive production, we really couldnt expect them to keep up. That being said. I give their performance about a C-. Mostly due to the terrible defense. But watching DLo go off for a little bit was fun. And considering we are still missing huge pieces of our front court, we cant really compete with guys like Zubac and Harrell. BUT I SAW LOONEY HIT THAT THREE. My mind was blown. That was awesome hahaha. Glad to have you back Alch!

Man I knew we was gonna lose but damn! Curry with his lack of effort shit again. That so irritating. To not even care to show up in the new arena is like mannnn. But anyway, The team still has alot of promise! The Beverly buckets joke 💀💀💀💀 you wyling 😂 Poole will shoot better and things will come along. Evans thoooo looks like we got oneee!

Excited to have the NBA back and my Alchemy breakdowns even if we aren't as spoiled with talent this year. Alch, is anyone doing decent breakdowns of Niner games? I've been following a few people on YouTube but the quality is a bit mediocre.

I’m excited to see this season what narrative Steph will build up for his legacy now that Klay will be gone most likely for the entire regular season. There’s no excuse for him to NOT have an MVP season. The narrative may very well be that he “needs” Klay to be Stephen Curry!

Anonymous

I always thought Curry's lack of effort on the surface is some hidden beef with Kerr, their style actually conflicts each other a lot, it was not a surprise that Curry always plays his best (individual) basketball when he was coached by someone else.

Anonymous

love the narratives going on after the first game. this season is gonna be fire on many accounts! i think the pride will kick in mid season if theyre (curry, green, not sure about dlo) feeling threatened about not getting a spot, but perspectives change through the season, its fucking long

athleticalchemy

Nah Im not gonna give him that one! No doubt he helps but you could argue DLO commands more attention than Klay..He drew Beverley the other night.

athleticalchemy

Watching some of these other games..everybody outside of the Clippers looks pretty rough right now.

athleticalchemy

I have hope that WCS could really breakout.. But your right, the clippers are not who we should be measuring ourselves against at this point.

athleticalchemy

For sure there is some passive aggressive stuff with Steph...How could there not be! With his all good attitude.

Anonymous

Hopefully this might force Kerr to adapt his offense for the 1st time in 5 years. That said, Steph should have known this from the jump.

Bailey

Put ourselves in Steph and Dray's shoes. They are the only veteran core players left. Klay's out for the year. Let's keep it real. So Lacob and Myers just want them to keep the fuckin wheels turning until next season? What is the coaching staff doing with the rookies and other guys? Help Steph. Help Dray. These guys have sacrificed so much for the team. Have a fuckin heart.

Marcus Thompson II wrote an excellent piece in The Athletic contextualizing what the opening must have meant for Steph, Dray etc. The intrigue is here in spades for those who appreciate it this season. Onward. Btw it was particularly satisfying to watch the Suns stun the Clips last night, the league is wide open this season.
