I'd also recommend watching the theatrical version of "Superman II", despite its flaws, as that was what we all experienced. You can always watch the Donner cut offline if you want a better idea of Donner's vision before he was kicked off the movie, but be warned that it's not a finished movie. It uses only around 20% of the original theatrical release's footage and was rebuilt using Donner footage that was cut after he was removed from the project, and since he wasn't able to do reshoots, they had to use incomplete footage, include test shots, as well as recycling the first movie's ending. It is a significantly different beast.
